She has now expanded her roster to include water bottles, pop cans and pop bottles to her roster - as long as they are not crushed. Diane's Dream has now raised and disbursed $4000 in just the last 8 months. ÉSC Trillium will offer Hockey Canada Skills Academy Program starting in September 2026

tarting in the 2026-2027 school year, École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) will proudly offer the Hockey Canada Skills Academy (HCSA) program. This new specialized program, offered for the first time in Chapleau, will give both girls and boys with a passion for hockey the opportunity to develop their skills within the school day.

The HCSA Program will be part of the grade 7 to 12 Physical Education course and delivered by certified and experienced ÉSC Trillium staff. Aiming to enhance students' educational experience by integrating hockey into the school day, this program will help participants strengthen confidence and self-esteem while offering opportunities for both academic and athletic development. The AHHC program will enable students to build their skills in the classroom and on the ice.

L’ÉSC Trillium offrira le programme « Académie des habiletés Hockey Canada » dès septembre 2026 C’est avec fierté que l’École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) offrira le programme Académie des habiletés Hockey Canada (AHHC) dès l’année scolaire 20262027. Ce nouveau programme spécialisé, offert pour la première fois dans la communauté de Chapleau, permettra aux filles et aux garçons ayant une passion pour le hockey de développer leurs compétences dans le cadre de la journée scolaire.

Le programme AHHC s’insérera dans le cours d’Éducation physique des élèves participants de la 7e à la 12e année et sera livré par des membres du personnel certifiés et expérimentés de l’ÉSC Trillium. Des élèves inscrits dans ce nouveau programme pourront développer leurs habiletés techniques sur glace au Centre récréatif de Chapleau. De plus, ils profiteront d’un entraînement spécialisé qui comprendra des sessions de conditionnement hors glace. En 2026-2027, le programme pourra admettre 20 participants au coût de 300 $ par élève. Ces frais serviront à débourser certains coûts, dont la location de la patinoire et l’équipement.

Ayant pour but de rehausser l’expérience pédagogique des élèves en intégrant le hockey à

Individual Fined More Than $5,700 for Causing a ÉSC Trillium will offer Hockey Canada Skills Wildland Fire Through Unsafe Burning Practices Academy Program starting in September 2026 An individual from Southern Ontario has been fined and ordered to pay over $5,700 after unsafe burning practices caused a wildland fire: Geoffrey Larden of Gravenhurst pleaded guilty to failing to tend a fire under the Forest Fires Prevention Act. He was ordered to pay the Province of Ontario $5,716.82 as partial compensation for the costs incurred to extinguish the fire.

The Ontario Court of Justice heard that on August 4, 2025, a wildland fire was reported adjacent to a cottage located on Gull Lake in the Town of Gravenhurst. No individuals were present at the cottage. Fire crews from the Town of Gravenhurst responded and began suppression efforts until an airborne fire crew from the Ministry of Natural Resources arrived to take over.

The fire was determined to be humancaused, and a subsequent investigation took place. The investigation determined that on July 31, Larden, the cottage owner, had a fire where wood debris was burned on the forest floor and not within a designated fire pit. Investments will strengthen Canada’s east-west trade corridors, support domestic supply chains and create jobs in northwestern Ontario The Thunder Bay Port Authority (TBPA) is receiving $804,955 in NOHFC funding to expand its staging and storage area at Keefer Terminal by 10 acres, increasing its capacity for goods such as wind turbine parts, steel and oversized cargo. The expansion will allow the TBPA to increase cargo volumes and retain existing business, while reinforcing Thunder Bay’s role as a resilient and competitive gateway for interprovincial and international trade.

With over 10.7 million metric tonnes of cargo, including grain, potash and natural resources, moving through its facilities in 2025, and the vast majority shipping domestically or to international markets other than the U.S., the Port of Thunder Bay is one of Canada’s critical inland ports and a gateway to western Canada and Europe. Ontario Takes Action to Build Critical Minerals Supply Chain Province backing 18 new projects to boost Canadian sovereignty and jobs in the face of U.S. tariffs TIMMINS – As part of its plan to protect Ontario and build a stronger, more competitive and self-reliant economy, the government is taking action to secure the critical minerals supply chain needed to power the economy of the future. Following the release of Premier Ford's Fortress North America Strategy that prioritizes reliable, democratic supply chains over foreign adversaries, Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines, was joined by George Pire, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth, at the Canadian Mining Expo to announce that the Ontario government is investing nearly $8 million in 18 innovative projects through the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund (CMIF).

