We caught up with Maureen one day while she and a group were painting the inside of her future residence. She is very anxious to have a place to call home. Being displaced from Super Storm Sandy in October, 2012, did not dampen her spirit while she persevered and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Hofstra University two months later. Unable to find affordable housing, a friend convinced her to leave New York and move to Florida. Leaving her children with family, she established an apartment here, furnishing it with items from Habitat’s ReSale store and got acquainted with the store manager while learning about Habitat’s Homeownership Program. Maureen has had the opportunity to serve in the community through theater, education and support. Her vision is to use her Public Relations gifts and skills to start Butterfly Productions Worldwide, a not for profit that uses theater, film, motivational speaking and
writing to help educate, inform and support those who are diagnosed with a mental illness. Maureen’s son, whose interests are in computer programming, and her daughter, a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University, have joined her and are pursuing their lives locally as well. Maureen is grateful to have the opportunity to call Charlotte County home and is excited to continue partnering with social service agencies, local theater and health providers to support and encourage all residents. We wish her and her family much success as they continue on life’s journey. God Bless You,
Gabrielle Reineck Senior Director of Outreach
