VR Symposium Gives Glimpse Into Future

The purpose of the symposium was to show the various ways that students can develop empathy, interact with other cultures and environments, and have shared experiences through Augmented Reality(AR) and Virtual Reality(VR).

Director of eLearning, Bonnie Riedinger began the event by introducing the topic and how Virtual Reality can allow us to create empathy through the VR environments. Reidinger then introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Casale, the Chief Science Officer of STRIVR. Martin has a proposition for Simon; he has a crush on Simon’s friend Abby, and if Simon helps him get with Abby, his secret stays safe.

The blackmail plot kicks in just as the first act of the film is winding down, and it fuels the rest of the plot, showing how far Simon would go, and what he would do to protect his secret.

As all romantic comedies are, Love, Simon is not complete without a happy ending.

Fans of the novel have generally been pleased with the film adaptation, which isn’t always the case. Love, Simon is faithful to Simon vs. The

In the film, Robinson plays a gay character, but he is straight. However, three of the films more prominent ensemble characters are played by actors who identify on the LGBTQ spectrum; Clark Moore, who plays Ethan, the only openly gay kid at school, and Joey Pollari, who plays Lyle, a Waffle House waiter and one of the three possibilities for who Simon imagines Blue to be, are both openly gay. Keiynan Lonsdale, who plays Bram, identifies as queer, and came out when filming wrapped on Love, Simon.

For many gay teens, this film is the first time they’ll see a reflection of themselves on the big screen. It may be idealized and a little too perfect in the way films typically are, but it’s more than there was previously. Gay teenagers can see a character that they share so much with getting his happy ending, and shows them that that they also deserve a happy ending. It’s a
