Welcome to ddb draft.design.build Draft Design Build, ddb ltd based in Finchampstead, United Kingdom, formerly i-desk solutions Ltd, was founded in 2002. Born out of a classic furniture manufacturer, the state-of-the-art production facility produces incredible workspace designs and solutions for a vast array of environments from schools and higher education to medical, boardroom and workgroup office configurations.

The i-desk as it has become known, quickly established itself in the UK, Europe and Asia as the top brand for build quality and high specification. ddb has continued to innovate by listening to customer’s needs and producing a range of real world solutions for today’s needs. The universally accepted i-rise is a leader in the multifunctional desking workspace after its original version was first produced over 15 years ago. ddb collaborates with top designers to manufacture stunningly beautiful and versatile award winning desk designs. All desks are created with functionality at their core, with many incorporating clever features that promote a healthy workspace. ddb work with many companies using our design expertise along with 3D modelling and forming skills to produce many bespoke products to fit individual needs. We continue to innovate using a range of sustainable and beautiful materials. Our i-heat product can be incorporated into most of our designs to promote health benefits to the user while reducing heating bills and carbon emissions.

DRAFT Founder, Steve Brooks offers over 40 years of unique and highly skilled experience in cabinet making using advanced design and manufacturing processes. The prototype service uses advanced “inventor� software, CNC production, vacuum forming and virtual 3D modelling for conceptual product design.

BUILD The beautiful designs are built using the very best sustainable materials through carefully selected suppliers. ddb have not just invested heavily in design and production equipment, but also in the skilled people who make and build each product by hand. This popular design securely houses built-in PC’s, screens and keyboards. With a press of a button, the IT equipment is lowered into the unit and locked in place. The i-rise then converts into a large flat work surface, making it ideal for team meetings.

Boardrooms & Meeting Tables The River boardroom table design oozes individualism and presence. The impressive finish is created with solid elm and a high gloss resin making for a beautiful look which will become the first subject on the agenda. These handmade tables are lovingly built by our highly skilled craftspeople where attention to detail is essential to form such a stunning finish. There are many resin colours and options available to add further impact or individuality to your boardroom.

The Myriad caters for scale, any scale. A cleverly designed system that is made up of 4 and 2 seater configurations that link together to make up a much bigger system to cater for those large board meetings and briefing sessions. The Myriad has many hidden features, such as built in storage, cable management, integrated charging, electrics and multi-ports.

The optional fold down screens can be synchronised or operate independently.

Primary & Secondary Education Designs

I-DESK The original modular design created by our founder Steve Brooks nearly 20 years ago. These incredibly versatile and robust desks can withstand many years of heavy duty school use. The patented interlocking jigsaw design allows for many configurations, scale and multiple uses. The i-desk was the first product to integrate technology and IT into a safe and secure lockable system for tower and cassette based computing. Ideal for ICT suites and music rooms where pupils cannot remove expensive equipment. The i-desk is available in a vast array of finishes and colours to match school colours or simply to just stand out. The i-heat feature is available on this line so students can benefit from warm workstations, even in the coldest of classrooms. A school using this clever technology will see significant reductions in their overall heating costs too.

I-RISE Two functions for one room. The i-rise has been our most popular multifunctional workspace solutions for over 15 years and provides access to hidden computer screens and keyboards. At the touch of a button, the central section housing the screens can lower to form a flat workspace.

The i-rise is available in various configurations making it a completely adaptable solution for any classroom needing to be used for multiple functions. A large selection of colours, finishes and leg systems are available in this range. Matching storage cabinets and IT Integrated teaching walls are also available.

Case study / M E T H Y R T Y D F I L After discussing the requirements of each space it was agreed that the i-rise product set would best suit the learning requirements for the college, allowing in excess of 27 classrooms to have multi-functional spaces, allowing ICT to be deployed when required, or removed quickly and seamlessly.

This allowed classroom spaces to be adjusted to suit the number of different courses and subject areas included at the College.

AFTER

ddb Ltd were also responsible for the cutting edge library area, offering a combination of multi-functional i-rise, fixed ICT and height-adjustable solutions to ensure students could use the library space in a number of different ways and be completely inclusive.

As well as the multi-functional aspect to the product range, the ability to secure and integrate their IT into the desking ensured the IT was protected from damage or theft, and could be easily upgraded on a component by component basis, ensuring the IT would continue to be cutting edge.

The plans were driven by project head Rachel EliasLee, who had looked in detail at the DDB range of products during the initial planning stages of the project.

Through working closely with Rachel, it became clear that the multi-functional products offered by DDB could assist in creating powerful cutting edge, multi-use spaces

Higher Education Solutions

LECTERN The college lectern concept was first devised for the NHS to administer drugs in a lockable portable unit with built-in PC. This allowed patient records to be updated at point of issue. Latterly, the lectern has been adapted to allow college and university lecturers to move their belongings and IT equipment from classroom to lecture theatre, quickly and easily. One version has a height adjustable table to allow for many different users, including wheelchairs.

MYRIAD HE The Myriad HE product is designed to give workgroups and large numbers of users or students access to optional fitted touch screen panels during lectures so sharing of data is made easier. When not in use the screens fold into the table revealing a flat large surface ideal for discussions and collaborative sessions. The tables are portable and can store IT product cabling etc in the belly of the frame, leaving a clean and tidy work surface.

