The show delivered the whole package, especially when it came to the elements other than the acting area. The sets were very 50’s TV show; they were big silver, and kind of corny looking, but in the exact way you would imagine a typical 50’s TV show or movie on the same subject would look like…they were perfect. The lighting was simple, but the black-

light effects with some of the Zombette’s hair and the floor paint provided a nice accent to the entire feel of the musical.

Speaking of the Zombette’s, they had their infamous chorus line which, intentionally or not, was by far the funniest part of the play. Basically, every cast member, female and male, strutted out in high heels, fishnets, and pink

This cliché 50’s alien encounter/ zombie thriller brought out some amazing characters and some typical 50’s stereotypes. Combining great music, opera singing, tap dancing, and

even cross-dressing, Zombies was a real thriller!

Based in Milwaukee, Zombies takes us on a whirlwind tour of the upcoming space program as Queen Zombina of Planet X lands to overtake the men of Earth for her sexual conquests. Equipped with an opera-esqe voice weapon that renders men as zombies, Zombina tries to take over the men of Earth, leaving Mary Malone (Brittany Bethea) and Charlene

I personally loved the set design. Oh and guys—I hope you know how awkward it was seeing you walk so well in high heels. Either way, hard work paid off again to make a highly talented show. Be proud!

WEST HAVEN— “To see a witness is to be a witness" is a famous quote from a survivor of the Holocaust, Elie Wiesel. This can apply to many things in life, but it is self-evident in the time of a genocidal war against a race. One of these wars happens daily in the African country of Darfur. This is a country where there have been conflicts of people being murdered and burned in churches, but yet no one has done anything. Was it all just because someone did not know?

Well as of now there has been little information about this conflict. But thanks to professors Mario Gaboury and Lauren Kempton there is going to be a teach-in on this very subject

All in all, Zombies provided laughs, surprises, and some serious entertainment.

ORL Gives Fifth-Years the Finger

Lend me your ears!

For those who do not know, there are not enough rooms on campus to house everyone who applied to attend UNH next year. That is why the Office of Residential Life was so dependent on acquiring the Wintergreen Apartments.

When their plan to obtain those apartments failed, they made drastic moves, like having all twoperson apartments, with the exception of about 10 in Sheffield, become three-person apartments.

When they figured out that this wasn’t going to fulfill the 400-450 bed capacity space they had to fill from losing the Wintergreen deal, they took another step.

All fifth year students received a letter on Thursday, April 10 (one day before room selection numbers were given out) and were told they were not going to be receiving housing next year.

Honestly, after the proverbial “jog on” from ORL, I was quite angry. Basically, they told us, in the letter, that we had to find other arrangements for next year, or, we could put ourselves on the waiting list with the people who didn’t pay on time… despite the fact we did everything right. That seems fair, doesn’t it?

I’m not hearing a roar of “yes.”

Seriously, why does every depart-

ment on this campus insist on covering for Admissions’ mistake of accepting too many freshmen? People say things will be tight, but the fact is, once you’ve finished four years, you’re SOL. I personally don’t understand why ORL would kick off campus the few people, about 100 according to their letter, who were probably the closest to graduation.

For someone like me, who depends on campus housing, this literally puts my degree in jeopardy.

While I don’t have a car or a job (while I’m at school), it leaves me in a position to find a place to live, and a way to pay for gas, a car, food, utili-

ties, and anything else that comes up…in less than three months.

While that doesn’t seem like a huge deal, I don’t live around the area, and it is hard for me to do these things when I don’t know where to look. Now I’m just from northern Connecticut, but I know this effects people from New Jersey and other states further away.

The best part is that we all received this letter more than two weeks after paying our deposit and assuming that housing would be provided.

Not to mention the coy quote from Patti Christiano’s e-mail pertaining to selection numbers, “All those who paid their

$250.00 room selection deposit by March 10, 2008 should have received a number.”

They neglect to tell the student body that it doesn’t include students who wish to stay an extra semester or year. While your advisor or professors will tell you it is okay to stay a fifth year, ORL has sent all of us a clear message: stay another year, pay the extra money, but don’t count on a room on campus. When I contacted them about it, they basically told me that under no real circumstances were exceptions to be made.

Real nice of them to be so sensitive to the students who they are supposed to be working for.

This is a plea to the students of UNH, commuter or resident, freshman or “super” senior: rise up in protest. E-mail the president and the Dean of Students, get your professors involved!

This is not fair and is not right, and should be fought! My name is Tim Fasano. I have been an orientation leader, a FE001 experienced student, a summer RA, president of the class of 2008, a member of over a dozen clubs, a student leader in the USGA for four years, yet I’m being denied housing because I want to finish my education.

Cut the crap, Hillary. You see, you’re turning me into a hypocrite. Last week, I wrote about John McCain and his controversial habits. But this week it’s all about you, baby!

