Chapleau Health Services Receives High Marks on Quality

S

ervices de santé de Chapleau Health Services (SSCHS) received great n e w s f r o m Accreditation Canada. We earned the highest possible rating “Accredited with Exemplary Standing” award from

the national organization. During the threeday survey in late November, we met 1166 of the 1173 standards and criteria we obtained an overall score of 99.4%. “This survey is a real measure of how

far we have come and how our teamwork is p a y i n g o ff . I t i s a milestone in our ongoing journey towards safe, high quality care that everyone in our organization contributes to and can take great pride in achieving. As a small organization, with limited financial and human resources, achieving exemplary standing is an incredible feat, and I am thankful to be able to work with such dedicated staff” said CEO, Gail Bignucolo. “As Board Chair, I am extremely proud of all the efforts put forth by

all our staff and my fellow board members in this process,” states Board Chair, Denise Portelance-Godin. Accreditation is a rigorous two part evaluation process whereby SSCHS performs a selfassessment survey on how well the organization is meeting Accreditation Canada's standards followed by an on-site evaluation. The external surveyors conducted an on-site assessment to verify that Accreditation Canada's requirements are being met. The surveyors assessed the organization's leadership,

governance, clinical programs and services against Accreditation Canada requirements for quality and safety. The standards identify policies and practices that contribute to high q u a l i t y, s a f e t y a n d effectively managed care. An excerpt from the accreditation report reads: “Although this is a small organization with a total of approximately 100 employees, it is a complex organization that offers acute care services, long-term care, independent living services, adult mental health services, a nursing station and a

medical clinic. Continuing to provide safe and quality services in the context of insufficient funding and staffing shortages is an ongoing challenge for this organization.” Anne Morris, Director of Clinical Services, stated that “The accreditation process follows a 3 to 4 year cycle and our goal will be to keep up the momentum moving forward. We want to continually work on quality projects to align with national standards and best practices to provide safe, quality care to the community we serve.”
