Community Update

When you move a little bit every day, it’s astonishing to look back and see your progress. 2024 was a tremendous year for the Chandler Chamber, and it’s thanks to members like you that we can continue our mission of advocating for our city’s business sector; we’ll continue to expand our offerings into the new year.

For our startups and entrepreneurs, we debuted an Entrepreneurship Series that awarded over $6,000 in cash and prizes to pitching businesses. Community Awards, one of my favorite annual events, saw three lucky entrants receive local scholarships to ChandlerGilbert Community College, which will set them on the path to a bright future in Arizona’s diverse workforce.

Larger organizations benefited from our Executive & Industry Roundtables. These invite-only events connected leadership teams from different companies to discuss current challenges and growth opportunities - including industries like aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and hospitality. These companies were celebrated en masse at our Chandler 100 dinner, where our city’s top 100 largest employers were recognized and celebrated in Quantum Helicopter’s aircraft hangar.

As we welcome new leadership on our Board of Directors and celebrate others for their years of service to the Chandler business community, the Chandler Chamber looks forward to another 365 days of workforce development, advocacy, and community building.

• Use role-playing exercises to help leaders practice empathetic listening and understand different perspectives.

• Enhance emotional intelligence using tools like EQ-i to build awareness and response capabilities.

4.Implement Empathy in Daily Leadership

• Create Empathy Action Plans with strategies like regular check-ins and reflective listening.

• Set up feedback loops for leaders to refine their empathetic practices through team input.

5. Promote a Culture of Empathy

• Identify empathy champions to model and promote empathetic behavior.

Chandler Chamber announces Committee rebrand

The Chandler Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its decision to rebrand the Education & Workforce Committee and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEI&B) Committee. This strategic move reflects a forward-thinking approach to addressing two critical, interconnected issues in today’s workplace: fostering inclusivity and building a robust talent pipeline.

“We continue to see organizations recognize the benefits of a diverse workforce,” said Teri Kimble, President and CEO of the Chandler of Chamber of Commerce. “This is especially true given the rich diversity of Chandler. A workforce that reflects the community’s demographics not only drives innovation but also strengthens our already dynamic business environment.”

The newly rebranded committee will be co-chaired by four accomplished community leaders: Linda Qian (former co-chair of the Education & Workforce Committee, Crystal Blackwell (former Co-Chair of the Education & Workforce Committee), Beth Brizel (former Co-Chair of the DEI&B Committee), and Dr. William Crawford (former Co-Chair of the DEI&B Committee).

Planning a big new year at the December Ambassador Retreat

Ambassadors are highly-visible members of the Chandler Chamber community who help new businesses learn about everything our organization does.

Last month’s retreat was jam-packed with ideas for 2025, which we’re excited to reveal in the coming months. Congrats to all of our hard-working ambassadorsand a round of applause for Kathleen Banister for winning a brand-new TV!

Important update to the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA)

A Federal Judge has blocked the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) from reaching the January 1, 2025 deadline citing its unconstitutionality. Currently, the 30 million businesses previously required to meet this deadline are no longer obligated to do so, unless a higher court overturns the ruling.

The Corporate Transparency Act was aimed at bad actors who use businesses for illegal activities like money laundering or fraud. This law would have required businesses to provide beneficial ownership information (BOI) to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Beneficial Owners are the individuals who control or own the business. Under the CTA, a failure to report BOI by the deadline of January 1, 2025 could have resulted in a civil or criminal penalty.

The previous deadlines were:

• Companies created before January 1, 2024 had until January 1, 2025 to file

• Companies created on or after January 1, 2024, but before January 1,2025 have 90 days to file after receipt of their registration documents

• Companies created on or after January 1, 2025 would have had 30 days to file after receipt of their registration documents

Under this preliminary ruling, reporting companies are not currently required to file their Beneficial Ownership Information with FinCEN. This requirement will remain suspended as long as the ruling is in effect.

However, since this ruling is preliminary, it may be subject to future changes through court decisions or legislative amendments.

Long-range planning and wise investments are key for our city

In last month’s message, I highlighted some of our community’s accolades and successes of the past year. These included mentions of companies who located or expanded their operations in Chandler as well as educational providers and programs creating a talent pipeline for sustained success.

As Mayor, I’m proud of our fiscal achievements too. We lowered Chandler’s property tax rate for the ninth consecutive year, and we have the lowest sales tax in Arizona. We also offer the lowest combined cost of taxes and utility services among Valley cities.

2025 is a time to approach new opportunities with enthusiasm. It’s a time to set goals, pursue new endeavors and build on this success. Chandler is a place where talented people with bold ideas can collaborate and enjoy the excellent business environment and quality of life our community offers.

I invite the Chandler Chamber and its members to join myself and members of the City Council as we explore these topics in more depth at the 2025 State of the City. Mark your calendars for Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Chandler Center for the Arts, 250 N. Arizona Ave. The event is free.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. so members can take mingle, sample food from Chandler restaurants and enjoy community networking during our lobby experience. The program begins at 6:30 p.m., highlighting key accomplishments and previewing significant items ahead this year. Visit chandleraz.gov/StateoftheCity for details.

Among the goals the City Council has for Chandler in 2025 is to evaluate investments in facilities and infrastructure, parks and recreation, public safety and transportation that would benefit our community’s quality of life.

We’ve formed a 31-member bond exploratory committee lead by former Mayor Jay Tibshraeny to evaluate these community needs. We expect to receive their recommendations in the coming months and the City Council will then evaluate whether to call for a bond election in late 2025.

We’re also forming a resident committee to help guide Chandler’s General Plan Update during the next two years. This plan will produce a roadmap of priorities to guide future land use and development activities. It also will incorporate a comprehensive housing needs assessment, as required by state law. Ultimately, the General Plan Update will be decided by Chandler voters during the November 2026 election.

Both efforts are essential to create a vision for development and identify investments that will contribute to the excellent quality of life we enjoy today.

Ambassadors

December 2024 Ambassador of the month

I help people relocating to or from the Metro Phoenix Area. Raised in AZ, I began selling homes in Central Phoenix, followed by a career as a mortgage lender in Scottsdale. Ultimately, I chose to follow my passion for selling homes here in the Greater Phoenix Area. I serve on several committees at the local REALTOR® association, and I am a Chandler Chamber of Commerce Ambassador. All this to say, if you need a connection, please ask…there’s a good chance I can help!

December 2024
