Join the Dragon Boat Fun!

Climb Aboard – September 25!

n Monday morning at 9:45 the first 11 paddlers from Cresswind began learning how to paddle a Dragon Boat. The good news is that we still have room for 15 more residents over 50 years old to join the team. There will be two Dragon Boats sponsored by the Whippoorwill Magazine and representing Cresswind on race day, September 25th.

But you won’t have to wait for the races to join in the teams and participate in weekly practice sessions. You can be part of one of our teams consisting of 13 persons per boat. The two team captains are Rick Sacco, and Jeff White. These guys share the common interest in gathering some like-minded paddlers

together to have a lot of fun while learning about a new sport! If you like Pickleball and the swimming pool, then you will love participating on one of our Dragon Boat Teams.

Rotarian and local resident Jessica Walker, leader of the event and master paddler, is present at all practices.

The practice for first timers and newbies called “Dragon Boat 101” is conducted by Jessica and is held weekly every Monday morning at 9:45 AM at the Children’s Playground next to Drake Field behind the library.

As the teams are formed under the

leadership of Rick Sacco and Jeff White they will choose their time of practice and will coordinate their teams practice time with Jessica.

Serious practice begins right after Labor Day. Our teams have been enjoying practice sessions throughout the summer, at no additional cost, on Lake Peachtree. The purpose of the practice sessions is to build teamwork and to teach the participants the basic skills to enable the team to be competitive.

Team practices reserved for registered teams will take place under supervision every Thursday afternoon at 6 PM.

Once organized, each dragon boat will have 13 people – one drummer who must be small and does not paddle, plus 10 active paddlers and 2 standby paddlers. The Rotary Club provides the steersperson for guidance and safety.

On Race Day – September 25th, each team will participate in several races. A great day for teams to get together with their families – all day!

About the Rotary Club’s Dragon Boat Festival The Rotary Club’s International Dragon Boat Festival will be at Drake Field, Lake Peachtree on September 25, 2021.

hen the first Cresswind community formed at Lake Lanier in 2010, the then-Area VP of Kolter Homes, Bob Rademacher, created three pillars for the lifestyle program: Fitness, Nutrition, and Relationships.

Fitness, of course, due to the diverse and plentiful class options taking place in the community clubhouse every day of the week. From the gym to the indoor pool, from the yoga room to the line dance classes, the clubhouse was always home to good, sweaty fun for those looking to stay strong in body and spirit.

Nutrition was showcased in the schedule of guest chefs and homeowner-led cooking classes organized by the ultrapopular Cooking Club. With an emphasis on healthy cooking, nutrition was a valued component of these presentations.

Relationships refers to the vibrant Club programs that organically take shape as homeowners realize their common interests. From Book Club to Travel Club, friendships are made as programming grows. In addition, opportunities for volunteer services within the region get shared, and wideranging support flows from within the community to various local service organizations.

Over the years, this Cresswind lifestyle brand has evolved and this year, our new cornerstones debuted as Fitness, Relationships, Education, and Entertainment. We like to call

it, “Set Yourself F.R.E.E.” Even Fitness has evolved as we recently partnered with EGYM to provide our homeowners with a unique smart-cardio system that will demystify and support even the most skittish gym user!
