Probe Mines and Reliant Gold Agree to Terms of Joint Venture with Respect to the Borden Lake South Property

P

robe Mines Limited is pleased to announce that it has agreed to the principal commercial terms for a joint venture agreement with Reliant Gold Inc. with respect to Reliant's Borden Lake South Property, located in Chapleau, Ontario.

The principal commercial terms of the joint venture are as follows: Probe and Reliant will have a 51% interest and a 49% interest, respectively, in

the joint venture; Probe will make a cash payment of $200,000 and issue 100,000 common shares of Probe to Reliant upon the execution and delivery by the parties of a definitive joint venture agreement; Probe will be responsible for maintaining the Property in good standing until the earlier of (i) the completion of a bankable feasibility study with respect to the Property; and (ii) the date which is five years from the date of the execution and delivery by the parties of a definitive joint venture agreement; Probe will be responsible for funding 100% of the joint venture until the earlier of (i) the delivery of a positive bankable feasibility study with

respect to the Property

by Probe to Reliant; and (ii) the date which is five years from the date of the execution and delivery by the parties of a definitive joint venture agreement; on delivery of a positive bankable feasibility study with respect to the Property

by Probe to Reliant on or prior to the date which is five years from the date of the execution and delivery by the parties of a definitive joint venture agreement, Probe will earn an additional 24% interest in the joint venture increasing its interest to 75% and, thereafter, Probe and Reliant will be responsible for the costs of maintaining the Property in good standing and funding the joint venture as to 75% and 25%, respectively; and if a positive bankable feasibility study with respect to the Property is not delivered by Probe to Reliant on or prior to the date which is five years from the date of the execution and delivery by the parties of a definitive joint venture agreement, the interests of the parties in the joint venture will be fixed at 51% and a 49% for Probe and Reliant, r e s p e c t i v e l y, a n d , thereafter, the parties will be responsible for the costs of maintaining

the Property in good standing and funding the joint venture in those percentages.

The Borden Lake South Property comprises 20 mining claims representing 294 claim units covering approximately 4,704 hectares, located 10 kilometres east of the Town of Chapleau, Ontario and adjacent to Probe's 100%-owned Borden Gold Project.

Dr. David Palmer, President and CEO of Probe, states "We are very pleased

with the acquisition of our 51% interest in the Borden Lake South P r o p e r t y. I t i s a n excellent fit with our strategy to consolidate the Borden Belt. Probe controls over 400 square kilometers of virtually unexplored ground in Ontario's newest gold district and we see significant potential for additional gold discoveries in this area."

The joint venture is subject to the execution and delivery by the parties of a

definitive joint venture agreement by no later than March 20, 2014 and the receipt of all necessary board and regulatory approvals.

The joint venture is being entered into as a variation to the existing relationship between Probe and Reliant with respect to the Property under an option agreement made effective as of the 12th day of March, 2012 pursuant to which Probe has an option to acquire up to a 70% interest in the Property.

and underfunded items that were dismissed in order to build a huge surplus for the Conservatives to spend just ahead of a federal election.

OBITUARY Lorraine Deliah (Burns) Bradley Mimi's Story: On what one can only assume was a cold, January day in 1924, the nineteenth to be exact, a baby girl was welcomed to parents Jean N. and Alberta (Lafrance) Burns in Chapleau, Ontario.

Lorraine was one of 13 children: Marion, Jeanne, Albert, Jean, Yvonne, Beatrice, Victor, Roland, Edmond, Gerard, Patrick (all predeceased) and Yvette and Raymond. In her later days, Lorraine spent many an occasion reminiscing about those days in Chapleau. She told vivid stories of being sent out to pick berries with her cousins after church, and big, multi-family Sunday dinners outside. As a family they did not have much, as was the case for most in those times, but she was happy and loved, surrounded by family. As a young lady she found love at first sight upon meeting Lionel Alfred Bradley, a dashing young man from Sudbury who lost his heart in Lorraine's eyes. They were soon wed in a modest ceremony and began what ended up being over fifty four years of marriage. As with any marriage they had their highs and lows, but the greatest of their highs were to be their children and granddaughters. They were blessed with three boys, Donald, Marc and Patrick, who married three ladies, Greta, Suzelle and Lynn, who went on to gift them with Kristin, Stacey, Lindsey, Danielle, Jaimee, Kaleigh and Sarah. There are young great-grands as well, Hannah, Matthew, Brady, Riley, Sophie, Alexie, Sam and Dominique, who were so loved by their Mimi. As the children and grandchildren of this hard-working and often hard-headed woman, we would like to express how proud we are of our Mimi, and how much we loved our matriarch. She always told us how proud she was of her family.

