PROJECT 01 Narrative Programming The primary objective of this project is to challenge students to translate the storytelling elements of a chosen movie into a tangible and spatially engaging interior setting or stage design. By immersing themselves in the movie's themes, motifs, and emotions, students will develop a profound understanding of the interplay between cinema and design, while honing their collaborative and creative skills.

Task 1 : SELECTION OF MOVIE Working in groups of five (5), students will select a movie genre and a specific film related to chosen genre. These choices will form the foundation for crafting the setting. The provided movie genres are as follows: Thriller, Fantasy, Action, Animation, Horror, Sci-fi

Task 2 : NARRATIVE + PROGRAM THROUGH SETTING Each group will analyse the movie's characters, plot, emotions, settings, and symbols, with a focus on the five senses: Touch, taste, sound, smell, and sight. Students will then employ these senses as inspiration for their stage/setting design. The ultimate design will be presented through "narrative programming", seamlessly integrating all elements to create a multisensory immersive encounter that encapsulates the movie's essence.

PROJECT 02 Model REXKL, or RexKL City Center, is a lively mixed-use development and cultural hotspot in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This urban gem blends modern design with historical charm, preserving the area's heritage while giving it a fresh, contemporary feel.

The complex offers a wide array of amenities, such as restaurants, cafes, art galleries, coworking spaces, shops, and event venues. It's a bustling hub for arts and culture, hosting exhibitions, performances, and community gatherings. REXKL's prime location in Kuala Lumpur makes it easily accessible and a favorite spot for both locals and tourists, boosting the city's culture and economy. It's a prime example of transforming a historic area into a thriving, visually stunning contemporary urban space.

Task 2A : BUILDING/SITE MODEL (GROUP-10%) Task 2A requires the creation of a single physical model of the entire REXKL building for the studio. The studio is divided into four categories to complete the overall building look, and each of these categories is further divided into four groups. The model should be created at a scale of 1:50 using sturdy and suitable materials, and building components should be openable (either section or exploded) to enable a better understanding of the interior spaces. The SketchUp and AutoCAD files will be provided by the lecturer to facilitate the modeling and design process.

Task 2B : SPATIAL INTERIOR MODEL (INDIVIDUAL-10%) Each student will be required to produce a representative model of their best interior areas with suitable scale (subject to approval by tutors), minimum base size of an A4 paper. The model must showcase the materials, concept, and idea clearly, while demonstrating good workmanship.

FINAL PROJECT Reimagining Arts and Culture Experience The connection between design, arts, and culture is crucial for creating meaningful cultural experiences. The way places like museums, galleries, and performance venues are designed – their layout, lighting, and overall appearance – greatly influences how we engage with art and culture, enriching the overall experience.

In the Malaysian context, the term 'arts + culture' becomes even more important because it represents the blending of the country's diverse ethnic and artistic traditions. The Arts and Culture Centre is more than just a building; it serves as a central hub where Malaysians from different backgrounds come together to celebrate their creativity, collaborate on projects that bridge different cultures, and innovate in a multicultural environment. This leads us to think about how Malaysia's rich arts and culture heritage can be nurtured and displayed in ways that promote unity, understanding, and ongoing artistic development.

Task: Based on Narrative Programming of chosen genre (theme) and sensory, students must design a captivating and immersive Arts and Culture Center. Key points: Site Study: Self-conduct an in-depth site study to ensure your spatial program, target users, and issues addressed to integrate with the provided site, making the most of its unique characteristics.

Movie Genre & Sensory: Working in pairs, integrate the same sensory (e.g, touch and touch) and a movie genre (theme) as the inspiration for the center's aesthetics, design concept and spatial inspiration to enhance and expand the immersive experience within your designed space.

Collaboration: Collaborate with your partner to design a collaborative setting design that aligns with your chosen genre (theme) and sensory elements, creating a cohesive design concept that blends with your spatial program.

PROJECT 03 Video A walkthrough is when people engage in an activity without a physical audience but allow virtual viewing of a space. It's an interactive exploration showcasing how design elements come together within space, using animations to let viewers interactively explore different areas.

TASK P3(A) : WALKTHROUGH SPACE VIDEO (2mins-3mins) (5%) Based from the 3D representation created in any of the software explored [Sketchup, Revit or 3Ds max], student is required to embed a walkthrough space virtually in a more streamlined and interactive manner. The walkthrough must be able to communicate the overall design of the programming proposed. Discuss with your tutor and your pair on the collaboration area to be captured. For individual, some spaces need more emphasis compared to others. Rendering can be adopted using Enscape, Twin-Motion, Vray, Lumion, etc. upon your preferences.

SELF REFLECTION Firstly, I would want to express my gratitude to each and every one of our teachers for helping us this semester with our projects.

This semester's curriculum has been both difficult and fun to complete. It was intriguing to design for sound as the function would be most important, and after developing it, I realized the shape followed through. Project 1 first pushed me to create a Space program that links with the sound sensory. This required the creation of several stations for this task. I kept the design concepts with me up to the final project and ended up generating a unique space program of which I was proud.

Making the model as a group was a challenging task for all members because we had to coordinate our efforts and assign responsibilities to one another. The team also faced difficulties with time management and miscommunication, but after some planning, we were able to resolve these problems through cooperation and discipline among ourselves to finish the task on schedule. Since I think there is always space for development in my handiwork, model creating has never been something I have been particularly good at. However, with the help of laser cutting and 3D printing, I was able to surprise even myself with the outcome of this task.

As for the final project, It was one of the hardest projects I've worked on because I had to balance working on it with my partner while juggling three different floors and a collaborative space. It was fascinating to use functionality, form, emotions, and sensory elements to create a space that focused on the connections between all of those. Though it was difficult, learning these lessons improved my ability to manage my time as a designer going forward. All things considered, these obstacles will help me become a better designer and be ready for my forthcoming internship.

The pin-up session for the presentation also made me feel very pleased of myself because it was a nice moment to realize that all of my hard work had paid off and to hear the lecturer's encouraging remarks. It is all worthwhile because of the outcome. To sum up, despite the challenges of the semester, I have learned new things and completed it successfully. We finished the project even though it was a difficult journey for us, and I'm really happy with the outcome!
