You can’t help but love Lan when you meet her. She has the biggest smile and is always willing to help in any way she can. She exudes happiness and has a positive outlook on life. Lan is a single mom with a two year old daughter named Zelda. She relocated here from Vietnam in her early 20’s. Lan’s occupation in Vietnam was in the media field, and in Charlotte County she is employed as a restaurant server. Having a secure, affordable home for her family has been a struggle, with affordable being the key word. Lan stated that her living expenses will be cut in half once she purchases her Habitat home, which will enable her to focus more on raising her daughter and not work as many hours. Lan is dedicated to making a better life for her daughter.
Lan is one of 36 families that Charlotte County Habitat is partnering with on their journey to secure, affordable home ownership during our current fiscal year. The support of the community is vital to the success of this commitment. Team Punta Gorda is one group that offered volunteer labor to build Lan’s home. They have raised walls, installed vinyl siding, hammered away and painted to their heart’s content to help a fellow member of the community.
