Our printing facility
Our cutting-edge printing centre, nestled in Warwickshire (UK), harnesses the advanced SRA3 Ricoh digital printer; ensuring consistent, top-tier print quality for on-demand greeting cards. This technology allows us to maintain minimal stock levels while providing a diverse array of designs. Our capability extends to printing on various materials, all compliant with the Woodland Carbon Code. In addition to greeting cards, our facility handles the printing of calendars, notecards, notebooks, colouring books, and paper/card packaging, reducing carbon emissions associated with transportation.
When you place your order we elect to capture the carbon from the manufacture and distribution of the paper. The amount of CO2 generated in the production and delivery of the paper we use is calculated and an amount is added to our invoice from the paper supplier.
All carbon capture charges are paid directly to the Woodland Trust via our paper suppliers, who will plant trees every year in a woodland area across the UK.
We also offer bespoke printing for a number of clients. Email sales@countrysidegreetings.co.uk for a quote
Sustainability
At our core, sustainability is not just a practice; it’s our ethos. We prioritise local production and materials, ensuring our greeting cards and paper products are printed within a mile of our offices using carbon-captured sustainable card and paper stock. Adhering to the Woodland Carbon Code, our commitment extends to utilising 100% recycled and FSC-certified sources for envelopes, all sourced within the UK.
Embracing circularity, we repurpose cardboard packaging whenever feasible and ensure responsible disposal through animal bedding and composting systems. Our dedication to recycling extends to old greeting cards, which are shredded and repulped for reuse. All our gift products are proudly manufactured in the UK, and a significant portion of our electricity is solar-generated.
In our pursuit of sustainability, we actively seek alternatives to plastic packaging, trialling biodegradable cellophanes such as NATIVA on select products like our Bumblee seed greeting cards. Furthermore, a portion of our profits directly fund tree planting initiatives, including hedgerows and the creation of a wildlife pond. We are also engaged in a rewilding project in Hampshire, dedicating 70 acres of chalk downland to the naturally regenerated Platinum Jubilee Woodland at Tidgrove.
Our sustainability journey is one of constant evolution, driven by a commitment to minimise environmental impact while fostering biodiversity and community resilience

- Ancient Oak Woodland Barcode 5060973770411 GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice Ancient Oak Woodland (Ty Canol and Pentre Ifan) Coed Tŷ Canol National Nature Reserve showcases weathered oaks with contorted forms, rugged rock formations, aged stone walls, and an Iron Age fortress. The woodland here has experienced shifts in coverage since the Ice Age, and it was already ancient when the Pentre Ifan stone burial chamber was constructed nearby 5500 years go.a Combining both ancient oak woodland and wood pasture, this area has been grazed by cattle, sheep, and ponies for centuries. This longstanding practice has played a significant role in making it one of the most diverse sites for lichens in all of ritainB and Ireland. - Canopy Barcode 5060973771197 GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice Canopy in Badock’s Wood, Bristol The woodland likely boasts an age of over four centuries. In 1905, Sir Stanley Badock, a prominent local -indus trialist and landowner, came to possess the woods and its adjoining parklands upon acquiring the Holmwood In 1937, he generously donated a portion of the wood to the City of Bristol, ensuring its accessibility to the local community for leisure and recreation. This act led to its recognition as ‘Badock’s Wood’. When you look up in Badock’s Wood, or any woodland, you’re immersing yourself in nature, appreciating its intricate beauty, and forging a connection with the rich history and ecology of the place. This engagement allows you to derive a wide range of physical, mental, and ionalemot benefits. Printed in Warwickshire, Great Britain © Charles Sainsbury-Plaice www.countrysidegreetings.co.uk
GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice Beech hedge, Simondsbath, Exmoor (Fagus sylvatica) The Beech tree is not indigenous to Exmoor and is primarily considered native to the South-East regions of England and Wales. A significant portion of the beech hedgerows found in the upland moorland were intentionally planted during the reclamation of the Royal Fores by the Knight family This process was set in motion by the Act for Inclosure, which was enacted in 1815, and continued well into the nineteenth century. These beech trees were carefully arranged in banks, flanked by tone walls, often forming double rows. The demand for beech trees on Exmoor was so substantial that a dedicated nurseryman was employed in Simondsbath to cultivate saplings from seeds and acclimate them to the Exmoor environment. GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice Brocton Coppice, Cannock Chase Brocton Coppice, Staffordshire, harbors 500-year-old sessile oaks, possibly inspiring J.R.R. Tolkien during his Great War tenure at Cannock Chase’s training camps. Believed to echo the Forest of Fangorn, this woodland might have ignited Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings saga. Today, it magnetizes visitors, forming a pivotal stop on the Tolkien Trail. The ancient oaks exude an enchanting aura, blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy. Brocton Coppice stands as a living tribute to nature’s power to inspire the human imagination, a place where Tolkien’s spirit may still linger, guarding the enchanted woods that birthed a literary masterpiece. - Wistman’s Wood Barcode 5060973770428 GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice The Ancient Oaks of Wistman’s Wood Wistman’s Wood stands as an exceptional fragment of temperate rainforest nestled in Dartmoor. This highaltitude forest has endured, in part, thanks to the rocky terrain in which the oak trees have thrived over the centuries. Grazing creatures like sheep and native ponies find challenging to traverse the moss-covered rocky surface. Within Wistman’s, you’ll also encounter the extraordinarily scarce Horsehair lichen (Bryoria smithii), a species exclusive to just two locations in Britain. When exploring this woodland, it is crucial to treat it with reverence and observe local regulations.
GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice Crab Apple, Powys (Malus sylvestris) The crab apple tree’s roots trace back to the mountainous terrains of Central Asia, particularly in present-day Kazakhstan. They gained popularity as favored cultivars for selective breeding and were dispersed across the continent along the Silk Road. The Romans introduced this species from Asia to Europe, eventually reaching Britain. These trees symbolize fertility and are a treasured find for foragers. Linked with themes of love and marriage, their petite, resilient fruits yield a stunning, gem-toned jelly. This old tree was photographed near Llanbister in Powys, Wales.
GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice Hornbeams on the Kerry Ridgeway (Carpinus betulus) The Kerry Ridgeway, an ancient drover’s route dating back centuries, winds its way through the picturesque countryside of Powys and Shropshire. These routes were the lifeblood of transportation in bygone eras, facilitating the movement of livestock, goods, and people across long distances. The hornbeams that grace this path not only bear witness to the passage of time but also stand as a testament to the enduring strength and utility of their wood, a quality highly valued by generations of craftsmen and farmers who relied on it for their livelihoods. Today, these stately trees continue to evoke sense of the rich history and traditions that have shaped this region for centuries.
GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice Small-leaved Lime (Tilia cordata) The small-leaved lime tree, once a prominent woodland species in England, has now become rare. Its presence typically indicates an ancient woodland. Not only are its leaves a preferred food source for various moth -cater pillars and a diverse array of other insects, but they also serve as an excellent food source for human foragers. The tender leaves can be incorporated into salads or used to wrap foods for cooking. Additionally, the blossoms and young fruits can be brewed into a tea known to lower cholesterol, often marketed as linden tea in health food stores. The tree captured in this photograph was located in Wrest Park for inclusion in The Queen’s Green Canopy book.