As devout Roman Catholics, she and Pappa instilled values of respect, love and good humour while working hard to raise their family. There was always laughter in their house when we were all together. They bought and built, over the years, two camps in the French River and spent many a summer building, renovating, fixing and maintaining them. Mimi loved the camp and she loved her garden! It stretched from the road to the camp and across half as wide. She could always be found tending to the rows upon rows of food, and in the fall she was canning, pickling and freezing all of it to rest in one of their three freezers. She was a talented seamstress, making bridesmaid and prom dresses and many, many Barbie and Cabbage Patch Doll outfits. And, above all, she was a comfort food chef extraordinaire, cooking up traditional French Canadian bounty at Christmas and New Year's Day, enough to fill the table with everything from meatpies, peroghies, garden grown veggies and homemade bread, and desserts like pies and her famous cinnamon buns and cookies. All of these memories we will cherish forever. We will miss the loving glances and her beautiful bright smile. We will miss how she would spill her wine while talking with her hands. We will miss her wanting to boycott a store for not offering a rain check on a sale! We will miss her stubborn way of always wanting to pay us back for the groceries we picked up on the way to visit! We will miss her laughter. And we will miss her supportive hugs.

Mimi left us on Sunday, March 16th, 2014, after 90 years with us, to finally be reunited with the love of her life, Lionel. May God keep you safely in his arms, Mimi. We will love you always.

Hughes opened by reading a message from a senior who, despite working, has difficulty meeting basic needs like food and heat while struggling to pay for medication and eye glasses. Hughes says seniors are not alone in their struggles and the budget truly does nothing to make things better.

“We should not be slapping the Finance Minister on the back when all that he has really done is dismiss so much need in the pursuit of a single goal designed to benefit the Conservative Party of Canada alone,” said Hughes.

T h e M P explained that in addition to dismissing the plight of impoverished seniors the budget cut back funding to disability organizations, cut targeted tax initiatives to help small business hire new employees, and ignored Northern Ontario altogether.

“People in the region were left to wonder if they are even on the Conservatives radar at all,” said

Hughes. “They had good reason to wonder, since there was no mention of Northern Ontario, or its economic development agency FEDNOR, at all.”

H u g h e s explained how tight household budgets in the North aren’t getting any real relief in the budget which makes it sound like high gas prices will receive attention, but loses most consumers in the details.

“In Northern Ontario high gas prices are a constant problem and New Democrats have long advocated an ombudsman to ensure that consumers are not being gouged at the tank,” said Hughes.

“While there is some recognition of gas price disparity in the budget,

the focus is on cross border disparity and even that is nothing more than vague language with no details or timelines.”

Hughes also raised the decision to underfund the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation program and to further delay addressing chronically underfunded First Nations schools as additional examples of the way a surplus is being built. “ D e s p i t e changing their tune on First Nations education, this government has taken a page from the Liberal Playbook which amounts to strong language with distant commitments, but precious few dollars,” said Hughes.

CPR shops renovations underway in 1950 for diesel maintenance centre at Chapleau

Chapleau Moments by Michael J. Morris Work was being "pushed forward rapidly" in the Spring of 1950 on the changeover of the Canadian Pacific Railway shops at Chapleau to accommodate diesel powered trains that would operate out of Chapleau, according to the Chapleau Post.

I n f a c t Chapleau seemed to be a beehive of activity as the second half of the 20th century got underway with the new sewage plant and system, a new arena, post office, housing and the Smith and Chapple expansion on the "other side" of Main Street, either completed or underway.

In the next 10 years there was most assuredly a spirit of optimism about the future of the community.

