U15 Chapleau Huskies Win NOHA “A” Division Tournament of Champions and Qualify for All-Ontario's! By: Gwen McKnight hen the Chapleau Huskies travelled to Kapuskasing for the A Division Tournament of Champions the expectations were high. Coming off an undefeated regular season every team in the tournament knew the Huskies were the team to beat, and a trip to the Ontario Provincial Championships was on the line. The Huskies started pool play with a matchup against the Sudbury Timberwolves. Four unanswered goals in the first period by Jordan Martineau, Jack Cyr, Jake Sanchioni and Cole Ellis gave the Huskies a strong start. During the second period Fynn Manttari and Kyston Stevens added two more to the tally before Sudbury scored with 5 minutes left in the period. Another scoring run in the third with goals by Sienna Lortie, Jake Sanchioni and two more by Captain Cole Ellis for a hat trick brought the Huskies total to 10, with the Timberwolves scoring a second late in the third period. The Huskies were feeling good going into their second game against the West Nippising Sting, but with only one goal in the first period by Cole Ellis assisted by Braeden Bernath they knew they needed more. Mark Raposo scored for the Huskies early in the second period, but the Long Term Sting were able to claw Forecast their way back with two Thursday High 5 goals in the latter part of Low -3 the second period to leave the game tied Friday High 0 going to intermission. third period, scoring six unanswered goals – three by Cole Ellis for his second hat trick of the tournament, two off the stick of Kyston Stevens assisted by Sienna Lortie and Camden Arsenault and one by Jordan Martineau for a final of 8-2. The Hearst/Kap Regional Express were the next opponents the Huskies faced in round robin play and early goals by defenseman Fynn Manttari and Cole Ellis helped set the tone with Stevens and Martineau adding two more to cap the first period at 4-0 Huskies. Even with the Regionals scoring two in the second period the Huskies stuck to their game plan and the goals kept coming, with two by Jake Sanchioni and another by Ellis to bring the game to a close 7-2. In the final game of the round robin the Huskies faced the North Bay Trappers whom they defeated in the finals of the Nickel City Tournament. The Huskies started the game with an excellent first period, with three unanswered goals scored by Jake Sanchioni, Jordan

Martineau and Fynn Manttari. North Bay held Chapleau scoreless in the second and tallied up three goals themselves, so the game was tied going into the third period with first place in the pool up for grabs. Captain Cole Ellis scored at 12:28 of the third period, assisted by Parker Baronette-Moore but the Trappers tied the game up with 8 minutes left and neither team was able to break the tie before the final buzzer. Semi-final play started the following morning, the Huskies, having finished in first place in their pool played the fourth-place team, The West Nippising Sting. Goalie Brett Andre had his first shutout of the tournament as Cole Ellis had his second four-goal game of the tournament with assists by Jack Cyr, Jack Carter, and Braeden Bernath. Mark Raposo, Jordan Martineau, Fynn Manttari and Kyston Stevens added to the Huskies game sheet totals for a convincing win over the Sting 8-0 setting the stage for the Championship Final against D&L
