A slow-moving cold front resulted in significant rainfall amounts for areas in extreme southwestern Ontario. Severalreports of over 100 mm in the Sarnia area were received via social media, resulting in over 100 reports of flood damageinhomes,andstreetsbeingflooded.
Yet another slow-moving low-pressure system made its way across southern Ontario. Several areas of southwestern Ontario reported two-daytotalrainfallamountsof60-100mm,with afewlocationsreceivingover200mm.Ineastern Ontario, two-day rainfall amounts were generally in the 40-70 mm range. When Cedar Grove Lodge for Senior Citizens and the Chapleau Recreation Centre wereofficiallyopenedbackinJune1978,itwas also an occasion to honour some of Chapleau's distinguishedcitizens.AtCedarGrove, the apartment section was named in honour of Peter Blackburn and Vince Crichton, to be known as the BlackburnCrichton MemorialWing and the drop-in centre as the Mrs. Agnes Freeborn Memorial Elderly PersonsCentre.Mr.BlackburnandMr.Crichton were long-time residents of Chapleau and great supportersofcommunitylife.Mrs.Freebornwas the founding president of the Chapleau Senior CitizensClubwhichhelditsfirstmeetingonthe lawn of the old Chapleau High School in the summerof1973.AttherecreationcentreopeningonJune honourbe29,itwasannouncedthatthearenaportionwouldknownastheMrs.A.W.MooreArenainofMrs.Moore,whowaspresentforthe occasion.