The Chapleau Winter Carnivals were revived shortly after the memorial arena was opened in 1951.

Following the disastrous 1948 forest fire, new lumber

companies arrived in the area, including J.E. Martels and Sons Lumber Ltd.and A and L Lafreniere Ltd and others.

Chapleau also expected to be on the Trans Canada Highway, and Highway 129 had been completed to Thessalon in 1949.

A delegation from Chapleau led by R e e v e B . W. ' B u b s ' Zufelt including members of the Chapleau Board of Trade had even chartered a plane for trip to Timmins to discuss the highway between the two communities.

The CPR was spending more than $250,000, a very significant investment in 1950 dollars to renovate the shops to create a diesel maintenance centre.

Ian Macdonald has noted that during the transition between diesel and steam power Chapleau was well positioned as a major maintenance centre.

The Chapleau Post story explained

that once the renovations were completed to meet the requirements of dieselization they would be major service centre between North Bay and the Lakehead. " T h r e e l a rg e power shovels were at work on the job moving rubble made by the smashing down of walls and unloading gravel for cement work," as part of the shop renovations the Chapleau Post reported.

It added that come the next winter, only passenger trains would be using steam power, ending at least in part, complaints by Chapleau citizens about the "smoke nuisance".

Before dryers became common in homes, clothes were put on a line outside to dry, and often, or so it seemed, as soon as they were hung to dry, a layer of soot would cover them from the CPR operations.

S c h o o l adjourned early to allow students of all ages to join the large crowd of citizens viewing this important event. It seemed like everybody in town was there, and maybe they were.

H o w e v e r, b y 1960 when total dieselization of the CPR system had been completed unfortu-

nately the need for the Chapleau maintenance facilities ended, and workers were transferred to other areas, although some remained in Chapleau and took up other occupations.

Those were really great years to be growing up in Chapleau. Just to jog memories I have included a photo of the 1950-51 Grades 5 and 6 class at Chapleau Public taught by my mother Muriel E (Hunt) Morris, from the Ian Macdonald collection. I know some

of the folks in it, but how about sending me an email identifying them. My email is mj.morris@live.ca ERRATA: Mark Dillon contacted me to advise that his father Jimmy Dillon, who I wrote was a veteran of World War II was "too young" to join the armed forces. It was his brother Robert.

Accountability is best assured by dismissing scrutiny.

That is the message the Harper government inadvertently makes every time they rush legislation through the House of Commons.

How else can they justify their incredible run of closure used on debate?

The sad fact is the Conservatives set a new record for Canadian politics every time they shut down debate. The record

increased again when the Conservatives called votes for closure on two bills at the exact momen t the Ch ief Electoral Officer was speaking about the ‘Fair Elections Act’ at committee. It disrupted his presentation and showed how classless this government can be.

P e r h a p s closure is being used because in the Conservative’s twisted logic, democracy will suffer if parliament is able to

study and debate a bill that is supposed to improve elections. In addition to invoking closure on debate and intentionally disrupting the most expert testimony they will ever hear on their bill, the Conservatives set parliamentary precedent by voting to ignore the Speaker’s ruling about one of their Members who flat-out lied to the House of Commons in a speech on the Elections Act. In that instance C o n s e r v a t i v e M P, Brad Butt claimed he has witnessed other people picking voter cards out of the garbage and going to use them to vote. That turned out to be a complete fabrication

and the MP apologized only after being caught. The Speaker ruled he had breached the privilege of other MPs, but the Conservatives voted down the ruling. They say his apology is enough.

That misses the point on a number of fronts. First, an apology after being caught is not acceptable genuine or honest.

Second, the lie was devised to perpetrate a Conservative myth that voter fraud is rampant in Canada when the facts do not bear that out.

B y p r e m aturely shutting down debate it is clear that the Conservatives are eager to pass their changes to the Elections Act before

Canadians become engaged on the subject. Why else would they vote down the New Democrat attempt to include broad public consultation in the process?

Clearly, they are afraid to listen to and trust Canadians on this issue.

