Winter Carnival discussion meeting held By Mario G. Lafreniere
T
he Leisure and C u l t u r e S e rvices Committee held a successful Wi n t e r C a r n i v a l discussion meeting on March 30th with encouraging participation. The intent of the meeting was to provide citizens with the opportunity to voice their opinions on the betterment of our Annual Carnival. Suggestions about the inclusion or removal of certain events would probably prove to be beneficial in increasing participation and general interest. Ideas, such as extending young children's activities and improving activities
for children between the ages of eight and thirteen were brought forth. As our population is aging senior activities should also be prioritized. Square dancing, horse rides, Polka bands, sugar shacks, euchre tournaments, you name it and they’ll consider it. Other suggestion included resurrecting the Carnival Queen and King pageant along with our once famous Carnival Parade. An important issue that was tabled was the location of events. Should all the events be centralized? In the past, participation may have been hampered by that fact. Ideally most

It is evident
that there is a renewed air of optimism amongst our population and that is encouraging. To voice one's
opinion is important but to have it heard and considered is gratifying. Do not hesitate to contact any of the committee members
with your ideas. They will listen! Another meeting is scheduled for April 20, this time to discuss the Canada Day celebrations.
