Another Delegate Hits The Pageant Circuit!
E
rika Smith, a l i f e l o n g resident of Chapleau has been asked by the President of the Miss North Ontario Regional Canada Pageant to represent her community. “I was both shocked and excited when she (Cheryl Kozera, President of MNORCP) asked me if I would like to participate in this pageant”. Erika says she was a little apprehensive at first, but once she found out
what the pageant was all about, she jumped right in. This is not a beauty pageant, but rather an educational experience, an event to help promote tourism in the north, and support Northern Ontario Charities. This pageant will draw anywhere from 40 – 50 delegates from all across the north, and will be held in Sudbury in early May. Several participants from this pageant will then have the opportunity to represent Northern
Ontario at the Miss Teen World Canada Pageant and ultimately the Miss Universe Canada Pageant. Each participant in the pageant is asked to seek out sponsors for their journey to Sudbury. In the very near future, Erika will be knocking on the doors of local businesses, organizations and residents looking for their support. In return, all sponsors will have their names or advertisements placed in the pageant's program, which will help showcase Chapleau. She says she is excited to represent Chapleau, and let the rest of the north know what our town has to offer. Having worked at her family's business for the past 4 years, she sees just how impor-
tant tourism is to this town, and the need to encourage more people to visit here. One of the charities that the pageant sponsors is the Northern Ontario Families of Children w i t h C a n c e r (NOFCC). Prior to the pageant, each delegate is required to host a charity event in their hometown with all the proceeds going to NOFCC. Having played hockey in Chapleau for most of her life, Erika has chosen to host a charity Hockey Game at the Chapleau Moore Arena on Saturday November 30th at 7:30 pm, which will see the Chapleau Chicks Midget Team playing against a select team from both the local Fire Department and the OPP Detachment.
“I really hope as many people as possible can come out and help sponsor this worthwhile cause, and see some exciting hockey at the same time”. For those unable to attend
the game but still wish to make a donation, a jar will be set up at Miss Muggins for your convenience. Watch for further details in this edition of the Express.