In the 1970s, this area gained renown thanks to Richard Adams’ novel, but it also boasts a rich historical background. Among Britain’s unfinished hillforts, Ladle Hill stands out as one of the most well-known. The flora and fauna thriving on this hill are deemed of exceptional significance, leading to its designation as a Site of Special ientificSc Interest in 1978. Ladle Hill exemplifies a rare calcareous grassland chalk downland habitat in modern Britain. CSPTREELADLE01

GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice The Llangernyw Yew, Conwy (Taxus baccata) This ancient yew tree is celebrated as the oldest in Wales and one of the most ancient worldwide. Nestled in the churchyard of St. Digian’s in Llangernyw, this astonishing tree is thought to have graced the earth for an astounding 3500 to 4000 years. Its roots trace back to the Bronze Age, suggesting that this site likely served as a sacred space for pagan worship long before the 13th-century church was erected alongside it. Despite embodying the concept of mortality while paradoxically thriving, the yew has evolved into a symbol of eternity and is sometimes linked with the Tree of Life—a prominent motif in various religious beliefs and -philo sophical systems. In 2022, the Llangernyw yew was among the 70 ancient trees consecrated to commemorate the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth, and it is prominently featured in the book “The Queen’s Green Canopy.” CSPTREELYEW01
- Major Oak Barcode 5060973771203 GREAT BRITISH TREES by Charles Sainsbury-Plaice The Major Oak - Sherwood Forest (Quercus robur) Nestled within the historic Sherwood Forest, sprawling 450-hectare national nature reserve, stands the Major Oak. This iconic tree is renowned worldwide as the clandestine refuge of Nottinghamshire’s legendary outlaw hero, Robin Hood. The Major Oak holds the distinction of being the largest oak tree in Britain, with an estimated age ranging from 800 to 1,000 years. This world-famous arboreal giant boasts impressive statistics, weighing in at approximately 23 tonnes, boasting a circumference of 10 meters (33 feet), and sporting a majestic canopy that soars to a staggering 28 meters (92 feet). According to lore, this mighty oak not only provided shelter for Robin Hood, but also served as the hub for him and his Merry Men as they hid and set up camp during their daring escapades. Although the exact recounting of Newton’s experience, as relayed by various witnesses to whom Newton purportedly shared the tale, cannot be authenticated, the event holds importance in elucidating Newton’s scientific thought process. The specific apple tree, belonging to the Flower of Kent variety, remains extant on the manor grounds to this day.
