A Message from the President & CEO
As autumn deepens, we enter a time of year that naturally draws us closer together — through shared traditions and gatherings that celebrate the ties between us. Music has a singular way of doing that. It invites us to share in something larger than ourselves; to find moments of beauty, emotion, and a sense of togetherness that comes from witnessing artistry come to life in real time.
This month, you’ll hear that connection expressed in many different ways: the vivid storytelling of Respighi’s Pines of Rome; the creative expression of Black Charlotte, where music and poetry meet; the crossgenerational appeal of Luther Vandross’s music, sung by American Idol winner Ruben Studdard; and the family fun of Home Alone in Concert, with John Williams’s heartwarming score performed live. Each program reflects the many experiences that make us who we are, showing how powerfully music can remind us of where we’ve come from and what we share. It’s a reflection of what we strive to be as Charlotte’s Orchestra: diverse in style and genre, yet united by the shared experience of live music.
As we look ahead to the holidays — this special season of connection — I’m reminded that connection lies at the heart of everything we do: on stage, in schools, and throughout our community. Thank you for being part of this shared experience and for keeping the musical pulse of Charlotte strong.

Your Charlotte Symphony Experience
Whether this is your first concert or you’ve been enjoying the Symphony for years, we’re glad you’re here. Below are a few things to know to help you feel right at home.

A full bar, beverages, and snacks are available both before the concert and during intermission in the lobby.
Photography
We welcome and encourage you to capture and share photos before and after the concert or during intermission. Feel free to use your cell phone for photography without flash during the performance, but please refrain from video or audio recording.
Applause
You’ll notice that audiences applaud to welcome the concertmaster, conductor, and featured artists on stage. Some works may have several sections, or movements, separated by brief silent pauses. It is tradition to hold applause until after the last movement. If you are unsure, wait for the conductor to face the audience. But if you feel truly inspired, don’t be afraid to show your appreciation.

John Williams composer
In a career spanning more than six decades, John Williams has become one of America’s most accomplished and successful composers for film and the concert stage. He remains one of our nation’s most distinguished and contributive musical voices. He has composed the music for more than one hundred films, including all nine Star Wars films, the first three Harry Potter films, Schindler’s List, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Lincoln, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, and the Indiana Jones films. He served as music director of the Boston Pops Orchestra for fourteen seasons and remains their Laureate Conductor. He
has composed numerous works for the concert stage including two symphonies and more than a dozen concertos commissioned by some of America’s most prominent orchestras. He has received five Academy Awards and fiftyfour Oscar nominations, seven British Academy Awards, twenty-five Grammys, four Golden Globes, and five Emmys. His other honors include the Kennedy Center Honors, the National Medal of Arts, an honorary KBE from Queen Elizabeth II, the Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute, Spain’s Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, and the Gold Medal from the UK’s prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society.
Ever since Home Alone appeared, it has held a unique place in the affections of a very broad public. Director Chris Columbus brought a uniquely fresh and innocent approach to this delightful story, and the film has deservedly become a perennial at Holiday time.
I took great pleasure in composing the score for the film, and I am especially delighted that the magnificent Charlotte Symphony Orchestra has agreed to perform the music in a live presentation of the movie.
I know I speak for everyone connected with the making of the film in saying that we are greatly honored by this event… and I hope that tonight’s audience will experience the renewal of joy that the film brings with it, each and every year.
David Glover guest conductor
Conductor David Glover is in his fourth season as Music Director of the Lynchburg Symphony and his fifth season as Artistic Director of Triangle Youth Music. Known for his captivating interpretations, and engaging presence on the podium, Glover is in demand as a conductor across many genres, including Classical, Pops, and Opera. He recently concluded a tenure as the Associate Conductor of the North Carolina Symphony where he led over 250 concerts including performances of major choral repertoire such as Carmina Burana, the opening classical concert of the Symphony’s new hall in Wilmington, NC, and two state-wide tours. He continues to maintain a close relationship with the North Carolina Symphony and conducts numerous concert events with them throughout the year.
Glover has guest conducted numerous orchestras including the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Minneapolis Pops Orchestra, Hendersonville Symphony, South Bend Symphony, Muncie (IN) Symphony, and the North Czech Philharmonic. In the past few years, he has returned numerous times to the Charlotte Symphony, including for previous performances of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker with Charlotte Ballet.
Prior to his position with the North Carolina Symphony, Glover served as the Associate Conductor of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and as the Artistic
Director of the Wabash Valley Youth Symphony in West Lafayette, IN. In addition to his work with TYM, this season Glover is also a lecturer at North Carolina State University where he conducts the Raleigh Civic Orchestra, working with its student and community musicians.
With the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra, Glover has raised the profile of the orchestra within the community, increasing ticket sales, and expanded the number of concerts presented by the orchestra. In addition, he has worked with the orchestra to update the audience experience and diversify the types of concerts and programming offered.
His passion for cultivating a love of classical music in younger generations is evident in both his work with youth orchestras and his creation of a series of successful school-day education shows which have reached over 250,000 elementary school children.
Glover holds degrees from the University of Georgia and Boston University in violin performance, and a master’s degree in instrumental conducting from Indiana University where his teachers were David Effron and Thomas Baldner. He has participated in master classes with Kenneth Kiesler, Paavo Järvi, Mark Gibson, and Johannes Schlaefli. In addition, he has composition studies with Benjamin Boyle and Phillip Lesser, and is an active composer and arranger.

The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is one of the premier music organizations in the Southeastern United States and the oldest continuously operating symphony orchestra in the Carolinas. As Charlotte’s most active performing arts group, the CSO presents around 150 concerts each season, reaching more than 150,000 music lovers.
The 2025–26 season marks the next chapter in the Charlotte Symphony’s artistic evolution under Music Director Kwamé Ryan. Framed by a season-long exploration of home — reflecting on belonging, identity, and place through a wide range of musical voices — the season offers bold new works, symphonic masterworks, and creative collaborations across the Classical, Pops, Movie, and Family series. Highlights include the debut of the CSO Spotlight Series, an everexpanding look at the work of this season’s CSO Spotlight Artist, Gabriel Kahane; performances of audience favorites like Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Ravel’s Boléro; and more events that showcase the Orchestra’s breadth, from the music of Dolly Parton to Black Panther in Concert. Engaging with more than 15,000 students each year, the Charlotte Symphony nurtures the next generation of musicians and music lovers through its four diverse
youth orchestras, in-school education programs, instrument coaching, and Project Harmony, which offers free afterschool lessons in music and life skills to over 200 students in under-resourced areas. With its new mobile stage, CSO Roadshow, the Symphony extends its reach directly into neighborhoods, bringing live music to communities across the region.
