HUSKIES CAPTURE NOHA U15A TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
On the weekend of March 24-26th the Chapleau Huskies travelled to Timiskaming Shores to compete in the NOHA Tournament of Champions. After an early exit from the Nickel City Tournament the Huskies were very determined to play well and defendtheirtitleofthepreviousyear.
The Huskies faced Blind River to open thetournamentwithTysonKyddstartinginnet. Blind River came out flying and scored 4 unanswered goals in the first period. In a second period plagued by Husky penalties Tanner Moreau scored once for the Huskies assisted by Max Thibeault, but the Thundercats retained a three-goal lead going into the third with Noah Newman taking over in the net for the Huskies. Thethirdperiodbegan, andthingswerestarting to look bleak for the Huskies when Blind River added two more goals to their tally bringing the score to 6-1. With 8 minutes remaining in the thirdJackCyrscored, assistedonceagainbyMax Thibeault and this seemed to ignite the Husky bench. Goals by Braeden Bernath assisted by TannerMoreau, andJackCyrfromColtenCaron helped bring the Huskies closer, but there was still much work left to be done, and there were onlythreeminutesleftin thegame. Withaminute and a half left on the clock Carter Pullen assisted Max Thibeault and then Jordan Martineau and the game was tied! With the Huskies fans on their
feetandonly7seconds left on the clock TannerMoreau scored thegamewinninggoal assisted by Jordan Martineau in an incredible comeback win!
For their second game of the tournament the Huskies faced Nickel City Jr. Sons, a team theyhavehadamixed record against this year. In a much lower scoring game Nickel City took the lead scoring twice before Braeden Bernath notched one for the Huskies, assisted by Jordan Martineau. Huskies tied up the game with 3 minutes left in the third with a goal by Max Thibeault, but a late thirdperiodpenaltyby the Huskies gave the Sons the chance they needed, and they scored with only 1:11 left handing the Huskies theirfirstlossofthetournament.TysonKyddhad played an excellent game in goal for the

Last week, Industry Minister FrançoisPhilippe Champagne proudly announced that Canadian internet, cable, and wireless services giants Rogers and Shaw would be allowed to proceedwiththeir$26billionmerger.Aspartofthis unprecedented deal, Shaw would need to sell off most of its wireless division, Freedom Mobile, to Quebec'sVideotron,andwouldhavetoabideby21 “legally enforceable” conditions to make cell and internet services cheaper for Canadians. The Ministerhaschalkedthisupasasignificantwinfor Canadian consumers, but in turning our digital services industry over to an increasingly small group of players, he has essentially given the government'sblessingtofurthererodecompetition in an industry that already lacks it and made the absurd claim that an oligopoly is good for consumers.

The conditions are enforceable with fines up to $1 billion for Rogers, and $200 million for Videotron should they not meet their obligations under the deal, however it's easy to imaginethoseconditionswontamounttomuch,as thedevilisalwaysinthedetails.
The conditions are time gated - essentially theyareonlyinplaceforatenyearperiod, andafter that, it becomes business as usual, with a smaller numberofmajorplayersgrowingimmenselymore powerful. It also is not clear how the government intends to enforce those conditions. When asked about specifics, the Minister merely gave a vague statement saying Rogers or Videotron shouldn't “mess with the regulator.” Presumably he was inferring that this would be the CRTCs bailiwick, but it's not a good sign when you can't answer a questionabouthowtheseconditionswouldactually beenforced.
The Industry Minister claims that they struckabalancewiththedealthatwillbebeneficial to consumers and will bring prices down, but it's difficult to square this argument when both the Industry Committee and the Competition Bureau, (an independent law enforcement agency that protects and promotes competition) have opposed the acquisition. The Competition Bureau filed a legalchallengetotheacquisitioninMay2022,with Matthew Boswell, the Commissioner of Competition stating they “conducted a rigorous

The Ontario government is launching a newUltra-LowOvernightpriceplanaspartofits plan to provide consumers with more ways to keepcostsdown, savemoneyandtakecontrolof their energy bills. Starting May 1, 2023, customers of Toronto Hydro, London Hydro, Centre Wellington Hydro, Hearst Power, RenfrewHydro,WasagaDistribution, andSioux Lookout Hydro can opt-in to this new optional electricitypriceplan, withallutilitiesrequiredto offerittocustomerswithinsixmonths.
“Ourgovernmenthasputfamiliesbackin control of their energy bills, and the new UltraLowOvernightpriceplanwillgivefamiliesand small businesses who use more electricity overnight more ways to save” said Todd Smith, Minister of Energy. “Starting May 1 customers can opt-in to the new ultra-low electricity price plan which could save them up to $90 per year, while at the same time making our grid more efficient, helping to reduce costs for all ratepayers.”
The new electricity pricing structure is a third optionforelectricitycustomers, inadditiontothe existing Time-of-Use (TOU) and Tiered plans. Customers that use more electricity at night, includingshiftworkersandthosethatelectrically heat their home or charge their electric vehicle, couldsaveupto$90peryearbyshiftingdemand to the ultra-low overnight rate period when province-wideelectricitydemandislower.
The new ultra-low overnight rate, set by the Ontario Energy Board, will be 2.4 cents per kilowatt-hour(kWh),whichis67percentlower than the current off-peak rate, in exchange for a higheron-peakrate.
Delivery of this new ultra-low overnight
rate is possible as Ontario continues to have excess clean electricity during overnight hours. Shifting electricity use to these hours will allow the province to better leverage Ontario's clean electricity grid, increasing grid efficiency, resulting in potential capacity cost savings for the electricity system of up to $5.7 million per year, helping to reduce costs for allOntarioratepayers.
“By making better use of the province's clean grid, our government is taking further action to keep electricity affordable in Ontario,” said David Piccini, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.“Offeringmoreoptionsfor smartelectricityuseisgoodnews for Ontarians and the environment.”
As Ontario's electricity demand continues to grow, the government will continue to provide electricity relief for both people and businesses while investing in a clean and reliable energy system across the province.
“As more and more people across the province begin to use EVs, the Ultra-Low Overnightpriceplanwillmakeit easier and less expensive to charge their vehicles in the evening,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic
Development, Job Creation andTrade. “Ontario continues to strengthen our province's end-toendEVsupplychain,ensuringthatthecarsofthe future are build right in Ontario by Ontario workers.”
