IMPACT REPORT
A Message from Our Leadership
Dear Charlotte Prep Community, As we look back on the year, joy, our theme for the year, is what we remember most. It lived in our classrooms, on our fields, and in the countless moments, big and small, that remind us how fortunate we are to be a part of Charlotte Prep. Joy is what we build together, and this year we built a great deal. Together, we also celebrate a meaningful milestone: Todd’s first year as head of school. It has been a year of true partnership—among Todd, the board, our faculty and staff, our parents, and our students—rooted in a shared belief in this school and in all that lies ahead.
This was a year unlike any other in the life of our school. In August, we gathered to cut the ribbon on our new lower school building. Watching our students settle into bright new classrooms, gather in a cafeteria that hums with conversation, and play on new and restored fields has been one of the great joys of this year. These are not just beautiful spaces. They are daily proof of what a community can do when it refuses to be defined by its hardest moment and chooses instead to build something better. None of it would have been possible without you. Through the #OnePrepStrong campaign, our community gave $2,074,014 to support the rebuilding of our lower school. That generosity gave our children a home worthy of their curiosity and their promise. To every family, alumnus, grandparent, and friend who gave, thank you. You have left a mark on this campus that will outlast all of us. Your generosity extended to the Prep Fund as well, which reached an all-time high of $368,101 this year. The Prep Fund touches every corner of school life, and its growth reflects something deeper than dollars:
a community that believes in this school and in the children who learn and grow here. We are also deeply grateful for our volunteers, whose care is felt across campus every single day. The room parents, the parents’ association leaders, and the many hands that show up quietly and reliably to make life at Prep better for everyone. You are the heartbeat of this community, and we could not do this without you. In 2025-2026, our entire community came together to make an impact on the future of Charlotte Prep. We are filled with gratitude and, above all, joy. Thank you for giving so generously of yourselves to this school and its children. The best of Charlotte Prep is still ahead of us, and we cannot wait to build it together with you. With gratitude, Todd Ballaban Head of School

The Prep Fund
The Prep Fund is where our whole community shows up for our students, one gift at a time. Your generosity this year reached into every classroom.
Every gift finds a child.
How it Works
Why People Give
The Prep Fund is the foundational priority of philanthropy at Charlotte Prep, the fund everything else is built on, and the one that reaches every student, every day. These gifts make possible the moments that define a Prep education, the discovery and creativity and connection that happen here between the first bell and the last.
Tuition covers most of what it costs to educate a student at Charlotte Prep, but not all of it. The Prep Fund closes that gap every year. It is the reason a teacher can try something new and a program can grow rather than hold steady.
Some who give are living this now, watching a child come home full from something that happened in the science room. Others watched their children grow up here years ago and give because of what those years turned out to mean. Some are alumni themselves, who left after eighth grade and carried something of this place with them into high school and everything after. Every one of those gifts does the same work in the same place, in the daily joy of a child learning something new.

Tuition Assistance We are committed to making a Charlotte Prep education financially feasible for families and to attracting talented, well-qualified students, regardless of their families’ economic circumstances. Our financial assistance program reflects a dedication to fostering a community that is enriched and strengthened by diversity. The community’s support of the Prep Fund grows the assistance we are able to offer our families.

