Glossary of Terms
Acid-Etched Glass
Facet Glass
The top surface of the glass is chemically treated to create a matte finish with an almost satin-like feel. Available on single-layer as well as multi-layer glass.
Back-Painted Glass
Fusion Glass
Ultraclear glass with a layer of paint on the underside. Available in most Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams colors. Also available on Acid-Etched glass.
Frosted Glass
Fusion glass is made from multiple layers of clear glass that are permanently bonded together in a kiln using high heat. Available in four different bottom textures.
Linen Laminated Glass
Although slightly similar in appearance to acid-etched glass, frosted glass is created by sand-blasting the underside while the top remains glossy.

Facet glass is created by bonding three sheets of glass together and then shattering the middle piece. Facet is available in thicknesses from ¾” to 11/4”.
As the name suggests, this glass is created by sandwiching a piece of linen between two pieces of glass. They are then bonded using super-strong adhesives.

Clear vs. Ultraclear Glass • The clarity of glass is determined by its iron content. • Clear glass will, under some conditions, appear to have a green tint. • With a lower iron content than that of clear glass, Ultraclear glass is much clearer. However given the right lighting conditions and background, it can still be perceived as having a hint of green. • Clear glass is specified on all Charleston Forge standard product. If Ultraclear is desired, it must be custom ordered.
Laminated & Bonded Glass • Available on almost all glass options except mirrored options. • We use UV lighting with super strong adhesives to bond glass to glass, and glass to metal. You can add metal banding to the edge of your glass project. • Entire tables can be made from glass bonded together to form a waterfall edge, or a metal puck can be bonded to the bottom to attach legs.
Custom Cutouts and Holes • Our glass is often used as countertops. We can drill precise holes and use our CNC machinery to achieve most requested shapes or cutouts. Our edging machine then applies the desired profile. • Edge options: Flat-edge polished (FEP), cove, pencil, ogee, hand carved, and natural.