The Myriad has many options including charging areas, multi-ports for various media as well as different surfaces, colours and finishes.

I-RISE HE This clever multifunctional and configurable desk houses many features to ensure a classroom or meeting room can be used for a variety of reasons. The lockable IT section lowers to create a large flat workspace.

By using patented jigsaw links, the desks can expand into different patterns and formats. Matching storage cabinets are available.

Case Study / B R I G H TO N U N I V E R S I T Y THE CHALLENGE The Huxley 400 room at the University of Brighton was a partitioned room where the dividing partition wall was difficult to use. The room was not being used as intended and only as single room resource therefore costing double the amount to run. The concrete supporting pillar located centrally, was another constraint, posing a problem for students’ line of sight to Tutor and screen. The Huxley also suffered from lack of PC’s and technology based rooms where exams could take place.

AFTER

The University requested a redesign to increase the student desk width, which would then allow the desks to be used in an exam environment.

We also designed and manufactured a removable exam screen that slotted into the desk between each user. Each group of desks has a visual screen mount at either end, to support a 42” screen on which images from the Tutors screen can be viewed by students.

The installation included an underdesk flexible cradle for existing PC towers enabling simple access for technicians, plus monitors and backup power modules. We completed on time and within budget.

The feedback about the i-desk i-rise desks with AV has been very positive. The dual purpose i-Rise desks are very close to being the answer to some of our key challenges to provide the ideal modern classroom.

BEFORE

Laboratory Workspace Design I-LAB The unique i-Lab solution enables clever integration of science, technology, water, gas and fire in one safe highly functional workstation. IT equipment is locked securely within the bench yet easily accessible for maintenance and upgrades. The worktops are made of chemical resistant surfaces with anti-bacterial qualities. Specialist seals and sealants reduce damage caused by leaks and spills. The i-lab range is available in many colours and design options as well as fire-retardant grades.

Case Study / LYÇ E E S C H O O L i-desk Solutions spent several days over many weeks at the school working collaboratively with the Lycée Français project team proposing ideas and solutions which met the brief of a practical, multifunctional, workspace with matching storage that adhered to budgetary constraints.

Along with traditional desk-style benches, the Lycée project team also wanted a collaborative bench that would allow 4 students to work together. i-desk Solutions came up with a unique bespoke quadrangle designed to incorporate 2 PCs and

monitors on one side, with utilities, a sink and storage cupboard on the other.

The science labs have now been transformed into state-of the-art, fitfor-purpose classrooms that provide flexibility in learning, safety from health and safety hazards, and an inspiring space for both students and teachers.

Communication & Public Areas desk designs I-KIOSK AND I-PAS SYSTEMS These public access systems are suitable for; libraries, museums, hospitals, medical centres, restaurants, retail, sports and leisure, airports, rail stations and hotels etc Functions such as a station for an unmanned reception or registration area at an exhibition make an ideal application.

The desk comprises a height adjustable or fixed table top, optional and securely embedded touch LED panel or standard screen and locked down QWERTY keyboard. Visitors simply announce their arrival and receive a sticker or badge printed from the optional embedded printer.

Alternatively, these systems can be used for a number of functions, such as information stations and even pay points including optional biometrics. Each system can be designed to any customer specification, using light, colour and different materials to ensure a very unique and eye-catching look, yet robust enough to handle extreme use.

Integrated technology options I-HEAT TECHNOLOGY is a revolutionary built in heated panel allowing the user to benefit from selfcontrolled warmth radiating from the desk itself. Spot heating is designed to heat the individual, rather than the room. i-heat technology offers a cost efficient way to heat the immediate surroundings whilst keeping staff or pupils comfortable and helps to cut down on those thermostat wars so often witnessed in many offices.

The power consumption is no more than 10% of a conventional heater, air conditioning or radiator. The stable material of the desk conserves its shape and properties when heated so the desk will remain looking stunning after many years of use. i-heat technology can be used in a number of the ddb desk designs, including i-poppy, i-rise, and i-desk.

A wide range of colours are available along with a choice of table tops and technology options.

FINISHES A choice of surfaces, materials and colours are key to making a well-designed desk become an individual piece of furniture. Adding a range of technology options will instantly give it the wow factor!

The i-lab desk provides a practical and safe solution by using antibacterial, chemical resistant and waterproof TRESPA ® surfaces. The sleek executive Aerodesk is constructed using the classy and extremely resilient HIMACS finish with some amazing

textures and colour choices. Kydex can be used to mould into almost any shape, allowing for unique designs to be created. The strength of this surface material can withstand heavy duty workloads and is available in many colours. Quality of build and attention to detail is priority so ddb desks are made from sustainable top quality materials sourced in the UK. OPTIONS “Desk jewellery” gives the user all the technology they need at their fingertips, whilst keeping the desk top neat and tidy. Anything is possible on a ddb desk. The options are potentially endless. USB, HDMI and wireless chargers, power sockets, heat or light controls are just some features. Even lock down technology can be fitted so computers or IT devices are safely and securely stored when not in use. ddb will take up the challenge to incorporate any technology or function into a desk top if required.
