Drama Club and Hospitality Class Donates $1,000.00 By Rick Dell rs. Dell, H i l a r y Arsenault and Mrs. Bernier are pleased to announce that the Chapleau High School Drama Club, along with the hospitality class, is making a $1,000.00 donation to the Chapleau Public Library in the memory of George Evans. Mr. Evans arrived in Chapleau in 1961 and the Public Library at the time was not very well equipped and was in a dark and dingy location in an old building on Birch Street. For a short period of time it was

moved to the old Town Hall then, in 1978, when the new Civic Centre opened, it did so with a new library. George was instrumental in having this new library located in the building. He realized the power of reading, where citizens could learn about other countries, other people and "reach for
the stars". He was on the Public Library Board before he left Chapleau after his retirement and came back on the Board when he returned until his passing. This modern, bright contribution to the education and recreation of the people of Chapleau reflected George’s confidence in the
development and growth of the community. Mr. Evans was a "patron of the arts" and a dedicated supporter of the High School Drama Club. As a teacher, then as Vice-Principal, he
dedicated his life to the youth of Chapleau helping them with their dreams and aspirations. After his retirement he continued with his good work. If you have not visited the library
recently please do so. Perhaps you will, in the near future, pick up a book and discover from the stamp within that it was purchased in the memory of George Evans. He will be missed and always remembered.
Canada Day – More To Do By Michael Levesque
I
s there anything we forgot to mention about this year`s Canada Day celebration? The Legion continues to host its annual B.B.Q. and social held on the Legion grounds. Word has it that a live band will entertain. The Odd Fellows invite all to a barbeque on the waterfront. The Cotton Candy Lady and the Credit Union
will supply sweet treats for the younger set (and other ages). Games are aplenty with the Rebekah's Bingo, the Odd Fellows Games of Chance and the children's games cosponsored by the Rebekahs and the Leisure Committee. Something special is added this year – a 30 foot climbing wall for the fearless and brave of heart. We thank the Odd Fellows for the
generous donation. Oh, ya, you can get your face painted, decorate your bike, or tricycle, or pram, or pet, display your treasured vehicle and float your duck for the big prize. F i n a l l y, w e invite families, or groups, to play a game or two of beach volleyball. As you all know by now, the Canada Day weekend is special this year. It marks the 90th
anniversary of our high school. The reunion committee, formed months ago, has worked diligently to organize a memorable celebration for former students and graduates. In keeping with these efforts the Leisure Committee chose to improve our Canada Day activities. To do this we partnered with local organizations and businesses. We wish to thank the following
for their community spirit: the Township of Chapleau; The Bargain Shop; Bignucolo Inc.; Collins Home Hardware; Denise's Flower Shop; International Order of Odd Fellows; New Horizon Rebekah Lodge 391; Northern Credit Union; The Rotary Club; Royal Legion; True North Timber; and Ecole Secondaire Catholique Trillium. A big thank you to all!
