Dedication of the Michael Whitaker Buddy Bench

By Gina La Benz “Hola!” A buddy bench, inspired by Michael Whitaker, was dedicated at a ceremony at San Marcos Elementary School on his birthday, August 30th. Michael was everybody’s buddy and a mentor to many, including me. After Exchange Club Chandler held a fundraiser last summer for buddy benches at three local schools, Michael challenged me to fund one more. I agreed to use my Epicure sales, and, with the help of friends and family, we made this buddy bench happen – leaving a legacy of love! Thanks, Michael, and Exchange Club Chandler!

Chamber member Ebonié P. Fields was featured in a recent edition of Chandler City Lifestyle magazine. The article by Angel Fuchs titled, “Words & Wisdom” speaks about the authors passion for writing. “(a) trip to the bookstore ignited Fields—and her award-winning Hummingbird series was born. In 2013, Zenie and the Magical Hummingbirds was published, and in December 2020 she released Zoey and the Magical Hummingbirds.”

SRP Announces Leslie Meyers as New Chief Water Executive

Salt River Project (SRP) has announced Leslie Meyers as the company’s new Chief Water Executive and Associate General Manager of Water Resources. Meyers joins SRP with more than 30 years of water resources management experience in Arizona and the Southwest, most recently with the Bureau of Reclamation. Throughout her career, Meyers has worked on strategic initiative planning and implementation with federal and state-level organizations, tribes, irrigation districts, local governments, non-governmental organizations, and others.

“Water resource management is critical to Arizona, and SRP has been a leader of wise stewardship for more than a century,” said Meyers. “I’m proud to join an organization dedicated to ensuring a sustainable water future for our communities.”
