Local History Kept Alive They have raised great amount of interest on social media as well reaching new generations, interested in the history of Chase. One of the comments reads “So cool to have someone with that knowledge”.

David Lepsoe has organized historic tours since 2004. The first tour was a candle light tour at Chase Country Christmas. Love for history and the community has inspired him to pass this knowledge to locals and tourists who want to know more about the past of this beautiful village.

As adults age, many notice changes in memory and thinking abilities. At first these changes may be so subtle that they are easy to explain away as normal ageing - and they may be just that. However, it’s also possible that these changes are the earliest symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).

AD is the most common form of a medical condition called dementia, which affects thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday tasks.

In the early stages, people with AD may notice everyday tasks becoming more difficult to perform than before. Some typical early symptoms of AD include: facing increased problems with memory; struggling to find the right words for things; becoming confused about time or place; having trouble managing money or paying bills; experiencing c h a n g e s in mood, personality or judgement; misplacing or being unable to find things.

The symptoms of AD arise because of slow ongoing injury to different parts of the brain.

This injury, which affects nerve cells, is believed to be the result of two different processes that occur in the brains of people with AD. One process involves

a protein called amyloid beta. The other also involves a protein, named tau.

AD is a disease that progresses over time, leading to worsening symptoms and could ultimately cause death. However, studies suggest that early diagnosis and intervention could potentially slow the course of the disease and may help protect the brain from further injury.

Furthermore, early diagnosis allows you to consider participating in a clinical study investigating new potential treatments.

The good news is, there are tools available that might help doctors to diagnose AD in its early stages, including various lab tests, written tests and interviews. To confirm whether you have AD your doctor may order an imaging study known as PET CT, which can spot amyloid beta plaques inside the brain.

Your doctor may also request a procedure to test a sample of your spinal fluid for abnormal levels of amyloid beta and tau.

Currently the only approved therapies for AD help address some of its more advanced symptoms. However there are ongoing efforts to develop treatment that – if approved – may delay, stop or prevent the progression of AD. In addition, studies suggest that a lifestyle that includes a healthy diet, regular exercise, social interaction and cognitive stimulation may be helpful.

For decades a large and growing community of healthcare providers, research scientists, universities, patient advocacy organizations and pharmaceutical companies has been committed to battling the disease. Each year their efforts yield promising new discoveries. Over 500 clinical studies, with many thousands of participants across the globe, including patients in the Shuswap, Thompson, Okanagan and Lower Mainland, are helping to advance our understanding of AD and potential treatments for this disease.

Fire Fighters Making a Difference one Muscle at a Time …Muscular Dystrophy Canada In order to take part of the 2018 Firefighter Game in Robson BC - September 7th and 8th, Chase Firefighters are fundraising to go to this event. International Firefighter Games Inc. (IFG), is an organization designed to help facilitate the construction of, and assist in the operation of the Firefighter Games. The Firefighter Games is a two day competition in which volunteer and career firefighters alike compete in a series of events to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy.

These events are designed with FUN being the first priority, while engaging skill, strength, endurance and team work. These events are structured to create parity amongst the teams and this is achieved by having 2 heats inside each event. ‘Heat 1’ is drawn at random. In ‘Heat 2’ all of the first place teams compete against each other, all the second place team compete against each other, and so on and so forth. This ultimately creates a score going into the final event where most teams will still have a chance to win it all and be crowned Firefighter Games Champions for your Region!

Taco Twist Bake Ingredients: 3 cups of cooked taco seasoned meat.

1 (15 oz) can of tomato sauce. ½ cup of chopped green or red pepper.

1 package (8 oz) of cooked and drained spiral pasta.

1 cup (8 oz) of light sour cream.

1 cup (4 oz) of divided shredded cheddar cheese.

Directions: Preheat the oven to 325° and spray a 8×8 pan with cooking spray.

Bring to a boil the taco meat, tomato sauce and peppers in la large saucepan.

In a large bowl, mix together the pasta and sour cream.

Place the pasta and sour cream mixture in the pan, add ½ cup of cheese, add the meat mixture.

Bake for 25 minutes, take out of the oven add the rest of the cheese and bake for 5 or 10 more minutes.

Easy, peasy and cheesy! Give it a try guys, you will love it.
