Hello! Here we are! Despite a year that threw every possible hurdle our way, from Coronavirus to fires to floods to murder hornets, we can look at Cresswind at Twin Lakes and see a real, wonderful, and growing community! Congratulations to our first crop of homeowners and those who are joining us in the weeks and months to come. Thanks to our collective efforts, we’ve become experts at socially-distant social events where we utilize the vast lawn behind the sales center and enjoy boxed meals and self-serve beverages, faces masked but eyes bright and friendly! We laughed our way through a Drive-In Movie and Comedy Night under a beautiful full moon thanks to Traditions Golf and Country Club who generously loaned us their parking lot. We’ve enjoyed Yoga, Low-Impact Aerobics, and Tai-Chi on the grounds surrounding the model park so we can stay active and healthy while the beautiful fall weather allows. And soon we’ll have shiny new Pickleball courts available so we can break them in during the cool, winter days. The name of the game is fitness, nutrition, relationships, and a whole lot of fun! Sure there’s some unusual constraints we have to accommodate these days, but we will use our creativity and good energy to harness the spirit of Cresswind and watch it grow and thrive regardless, during this incredible first year. Please take note of the advertisers in this debut issue of The Lakes, for they have invested in our community from day one and will continue to support our Lifestyle events. We could not provide this wonderful magazine without their support. I find myself with ever-growing gratitude for a job based on my favorite word, Community. To have a Welcome Committee forming at such an early stage in our community is very special! Both Marti and Cindy have been very busy riding in their golf cart or walking to each new home and welcoming their new neighbors with hand made goodness. Moving can be a long and hectic process, to uproot and move to a new community can feel daunting. These small acts of outreach are the key ingredient to making a house a home and to create immediate connections even in new surroundings. Thank you Marti and Cindy! (teacher) and Andrea (nurse) and her husband Ryan, a State Farm Agent, and they each have two boys and one girl, giving us 6 sweet grandkids. I spent most of my work life with Gwinnett County Public Schools, first in a middle school and then at the central office until I retired in 2013. Last year, when Ken and I saw the sign on Hwy 53 announcing a new 55+ community, I immediately researched and reached out, long before any build had started. We even checked out the model homes before the sales office was opened. By April we were ready to go, we contacted Chantal and Eddie and the rest is history! We purchased one of the last two spec homes and sold our house in 8 days! We are so happy here, and of course Marti and Brad Miller welcomed us with fresh cookies while moving in. I told Marti that I love making cards and crafts and I really wanted to welcome new neighbors with a handmade card, while letting Marti do her “cookie” intro. To me, card making is very relaxing but also a gift that can make someone feel good. Ken built most of the furniture in my craft room and I welcome any and all new neighbors to come and visit. We Cindy Williams look forward to many wonderful years here and cannot wait I was born and raised in Newnan, Georgia, so I am one of the few “native Georgians.” Ken and I married in 1975 and to get to know all the new folks who will call Cresswind at we have two children - Brad (teacher) and his wife Christy Twin Lakes home! Brad and I moved from Leawood, KS, a suburb of Kansas City. We moved to Georgia to be closer to our daughter and her family including three granddaughters. We knew we wanted to find a 55+ community and we explored several different options but the beauty and serenity of Cresswind at Twin Lakes won us over. Brad and I were the very first homeowners here so we’ve watched every home rise above ground which has been an exciting perspective! Each home really does have its own character and charm and it’s wonderful to watch people move in and only enhance it with their own taste and good energy. Because we were the first couple in the neighborhood, we felt compelled to reach out to each new homeowner to welcome them with a smile and fresh baked cookies! This outreach has already created new friendships and a real sense of community. I’m so happy to be part of the original Welcome Committee here at Creswind at Twin Lakes and I look forward to welcoming YOU.

Pickleball will be our spotlight activity and is estimated to be the largest, private pickleball facility in the state of Georgia.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR FEATURED AMENITY – PICKLEBALL!

fter playing golf one Saturday during the summer of 1965, Joel Pritchard, congressman from Washington State and Bill Bell, successful businessman, returned to Pritchard’s home on Bainbridge Island, WA (near Seattle) to find their families sitting around with nothing to do. The property had an old badminton court so Pritchard and Bell looked for some badminton equipment and could not find a full set of rackets. They improvised and started playing with ping-pong paddles and a perforated plastic ball. At first they placed the net at badminton height of 60 inches and volleyed the ball over the net. As the weekend progressed, the players found that the ball bounced well on the asphalt surface and soon the net was lowered to 36 inches. The following weekend, Barney McCallum was introduced to the game at Pritchard’s home. Soon, the three men created rules, relying heavily on badminton. They kept in mind the original purpose, which was to provide a game that the whole family could play together.