Perhaps they are afraid the public will see through their plans to use a loophole they are creating for fundraising expenses to spend unlimited amounts in the next election. The vague definition given to what is considered fundraising is most useful for a party that reaped huge amounts of cash with the help of now-disgraced Senators, Mike Duffy and

Pamela Wallin.

The changes in the ‘Fair Elections Act’ make it easier for the Conservatives to overspend and harder for impoverished, young, or aboriginal Canadians to show up and vote. The changes make it more difficult for Elections Canada to promote elections too. What is missing in the bill is an effective plan to deal with the real problems from recent elections. Those are voter suppression which relates to the robo-calls scandal and over-spending like we saw from the in-out scandal. Both those problems can be linked directly to the Conservatives for whom accountability is a flexible term.

En 2008, la GRC a exécuté une descente au siège du Parti conservateur en lien avec des accusations selon lesquelles le Parti s’était servi des campagnes locales pour dissimuler le coût de la publicité nationale. En plus, il y a eu les appels automatisés pendant la campagne électorale de 2011, le dépassement du plafond des dépenses qui a annulé le résultat au Labrador, et, plus récemment, plusieurs a c c u s a t i o n s d’irrégularités

financières contre la campagne de l’ancien secrétaire parlementaire du Premier ministre.

Bien que tous les partis aient fait l’objet d’enquêtes de la part d’Élections Canada, en fait de nombre et de gravité, ce sont les conservateurs plus souvent que les autres.

Cela permet de comprendre pourquoi ils apportent des changements qui limiteront la capacité du directeur général des élections de faire des déclarations publiques, qui augmenteront les

plafonds des dépenses tout en excluant les frais de collecte de fonds du plafond, et qui élimineront l’utilisation de répondants, un processus qui permet aux personnes n’ayant pas reçu de carte d’information de l’électeur de voter.

Les conservateurs veulent également accélérer le processus d’adoption du projet de loi et restreindre la possibilité pour les Canadiens d’exprimer leur avis pendant son étude en comité. Si cela vous paraît foncièrement antidémocratique, vous n’êtes pas seuls. Les néo-démocrates font tout leur possible pour faire prolonger les réunions de comité et en assurer la tenue dans toutes les régions du Canada. Les enjeux sont trop importants pour faire autrement, surtout quand le projet de loi a pour effet de conférer tous les avantages du terrain aux conservateurs.

On comprend aisément pourquoi les conservateurs veulent précipiter le processus.

Si les Canadiens sont consultés, ils exprimeront sans doute haut et fort leur opposition à des mesures qui favorisent les conservateurs en augmentant les sommes que les donateurs nantis peuvent verser tout en rendant l’exercice du vote plus difficile pour ceux qui sont moins susceptibles de les appuyer. Il me paraît important de faire remarquer que si les conservateurs ont lancé une invitation générale pour obtenir les commentaires du public sur de nouvelles dispositions législatives en matière de prostitution, ils n’ont invité aucun commentaire sur ces changements.

La suppression de votes consiste à employer des stratégies pour influencer le résultat d’une élection en dissuadant ou en empêchant des personnes d’exercer leur droit de vote. Interdire le recours à un répondant aura un tel effet en empêchant un nombre disproportionné d’électeurs jeunes et démunis de voter – des

groupes qui n’ont pas tendance à appuyer les conservateurs. Nous pourrions peut-être tirer une leçon de la lutte amère qu’ont vécue nos voisins américains en Pennsylvanie récemment dans un dossier très semblable.

Si nous prenons la peine de l’entendre, le directeur juridique de l’American Civil Liberties Union de la Pennsylvanie nous met fermement en garde contre les modifications proposées dans la « Loi sur l’intégrité des élections ».

En plus, les changements proposés empêcheront Élections Canada de s’exprimer publiquement sur la démocratie et l’importance de voter, d’effectuer des recherches et de mobiliser les Canadiens dans le cadre de projets comme la Semaine de la d é m o c r a t i e e t Vo t e étudiant. À l’heure où la participation électorale est en déclin, ça n’a pas de sens. Il n’est pas étonnant que le projet de loi ait reçu un nom souriant.

