During the pandemic, these Chartwells foodservice team members stood out as leaders and heroes. We appreciate all they do, going above and beyond expectations.

UNWAVERING DEDICATION Linda Robinson

SEATTLE UNIVERSITY A foodservice associate at Seattle University since 1965, Linda first prepared 250 lunch bags every morning, then jumped on the serving line to help during the lunch rush. But today, she enjoys her role as cashier, which enables her to make a personal connection with new SU students. Her nurturing spirit and contagious positivity have been especially appreciated during the isolating circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic. Linda helps make Seattle U a better place to work and live.

ALWAYS STEPS UP Talibah Jones

ADELPHI UNIVERSITY Despite having a hearing impairment, hardworking Talibah has an eagerness to learn and grow. She joined the Adelphi Dining team at the back of the house, and as she excelled, her responsibilities grew. Now, she stocks, transports and inventories all satellite units. In fall 2020, Talibah made sure all students in quarantine received their meals. During spring semester, she transported Adelphi’s disabled associates for mandatory COVID-19 testing. No matter the obstacles, Talibah always steps up to the plate.

WARMTH AND SUPPORT Lin Collins

OLIVET COLLEGE A dedicated foodservice employee for more than 20 years, Lin has made many sacrifices to help Olivet students. Going above and beyond her job expectations, during the pandemic she hand knit more than 300 scarves for students and gifted them during “Love, Chartwells” events. In the past, Lin has housed students during times of need, thrown graduation parties for them, mended and given them clothing and more. Her heartfelt gestures have positively impacted countless lives in the community.

BRINGS HER LIGHT Roberta Crist-Cole

UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS Roberta starts her day at P.U.R.E Youth Athletic Alliance, a nonprofit that provides education and foundation for underserved youth in Memphis to break generational poverty. She cooks nutritious meals for these young people, and then arrives on campus to do the same for University of Memphis students. During the pandemic, she played an important role in leading the Dining team. An incredibly hardworking supervisor, Roberta has established an inclusive environment at UM where all associates feel supported.

PASSION AND PERSONALITY Jesus Miguel Ontiveros

WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY A valuable team player, Miguel joined Wichita State’s Dining team just prior to the pandemic as a Child Development Center (CDC) cook. Since then, he has been promoted to supervisor, managing and leading the team. His passion and personality always shine through while working with the 115 children. During the height of the pandemic, Miguel excelled at making COVID-19 safe meals with a reduced staff and continuing his drive and commitment to excellence.

AN UNSUNG HERO Josh Bemis

KEENE STATE COLLEGE Hard work has made Josh a pillar of the culinary team. He is currently manager of the Night Owl Café, home of the popular “sizzler” or gyro. During this past year with fewer associates due to COVID-19, he has not only prepped, cooked, setup and served but also ensured the entire kitchen is clean. Josh is an unsung hero!

REMEMBERS EVERYONE'S NAME Michi Gunawan

SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY As a Food Unit lead, Michi knows the menu, manages her team well and has the amazing ability to remember the names of each guest and be friendly and kind to them from behind her face mask. She has an amazing work ethic, is willing to take more responsibilities, and has a cheerful and smiling nature! Many students will come to the counter just to chat with her. Michi promotes the Chartwells culture and spirit through her service.

KEEPS STUDENTS SAFE Willie Joyner

THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA Affectionately known as “Miss Willie,” she is the Customer Service Ambassador for Catholic’s resident dining program, the Eatery. On the Dining team for 47 years, most recently her role has included making sure students feel safe in the dining space during the pandemic. Her “above and beyond” hospitality, gentle nature and outgoing personality helped students feel welcomed and enjoy a sense of normalcy. Alumni often return to Catholic’s campus to visit Miss Willie, and she remembers them all!