In 1967, The first permanent pickleball court was constructed in the backyard of Joel Pritchard’s friend and neighbor, Bob O’Brian. In subsequent years, a corporation was formed to solidify the new sport, and by 1976 the first known pickleball tournament in the world was held at South Center Athletic Club in Tukwila, Washington. In 1984, the United States Amateur Pickleball Association (U.S.A.P.A.) was organized to perpetuate the growth and advancement of pickleball on a national level, and the first rulebook was published in March of that year. In 2001, the game of pickleball was introduced for the first time in the Arizona Senior Olympics through the efforts of Earl Hill. The tournament was played at Happy Trails RV Resort in Surprise, AZ and drew 100 players. It was the largest event ever played to that point. Over the next few years the event grew to nearly 300 players. Currently, the sport of pickleball is exploding in popularity. There are

now nearly 8,500 locations on the USA Pickleball’s Places2Play map. The spread of the sport is attributed to its popularity within community centers, PE classes, YMCA facilities and retirement and active-living communities. The sport continues to grow worldwide as well with many new international clubs forming and national governing bodies now established on multiple continents. Here at Cresswind Georgia at Twin Lakes, pickleball will be a spotlight activity! Current plans for the residentonly Pickleball Center include 30+ courts with an Eagle’s Nest viewing area and tournament facilities. Upon completion, our Pickleball Center is estimated to be the largest, private pickleball facility in the state of Georgia. Expect an official Pickleball Club to form quickly, where beginners can take lessons and homeowners can enjoy open-play hours, schedule court time for varying levels of expertise, and of course, host tournaments! Peachtree City’s Cresswind Community Wins National Award

On behalf of Cresswind Peachtree City, Lifestyle Director, Nicole Jurovics, receives national honors as silver award winner for “Lifestyle Program” by the National Association of Homebuilders.

n Jan 21, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the National Association of Homebuilders awarded Cresswind Peachtree City national honors as the silver award winner in the 2020 55+ NAHB Housing Awards for “Lifestyle Program.” Nicole Jurovics, the Lifestyle Director, accepted the award on behalf of Cresswind Peachtree City. The approximately 600 residents all agree that Cresswind is a very special community that they bought into when they purchased their new home from Kolter Homes. From the very beginning, Kolter Homes planned a true community, as opposed to simply building great homes. The Cresswind lifestyle is unique in that it is centered around the pillars of Fitness, Nutrition and Relationships. This award-winning lifestyle can be found in every Cresswind community. Kolter defined the demographics of the community as “Active Seniors.” Then they provided the residents with an 18,000 square foot Clubhouse with an indoor and outdoor pool, a gym, exercise room, art room, full

kitchen, yoga room, ballroom, salon, and plentiful seating areas. Outside, they placed tennis courts and the hugely popular pickleball courts. They also provided a grill area and a large outdoor concert pavilion with a dance area. Amenities such as those can be found in many new developments, so why did Cresswind Peachtree City capture such a coveted award? The answer is that they didn’t just build houses and buildings. From the very beginning, Kolter provided professional fulltime leadership to help the residents become a real community. Hired as Lifestyle Director in mid-2017, Nicole Jurovics took charge of meeting every new resident and helping them meet other residents by providing a growing base of clubs and interest groups. She supported the residents as they launched weekly TGIF get-togethers, community luncheons, indoor parties, an exciting schedule of weekly fitness classes, and outdoor concerts featuring tremendously successful tribute performers.

Secondly, I want to provide you with a quick update from Kolter Homes

on our progress. We have been amazed and pleased by the overwhelming response to Cresswind Twin Lakes! Total homes sold to date is 122 - this is an outstanding achievement in the short time that we have been open. The main entrance is almost complete and we will

open for traffic in late November. The first phase of the Pickleball complex is moving along better than expected and the courts should be available for play in early December - Zero Zero Pickle! Phase #2 is well underway and will be complete by early 2021 and we are planning for Phase #3 to break ground in late March 2021. Lastly, the Clubhouse permitting process should be completed soon and we expect to break ground in mid-December of this year. As you can see, we are making tremendous progress at Twin Lakes and are looking forward to a great 2021! Regards,