CALL TO ACTION: Speak out for Green Renewable Jobs in Ontario NOMA, FONOM, and OFIA do not support Bill 83- Freedom to Slander T h e N o r t hwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA), the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM), and the Ontario Forest Industries Association (OFIA) are concerned about Bill 83, Protection of Public Participation Act, 2014 and its

potential impacts to Ontario's sustainable forestry sector, which employs 150,000 people in this province.

The sector has overcome enormous challenges and now in 2014 is showing positive signs of rebound. This is not the time to allow radical special interest groups

a shield to hide behind as they spread false information about the job creators in Ontario.

Ontario Nature released an action alert entitled -Your Right to Speak up for a Healthy Environment is in J e o p a r d y. O n t a r i o Nature and others are fear mongering - they are creating a crisis

where none exists.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario is a world leader in sustainable forestry and is committed to balancing environmental protection with sustainable forest management.

D a v i d C a nfield, Mayor of Kenora and President of

NOMA stated, "There is no clear evidence that legitimate expression is being impaired in this province. Our current justice system provides ample protection to individuals expressing legitimate freedom of speech as well as to individuals and companies who rely on the law to protect their reputations against slander."

A r e c e n t Supreme Court ruling proves that lawsuits cannot be used to suppress legitimate expressions. There is no need for Bill 83.

There is however, e v i d e n c e o f Greenpeace previously misleading the public and making false claims against a forestry company operating in Ontario. It is not surprising that Greenpeace also strongly supports this bill.

Alan Spacek, Mayor of Kapuskasing and President of FONOM said, "We believe that this legislation will create a climate in which radical activist groups can make false claims about a range of industries on which our communities depend upon, while enjoying protection from any legal opposition."

Jamie Lim, President and CEO of the OFIA commented, "The OFIA will always support freedom of speech. We do not, h o w e v e r, s u p p o r t freedom to slander with n o a c c o u n t a b i l i t y.

Forestry, a renewable resource, is an important aspect of Northern and rural Ontario and we must stand up to protect green jobs. Bill 83 threatens the livelihood of hardworking Ontarians."

Mentors come in all shapes and sizes.

They could be managing million-dollar companies or have decades of experience running local convenience stores. They may be experts in law, accounting, or marketing. They could be leading a not-for-profit organization or work as professionals for the government. Many Canadians have

experience and skills that are relevant to someone in the start-up phase of their business.

The organization reports that since 1997, more than 3,000 volunteer mentors have successfully guided more than 5,600 young CYBF entrepreneurs through their crucial early stages – and is currently recruiting new mentors to support Canada's next wave of young business leaders.

It only requires four to five hours per month and a commitment of up to two years.

Anyone with time to give, plus a successful

track record in their business sector, is welcome.

“The business needs of young entrepreneurs are as diverse as the mentors themselves,” says Linda Morana, CYBF Mentor in Residence. “Professionals looking to give back while using their unique skills and experiences, and acquiring new ones, are sure to find it mutually rewarding.”

On Wednesday, February 26th, 2014 the ADSB, Chapleau Elementary & Secondary School and the

community of Chapleau participated in Pink Shirt Day by wearing pink or “Bullying Stops Here”

t-shirts. Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 after two Nova Scotia teenagers encouraged their fellow male students to wear

pink T-shirts in support of a grade nine male pupil who was being bullied for wearing pink on the first day of school. Since then, schools, businesses and communities across Canada have recogn i z e d t h i s d a y.

Chapleau Elementary & Secondary School's Principal Nicolle Schuurman was very pleased with the overwhelming response by the local business & community partners once again this year. This community wide endeavor was originally organized by former Chapleau High

NEWS FROM THE PARK BY Mike Mantha Provincial Member of Parliament for Algoma-Manitoulin

This week marked another constituency week where I had the opportunity to tour the riding and offer clinics. I visited several communities in the northwestern part of the riding and heard many of your concerns.

Unfortunately things are not improving for many families.

Affordability continues

to be of major concern and the cost of living continues to rise.

People continue to be outraged with the skyrocketing costs of hydro. My colleagues and I have introduced measures that will help to alleviate some of these costs. The current liberal government doesn't seem to be listening to Ontarians

and continues to subsidize electricity exports to the United States. Executive pay is at an all-time high and consumers are not seeing any of the benefits from our power generation and sales.