Last Friday, Senator Obama made a statement that the press has recently been covering: “You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. […] And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Sounds good to me; he was merely making

the case that due to the frustrated economy and the lost jobs,

not reflective of the values and beliefs of Americans. Certainly not the Americans that I know - not the Americans I grew up with, not the Americans I lived with in Arkansas or represent in New York."

Maybe this is because your husband’s was one of the administrations that allowed these economic problems to persist for the past 25 years, Senator Clinton.

As huge of an Obama supporter as I am, I do have to admit that yes, Barack Obama could have reworded his statement to more concisely make his point without unintentionally offending anybody.

But the point of the matter is that he spoke the truth. Even though Hillary and

Merriam-Webster Online defines “respect” as “high or special regard.” U. Thant uses the word in this way: “Every human being, of whatever origin, of whatever station deserves respect.

We must each respect others even as we respect ourselves.” This past week, I have been appalled by the atrocious lack of respect throughout the UNH campus.

This week, I have seen students disrespecting professors, students disrespecting the visiting team at a sporting event, and students disrespecting themselves.

Before this semester, I never heard a cell phone go off in class without an embarrassed student muttering apologies to the professor and quickly turning his or her phone to silent. In

my Wednesday morning class in Kaplan, it is customary for cell phones to be going off all class, signaling the arrival of text messages. More amazing still, is that the student will answer with the volume still on while the professor tries to keep the lesson going above the sound of “beep beep beep.”

Is it really so difficult to hold off on texting for 90 minutes? If it is, can you at least show some respect and put your phone on silent?

As many people know, I am a member of the Chargers Pep Band. Our final performance of the semester was last Thursday night at the senior night for the men’s volleyball team. Walking into the gym, I was impressed and pleased to see the larger-thanusual student crowd.

a group of students began chanting a myriad of things. Now, I am an avid sports fan and would completely agree with anyone who says that chants and a reasonable amount of heckling is part of any good game. This being said, under no circumstances do I consider chanting that the opposing team looks like used tampons reasonable. Please keep in mind that things like this were being said at senior night. This means that there were a fair number of family members in attendance. On top of the chanting, an alarming amount of profanity was used.

Perhaps more surprising than the behavior of the students was the behavior of people from the athletics department. It

Acting Runs Low in Enjoyable Crime Drama

Next came the Unicycle Duo, which was very impressive. How anyone can do anything on one wheel while spinning another person around him is beyond me.

The Highwire was the big thriller before intermission. A quartet of men performed heart-stopping stunts (half of which were sans safety net). During the first of their big stunts, one of the

performers actually sent shock through the crowd when he slipped and struggled not to fall, losing his little hat in the process. Once he recovered, the team was able to impress time after time with its amazing talent.

After intermission, by far the best performance of the show took place: the Wheel of Death. Kudos to the two guys that are crazy enough to perform this stunt. The ring itself is a huge contraption with two rings that is spun by the performers inside them. Not only did the two performers jump into the rings as they flew by, but they performed stunts inside and on top of the rings as they spun very quickly. Not only were the performers not hooked up to safety wire, but the only chance of saving their lives lied

At the beginning of the month, Hartford, Conn. welcomed the start of a month-long presentation of talent with the Cirque du Soleil show Kooza.

Being the first time I had seen any Cirque du Soleil show, I did not know what exactly to expect. Was it the circus? Was it just acrobatics? Was it just a trippy vision of colors and lights? After I attended the show on Tuesday, April 8, all of my questions were answered. The performance is the perfect mix of classic circus that live up to modern-day qualifications of satisfying entertainment.

Kooza tells the story of a boy that discovers himself through the help of an imaginary kingdom introduced to him by a jack-inthe-box that he received in the mail. The

beauty of the story is the vagueness of it.

Never once is the story actually explained, however it is implied and can be molded to fit every viewer’s individual thoughts and feelings towards the plot. While I thought of the kingdom as imaginary, someone else may believe that it was right down the

Really, the story doesn’t even matter once the performances start. I think my heart is still trembling in terror from the stunts that the performers showcased. The first performance was one of three contortionists that would blow anyone’s mind. The

Even though the UNH Charger wrestling team lost to a very tough Rutgers squad that had proved not only to themselves but to all the people who came and supported them, that

they aren’t a laughing matter and that they can be a legit squad if they had the facilities to do so.

Next year will bring new competition and give the wrestling club an assortment of tournaments in which to compete in and prove themselves to the National Collegiate Wrestling Association, which is a league which brings together all college wrestling clubs so that they could still compete and prove their skills.

WEST HAVEN— The UNH Wrestling Club went to Rutgers University in New Jersey to compete in their first ever dual meet. The match was held on Sunday, April 13 at the College Ave. Gym. WEST HAVEN— The University of New Haven men's volleyball team sent their five seniors out in style with a 3-1 win over EIVA opponent Sacred Heart University on Thursday night, April 10 at Charger Gymnasium.

The Chargers prevailed 30-26, 30-20, 18-30 and 30-23.

