go through a screening and training process, which includes occupational health clearance, criminal check, first aid certified, and vehicle safety training. Presently the program has recruited three volunteer drivers but we are still looking for more. If you are interested in being a volunteer driver please call Julia at 705-8643061. The program is aiming to launch in February, in order to access the service seniors may call the hospital reception office at 705-8641520, press 0, during regular business hours. Reception will take your information and see if a volunteer driver can be matched with

your request. If you are a first time user of the van you will also receive a call from our Community Care Coordinator RN who will complete a short client information form with you over the phone. If you have any questions or concerns about the Senior Transportation Van, please call 705-8641520 ext. 0. Results of Senior Transportation Needs Assessment At the end of 2013, Chapleau Health Services conducted a needs assessment for senior transportation. Seniors aged 60 and older from Chapleau, Sultan and Foleyet were asked to complete the survey. Overall 79

surveys were completed (62% English & 38% French). The majority of those surveyed indicated that they were able to drive (76%). A summary of the highest needs revealed from the survey was as follows: · Those who are unable or uncomfortable driving out of town indicated that they may access the service. Many seniors expressed discomfort with driving out of town in winter months. 76% of seniors indicated they would like the service for out of town travel. · Only 43% of seniors would pay for the service, 19% were unsure. · Majority of seniors indicated that

they would like to access transportation services during the hours of 9 am to 4 pm. · Many seniors expressed concern with the limited hours of the existing in town C h a p l e a u Tr a n s i t service. It was requested that the transit remain open during lunch hour and past 2:30 so they were able to access services and appointments in town. The present hours are preventing many from using the system. Feedback regarding the Chapleau Transit system will be passed onto the Township of Chapleau who operates that system. Chapleau Health Services is launching the Senior Transporta-

tion Van in February in order to help seniors aged 60 and older to access out of town medical appointments. The cost of the service to seniors will be closely matched to the travel component received from the Northern Health Travel Grant program, thereby minimizing the out of pocket costs to seniors. For information or to access this program please call 705-864-1520 ext. 0. Chapleau Health Services would like to thank all those seniors who took the time to participate in the needs assessment, your feedback is valuable to helping all service providers improve services to seniors.