Athletics
Prep’s Volleyball Team Wins QCC Championship for the Second Year in a Row!
Our volleyball stars were undefeated all season, winning the QCC regular-season conference and the championship. Through the Prep Fund, you supported them with fresh jerseys, equipment, and spirit nights! Note from coach and alumni parent Mandi Mohammed: “Although we had dominant players on our team this season, what made this team special was our commitment to being just that—a team! Behind all the wins, what most don’t see is the hard work, the determination to get better, the willingness to learn, the extra minutes in the gym before and after practice, the support from teammates, the frustration when learning new skills, the laughter (and sometimes tears), and all the effort that goes into being great individually, and collectively! This team made us proud in so many ways, but most of all in how they supported one another. The pure joy in celebrating each other’s successes. That is what athletics is all about! When we look back on this season, we won’t remember our record, how many sets we won, how many aces were served, or even the teams we played. What we will remember is that we finished better than we started, we learned new skills, we made friends, we laughed, had fun, and that we are the champions!”
The Arts
Spring Musical: The Wizard of Oz
Prep students from third through eighth grade showcased their extraordinary talents in The Wizard of Oz. Every year, students invest more than 150 hours in preparing our spring musical. Cast members immerse themselves in their roles, while the set design club and stage crew completely transform our gymnasium into the perfect setting.
Prep Fund support alongside amazing parent volunteers created visually stunning sets and costumes. This top-notch production proved that when it comes to creativity and courage, there is truly no place like Charlotte Prep.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging At our reimagined Global Picnic, the entire Charlotte Prep community came together to celebrate our rich cultural diversity through international games, food, performances, and twelve parent-run “heritage tables.”
One Prep Global Picnic
Prep Fund support empowers our DEIB work, fostering authentic connection and belonging for every family. Guided by our dedicated ONE parent committee, we proudly demonstrated that an inclusive culture makes Charlotte Prep extraordinary.
Tools for Teaching and Learning In the technology classroom, interactive robotics tools are transforming how Charlotte Prep’s youngest students engage with computer science. Supported by the Prep Fund, this progressive curriculum begins with Dash—a responsive robot used from kindergarten through sixth grade to teach foundational logic and problemsolving. And starting in first grade, students elevate their skills through Lego robotics, becoming inventors who design, build, and program their own contraptions. These versatile tools serve as a launchpad for creative exploration throughout the year. Guided by open-ended challenges, students explore both engineering and software logic, personalizing their builds while mastering key technical concepts. In one project, third graders built custom mazes where the player tilts a board to roll a small ball through the paths. The students programmed a gyroscope inside the Lego “brain” to track each movement and chart them on a live bar graph. It quickly turned into a fun game as students competed to finish the maze using the fewest tilts. Through Prep Fund investments in our classrooms, our students develop the confidence and curiosity to innovate.
Coding Curiosity in the Lower School
Professional Development An exceptional education relies on educators who never stop learning. Through the Prep Fund, our teachers access high-quality professional development that directly enriches the student experience. Last summer, second-grade teacher Kato Nims traveled to San Francisco to attend the “Leading Curricular Change” workshop hosted by Authentic Education. Bringing these innovative practices back to campus, Ms. Nims now leads monthly collaborative sessions for Prep educators to refine curriculum units and elevate teaching strategies across grade levels. The impact of this investment is already taking root in the classroom. Second graders are tackling revamped social studies units that address big questions like: How do we collaborate to create change in the world around us? “Yes, second graders can talk about that,” says Ms. Nims. By empowering educators to continuously grow, the Prep Fund sustains the joy of teaching while cultivating a new generation of curious, critical thinkers.

8th-Grade Gift
Our beautiful new student collaboration space in the middle school.
This initiative was made possible by the generous families of the class of 2026. This multi-purpose space includes a mobile library, independent workstations, a collaboration zone, and a cozy reading nook.
Special thanks to Prep parents Cyndi Chaney and Ava Farahany for organizing the gift.
“The 8th graders are so appreciative of the new space! They got to be the first students to work there, and they were happy as well as productive. The only thing they asked me to add was a clock so they can know what time to go back to class.” ~ Jessica Stargell, Head of Middle School

Anabel Kay & Sharon Turner
Anabel Kay has brought her true passion
Sharon Turner lit up the early school
for Montessori to life for the last 16 years here at Prep. Mrs. Kay has a gift for really seeing each child as an individual and meeting them where they are. Mrs. Kay delights in conversations and genuine interactions with students—taking the time to really listen and respond to their stories and questions. Children love to hear her tell stories—she has a gift for creating a story to go with just about any situation. She has been an advocate for her fellow teammates and a great collaborator with her peers, both in the early school and across the divisions. She is a professional with the highest integrity and embodies Charlotte Prep’s four pillars. Mrs. Kay is one of those special and rare individuals who strive to leave her classroom, school, and community a better place than when she arrived—with great success! While we will miss your warm and kind presence here at Prep, we are so excited for you as you enter this next chapter of your story.
hallway and Charlotte Prep campus with her incredible smile and joyous laugh for the last 13 years. Dedicated to her craft, Mrs. Turner pursued her Montessori Primary certification and joined the Daisy classroom as a Montessori intern and assistant after serving as a substitute and extended-day teacher. A true lifelong learner, she later obtained her Montessori Infant-Toddler certification as well, along with a wealth of additional professional development over the years. Mrs. Turner has consistently been one of the first people on campus and gave her all every day. She has been a mentor for other assistant teachers, a great teammate, a loving guide for her students, and a friend to her co-workers. We will certainly miss her lively greetings at carpool in the mornings, her gardening expertise, her gift basket composition skills, and so, so much more!