We will continue to pressure the government to stop burdening Ontario's taxpayers with these unnecessary costs.

Wi n t e r r o a d conditions continue to raise concerns for motorists. We have seen the government start to fine contractors however there are many areas in AlgomaManitoulin which continue to receive poor

s er v ice an d th is is putting folks in danger.

I spend much of my time driving these highways and know first-hand the state of our roads; this is the outcome of continued privatization. We need to put the safety of Ontarians first.

This week Premier Wynne seems to be back peddling on tax increases. Our leader Andrea Horwath has clearly been setting the agenda and my colleagues under her leadership will continue to put the priorities of middle class families' front and center. The government commissioned a report and the

panel recommended a series of possible tax hikes including a 5 or 10 cent a liter gas tax, increased HST in conjunction with a modest corporate tax increase.

It is clear that P r e m i e r Wy n n e i s scrambling to distance herself from her own policies because she knows that families will not support them.

Voters will not soon forget the series of broken liberal promises. They liberals promised not to introduce the HST, then introduced HST. They promised to freeze hydro rates, and then hiked hydro rates. They

promised to reduce auto insurance rates, and then rates went up. This is the liberal way.

N e w D e m ocrats are listening to Ontarians and introducing policies that actually make life more affordable for working families, and we will continue to do this going forward.

Senior volunteers get unexpected health benefits

(NC) More than 1.8 million Canadian senior citizens volunteer because they want to give back and make an impact in their communities. Researchers have found that these seniors are getting much more than they expected:

improved health as compared to those seniors who don't volunteer.

“When retirees give their time to others, their social networks and support systems increase and there's also an increase in their

happiness, energy and vitality,” says Dr. Ben Gottlieb, a University of Guelph psychology professor who has been researching the positive health benefits of volunteering among seniors. “They experience better cardiovascular function, less arthritis pain, better lung function, lower stress, anxiety and depression and have an overall increase in selfesteem and sense of value.”

Leona Darling, 75, has been volunteering for the past 23 years.

Her volunteer career started when she responded to an ad in the paper looking for Hospice volunteers and she has been with the organization ever since.

“When I started volunteering, I owned a business that required me to use a very specific set of skills so I sought opportunities that would allow me to learn new skills or maintain skills I wasn't using in my job,” she explains from her home in Guelph, Ontario. “For the past 16 years, I have been providing one-toone grief support for individuals who have requested help from Hospice after they have lost a loved one. By listening to my clients, they have a safe, confidential place to voice their concerns. I feel what I do matters and get a lot of personal satisfaction out of it.

I've actually been told I was a life saver and

there is no greater compliment.”

Since retiring, Darling has taken on a second volunteer job with Chalmers Community Service Centre where she has seen the health benefits of volunteering in her p e e r s . “ We h a v e a number of 80-year-old volunteers who are keeping young and active because they are out there giving back instead of sitting at home. Many people don't believe they're 80 because of their physical ability and sharp brains,” she said.

A 2005 study

found that seniors who volunteered at least two hours per week (100 hours annually) showed slower declines in selfreported health and physical functioning, and lower mortality rates than those who did not volunteer.

I n 2 0 1 0 , Canadian seniors c o l l e c t i v e l y v o l u nteered more than 372 million hours, according to Statistics Canada.

Many of them say they hear about volunteer opportunities through family, friends, volunteer centres and online at volunteer.ca.

Social Entrepreneurship Evolution de l'entrepreneuriat social (SEE), a crosscultural collaborative that works alongside diverse youth in Northern Ontario announced a design contest for individuals aged 18-35 in Northern Ontario to create a new, dynamic logo for the initiative.

The logo design competition is open to current students, recent graduates and young professionals residing in Northern Ontario.

The purpose is to design a logo for SEE that will then be used online, in print and in the media. The winner will be chosen by We d n e s d a y A p r i l 30th, 2014 and will receive a $500 honorarium along with coverage in Northern Ontario Business and other online communication platforms. “ W e a r e
