ESC Trillium Coyotes claim soccer title

n May 16 and 1 7 , C h a p l e a u ’s École secondaire catholique Trillium girls’ soccer team capped off a successful season at the North Shore Secondary School Athletic Association (NSSSAA) championship tournament in Wawa. Stellar play by the team enabled the Coyotes to claim its first soccer banner. The Coyotes’ strong defensive game and scoring skills served ESC Trillium well during the tournament. The team won all five of its qualifying games,

blanking their opponents from L’Orée des Bois (Dubreuilville), ÉS Saint-Joseph (Wawa), Manitouwadge, Hornepayne and Michipicoten. In the finals, Trillium defeated Marathon 3-0 and ES Saint-Joseph 1-0 before being edged 1-0 by Lake Superior. In the championship game, however, the Trillium Coyotes were once again victorious, taking the crown by beating the team from Lake Superior by a score of 1-0 in a shootout. As NSSSAA champions, the ESC Trillium Coyotes will host the NorWOSSA regional champion Rainy River Owls on May 25 and 26.The winner of that game will wear the regional crown and compete in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships. Members of the Trillium Coyotes include Renay Bernier, Tiffany Card, Holli Canning, Karine Carrière, Cassidy Fortin, Ashley Leach, Krista Leach, Chantal Martel, Amy McAdam, Christiane Morin-Domingue, Brittaney Pilon, Emily Pilon, Erika Smith and Karine Turcotte. The team is coached by M a t t h e w Wi e c h a , Jean-François MorinDomingue and Natalie Smith.
Les Coyotes de l’ESC Trillium remportent un championnat de soccer

’équipe de filles de soccer de l’École secondaire catholique Trillium à Chapleau a connu une fin de saison remarquable en remportant le championnat des Écoles secondaires de la région de la Rive Nord (NSSSAA), qui se déroulait à Wawa les 16 et 17 mai dernier. Il s’agit de la première bannière de soccer remportée par les Coyotes. Les Coyotes ont fait preuve d’un jeu défensif hermétique et d’une attaque efficace lors du tournoi. Dans
leurs cinq parties p r élimin air es , les Coyotes ont accumulé cinq victoires et ont blanchi systématiquement les équipes de L’ O r é e d e s B o i s (Dubreuilville), ÉS Saint-Joseph (Wawa), Manitou-wadge, Hornepayne et Michipicoten. Dans la ronde éliminatoire, Tr i l l i u m a d é f a i t Marathon par le compte de 3-0 et a blanchi les Chevaliers de l’ES Saint-Joseph 10. Cependant, les Coyotes ont perdu aux pieds de Lake Superior par le pointage de 1-0. Dans la partie de
championnat, les Coyotes de Trillium ont renoué avec la victoire en devançant Lake Superior par le compte de 1-0, dans une partie dont le sort final a été décidé par des tirs de barrage. En tant que champions de la NSSSAA, les Coyotes de l’ESC Trillium accueilleront l’équipe gagnante des Écoles secondaires de la région du NorWOSSA, les Owls de Rainy River, les 25 et 26 mai. Le gagnant de cet affrontement aura l’honneur de porter la couronne régionale aux
championnats des écoles secondaires de l’Ontario (OFSAA).