Senior Chris Lennon, playing in his final match in front of a season-best and raucous crowd of 150 fans, led all players with 19 kills and added 18 assists as the Chargers improved to

10-15 overall. They picked up their first EIVA win of the season to finish the year at 1-9 in the Hay Division.

Tommy Musto, also a senior, logged 16 kills on outstanding .444 hitting, and added eight digs.

Sophomore Austin Michalski had 32 assists and 7 digs, while graduate student Matthew Soderstrom, also closing out his career at UNH, had 13 kills and five service aces.

For Sacred Heart (6-14, 1-9 EIVA), Kalani Efstathiou led the way with 15 kills while Chris Yantz logged 12. Dan Duvall had a match-high

42 assists.

With the victory, UNH snapped a seven-game losing streak, including a 3-1 loss to SHU back on Mar. 26.

Lennon ended the season by leading the team with 355 kills, 4.13 kills per game and 429.5 points. He also led with 176 digs (2.05 pg), and was second in assists (399) and service aces (31).

Soderstrom was second on the club with 271 points and a team-best 35 service aces and 70 blocks this season. Musto had 220 kills (2.59 pg) to rank second on the club.

If stunts aren’t your thing, then the clowns are sure to please you with their goofy tricks and jokes (yes, they

even included some mime).

This show was the perfect combination of spectacle and excitement, elements that I think make up any great performance.

You will leave Kooza completely in awe and wanting to know more about the people that are crazy enough to perform the stunts you just witnessed. I urge everyone to go see the show while it is still in Hartford until April 27.

Even though the film’s story was highly enjoyable to watch unfold on screen, its main plot was somewhat predictable.

Street Kings contains a number of small twists and turns throughout the film, however, a reasonably intelligent moviegoer will know exactly who the bad guys are and where the film is headed within

Street Kings is an enjoyable crime drama despite the aforementioned problems. This is a film that we recommend seeing in theaters, although you do not have to make it a priority. While it’s not as powerful as Training Day, it is still a film that fans of this genre will be glad they have seen.

Alright celebrities, I have one piece of advice for you: WEAR A CONDOM! I’m so tired of hearing about scandalous pregnancies, and then reports denying the claims, and then reports confirming the claims. If you didn’t have unsafe premarital sex with your boyfriend, we wouldn’t have this problem!

While I’m addressing all celebrities, this rant is mainly the con-

sequence of numerous surprise pregnancies including Jamie Lynn Spears, Jessica Alba, and most recently Ashlee Simpson (Ashlee Simpson’s supposed pregnancy began as a rumor on Monday after the announcement of her engagement to Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz over the weekend).

If you are a highprofile celebrity (especially an underage one like you, Jamie

Lynn) you need to be more careful than the average person.

If you are not married, and your career is on the line, why don’t you just have safe sex or none at all? Don’t act surprised when people judge you once you actually become pregnant. I’m going to laugh at you as you attempt to deny claims until your second trimester. This could all be avoided with a pack of condoms.

According to the liberal website Democratic Underground, 72% say that Obama's statement was honest, something that the nation needed, and was "actually a great statement." Is this a biased poll? Yes, however among liberals. But interestingly enough,

this covers both Obama’s and Clinton’s supporters. So, while this poll would be extremely biased if McCain were involved, the fact that it covers a Democratic opinion takes the majority of the bias away.

Obama even apologized publicly, something that he didn’t even have to do in my opinion. But it shows strength that he did and it shows strength that he identified with

others that they were slightly offended. And frankly, I can’t think of a time when Hillary has apologized for things she has said and acted on. All Hillary has done is continue to separate the Democratic Party, something that – regardless of the Democratic nominee – will surely later bite her in the ass.

Hot Topics with CQ Researcher Database

WEST HAVEN— If you have ever had a library workshop for your E105 class, then you probably have heard of CQ Researcher. For those of you who don’t know, CQ Researcher is a weekly report that focuses on one issue in depth. It was originally published in 1923 to give World War I reporters background information. Nowadays it is still used for background information and is a great resource for learning about current topics and for its bibliography which suggests further reading.

The Marvin K. Peterson Library has CQ Researcher in print from 1991 to the present in the Reference Collection. That means that, until recently, students inter-

ested in using CQ Researcher were limited to using the item in the library or making photocopies to use at home. Now the library is happy to announce the CQ Researcher online database combined with CQ Global Researcher.

Now, you can access CQ Researcher remotely and have access to information going back several years. You can browse topics or type in your own. You can also limit your results by date if you only want very current information.

Not only is CQ Researcher helpful for E105 assignments and others, it is a great place to learn about a topic you are generally interested in. The topics are researched by journalists, compared to the questionable sources you might find searching Google or Wikipedia.

It provides a balanced approach while covering the past, present, and future of the topic.

These topics are current and try to reflect important issues going on at the moment.

In addition to the articles in CQ Researcher, you will find a bibliography with citations for further reading. This is a great place to start on research for a paper. You can also set up alerts for a topic which is particularly helpful if you will be working on this topic all semester.
