OntarioStrengtheningAgri-Food ValueChaininNorthernOntario Provincial investment helping expand agri-food networks

TheOntariogovernmentisprovidingupto $100,000totheNorthernOntarioFarmInnovation Alliance (NOFIA) to study, assess and grow the network of agri-food producers, processors, distributors,procurers,andconsumersinNorthern Ontario.

“NOFIAisuniquelypositionedtoexamine wayswecanestablishastrongeragri-foodindustry in the region,” said Lisa Thompson, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “This investment will equip businesses in Northern Ontario with critical information to help farmers andagri-foodbusinessesexpandtheirmarketreach andbuildastrongersupplychain.”

Through this investment, NOFIA will conductresearchandcasestudies,compilemarket strategies, host business networking sessions and developworkshopsthatwillresultin:

· a directory of food producers across the northernregion

· a best practice guide for local food procurementpracticesforremotecommunities

· marketing support to increase the consumption and availability of local food in northernandremotecommunities

· resources that support food literacy in NorthernOntario

· business-to-business meetings and tours thatencouragenewmarketopportunities.

Inspection

Inspection of Approved Insect Pest Management Program for the Abitibi River, Gordon Cosens, Pineland, Romeo Malette, Spanish and Timiskaming Forests

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) invites you to view the MNRF-approved insect pest management program and inspect the project description and project plan for specific aerial insecticide projects to control the Spruce Budworm infestation on the Abitibi River, Gordon Cosens, Pineland, Romeo Malette, Spanish, and Timiskaming Forests in the Chapleau-Wawa, Hearst-Cochrane-Kapuskasing, Timmins-Kirkland Lake, and Sudbury Districts. Based upon the analysis of the pest management options, the MNRF has approved a course of action that includes the aerial spray of insecticide on selected forest stands, starting on or about May 18, 2023 – June 18, 2023.

The approved project description and project plan for the aerial insecticide project can be obtained on the Natural Resources Information Portal at https://nrip.mnr.gov.on.ca/s/fmp-online beginning April 18, 2023.

These approved documents will remain available for public viewing until March 31, 2024 when the Annual Work Schedule expires.
