CHS/ESCHS 100th High School Reunion By Margaret Fortin veryone was ready to celebrate. For more than two years we've been forced to stay away from each other, so former students and spouses, teachers and interested folks in general, were looking forward to returning to Chapleau to meet up with old friends. The town was alive with activity. Beginning with registration in the arena foyer on Friday, July 1st, we ran into a former colleague and his wife whom we haven't seen for years. Heading into the Community Hall we met a niece and her partner from B.C. whom we hadn't seen since she left after university, and had lunch with them availing ourselves of food prepared by the Oddfellows. Down at the beach area, events were opened with the beautiful rendition of O Canada sung by Keiko Larocque and Sienna Lortie. Everyone was enjoying the beautiful day and were partaking in available activities whether it was a plane ride, bingo, food prepared by the Rebeccas, children playing in the foam and bouncy castles, or enjoying a beverage at The Hub patio with renewed friends, and, of course, the famous duck race. Friday evening saw the official opening ceremony at the arena, then music was provided by Bizick. The Legion had a tribute CCR band playing in the main hall with full attendance, while downstairs and outside patio were hopping as well. The Hub was busy as ever. When our daughter came into town around eleven that night she purposely rode down Pine Street to see if anything was going on. She wasn't disappointed. The fireworks had just ended and people were stopped chatting on the streets and the Legion and The Hub were still humming. She said it was so nice to see Chapleau so alive. By Saturday, everyone attending was probably here, and the official number of people registered was 678. But many other people came who did not go to high school so Long Term the count is probably a lot higher than that. On Forecast Saturday afternoon the high school halls were Thursday High 21 filled with former students reminiscing and Low 9 checking out their old lockers. Friday Saturday night at the arena was the big event. High 22 Even though the band that was supposed to Low 15 perform didn't arrive, Bizick filled in....God bless

Bizick....and guests were able to visit and reconnect through the evening. In fact, when we first arrived around nine o'clock, there was a steady hum of conversation as soon as you opened the door to the ice surface. Loved it. Saw so many former students and friends throughout the evening. Everyone was happy. It will probably be some time before Chapleau will see a similar event. But we will all have fond memories to carry us though to the next one. An undertaking like this does not occur without LOTS of planning. Many, many kudos go out to the organizing committee.
