Philanthropy at School
PHILANTHROPY AT SCHOOL Building on the Foundations
As we approach the end of our first year of coeducation, there is much to reflect upon and celebrate. Yet we know there is more that we must do if we are to provide the most transformative experiences to current and future generations of Carthusians and we refuse to rest on our laurels. Building upon our historic Carthusian values we are shaping an academically-focused all round School, focused on personal values and supporting our pupils to become the young adults they wish to be.

The coming years will see our focus shift towards targeted investment in our academic and co-curricular facilities across Business and Leadership, Art, Drama and Music. Philanthropy and the generosity of our community has impacted on every generation during Charterhouse’s 411-year history. It will continue to be vital in the years ahead, ensuring that the pace of developments can continue, during this exciting period for the School.
Thanks to the generosity of OCs and parents, work will begin this summer on the first of these projects, the £1m+ refurbishment of the School’s 200 seat Lecture Theatre.
Last renovated in the mid-1980s, thanks to the generosity of OCs and parents in Hong Kong, we will create a modern, bright and spacious auditorium for 200. Due for completion this autumn, the new Lecture Theatre will be supported by a range of technologies to deliver, capture and broadcast content. Retractable seating will ensure that the space remains as flexible as possible for the changing needs of the School including hosting a range of lectures, meetings and assemblies throughout the academic year.
Available for daily use across all facets of School life, access to the new Lecture Theatre will, from September 2023, be through the School’s new Business Leadership and Entrepreneurship Centre, a much more inviting entry point than the current staircases. The Lecture Theatre will also have an important role to play in delivering keynote lectures for our growing Business and Leadership programmes as well as a multitude of other extra-curricular activities.
Your support
To support these efforts, we invite all OCs and parents to Take a Seat within this wonderful new facility, in celebration of your own, or a loved-one’s, connection to Charterhouse. A donation of £500 is suggested, with no upper limit. In recognition of each donation to our Take A Seat appeal, we will be delighted to add your chosen name to a metal plaque, affixed to an individual seat.
All donations are incredibly appreciated, and can of course be made without naming a seat should you prefer.
Notes for Donors
• Seat plaques recognising OCs will include their House and year of leaving. • Seat plaques will be in place for the life-time of the seating that is being installed. • Unfortunately, naming a seat does not guarantee that you will be able to sit in the seat when attending a School event. • The School reserves the right to amend or refuse any dedication that may be deemed offensive.

How to Take a Seat
• Complete the enclosed gift form with either a single or monthly gift. • Print clearly how you would like the name to appear on the seat plaque (max 25 characters including spaces, and House / year of leaving if an OC). • Return the enclosed gift form to the Foundation Office at Charterhouse.