This plan will accelerate homegrown technologies, strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals. These projects are expected to leverage $12.3 million in private-sector funding to accelerate the research, development and commercialization of made-in-Ontario technologies to help strengthen the province's position as a global leader by ensuring critical minerals mined in Ontario are processed and refined in Ontario, by Ontario workers.

“Premier Ford launched Fortress North America designed to strengthen the resilience of Ontario's mineral sector as we work to strengthen democratic alliances as we face a common threat from China,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines. "In order to secure the resources essential for advanced manufacturing, energy security, and national defence, Ontario is stepping up with a plan to build mines faster and invest in made-in-Ontario innovation. We will bring further reform this year to build on our government's accelerated permitting and the launch of the Critical Mineral Innovation Fund, securing Ontario's position as Canada's top destination for mining investment.”

This latest round of CMIF funding supports a wide range of projects including: · $500,000 to Vale Canada Limited to develop ClearZone, Canada's first in-field robotic arm system for underground mines, automating hazardous debris removal to

enhance worker safety, reduce operational downtime and advance mine automation. · $400,000 to Destiny Copper Inc. to scale up its patented low-energy process that transforms mining and industrial byproducts into high-purity copper powder, establishing Canada's first continuous copper powder production plant and strengthening domestic supply for our EV and advanced manufacturing industries. · $262,500 to Rock Tech Lithium to validate the use of crude tall oil, a pulp and paper byproduct, as a low-cost, low-emission flotation reagent for lithium processing, creating cleaner battery supply chains while opening new markets for Ontario's forestry sector.

Since its launch in 2022, the CMIF has invested in 47 strategic projects that are transforming Ontario's mining and minerals sector from extraction to processing and advanced manufacturing. By helping companies commercialize breakthrough technologies, the fund is a tangible action to position the province as a global mineral powerhouse.

The CMIF is a key initiative in the government's plan to update its Critical Minerals Strategy to position the province as a reliable global supplier of responsibly sourced critical minerals and build fully integrated, made-inOntario supply chains. The 2 most dangerous things on the water (NC) On a waterway, everything can change in an instant. That’s all it takes for two boats to collide, for you to run up on a shoal or to hit a swimmer. It’s why operating a boat is such an important responsibility.

Unfortunately, over 100 people die in recreational boating accidents in an average year in Canada, according to the Drowning Prevention Research Centre. Boating safely requires proper preparation before leaving the dock, but once out on the water, you still aren’t in the clear. Here are two of the biggest factors Transport Canada identifies as causing accidents: Operating while impaired Whenever you operate a boat, you’re responsible for the safety of your guests and other people using the waterway. Boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs compromises your ability to assess and avoid hazards. It’s a danger to yourself and others, and it’s illegal.

Mixing alcohol and drugs with boating is far more dangerous than many people realize.

Even if you haven’t had anything, fatigue, sun, wind and the motion of the boat may still dull your senses. Adding in alcohol and drugs intensifies these effects, reducing your fine motor skills and impairing your judgement further.

The legal consequences can be severe and can also vary by province and territory.

Going too fast Even if you’re completely sober, it’s still essential to give yourself time to react. Operating above a safe speed puts yourself, your passengers and other boaters at risk. Having to stop or turn suddenly to avoid a collision is more difficult and more dangerous the faster you’re going.

What a safe speed looks like often depends on the conditions. Here are some things to consider: What’s the visibility? Darkness, mist, rain and fog all make it much harder to see faraway boats and hazards.

Is anything affecting your movement? High winds, choppy water and strong currents all impact how safely you can manoeuvre at speed.

How does your boat handle? Different boats manoeuvre differently, and how much weight you have onboard has a significant effect.

How’s the traffic? A busy channel, especially with large vessels, means more chances for a collision with less room to avoid one unless you reduce your speed.
