Don’t have a Real ID or acceptable ID?

$45 fee begins February 1, 2026.

Starting February 1, 2026, passengers who do not present an acceptable form of ID (including non-REAL ID compliant state-issued identification) at TSA checkpoints may verify their ID using TSA ConfirmID, TSA’s modernized alternative identity verification option. TSA ConfirmID is a fee-based service designed to enhance security and streamline identity verification for air travelers who do not have an acceptable form of ID.

If you are unable to provide the required acceptable ID, such as a passport or REAL ID, you can pay a $45 fee to use TSA ConfirmID. TSA will then attempt to verify your identity so you can go through security; however, there is no guarantee TSA can do so.

Please note: Using TSA ConfirmID is optional. If you choose not to use it and don’t have an acceptable ID, you may not be allowed through security and may miss your flight. Fraud or other criminal activity regarding this process will be processed under federal penalties.

Utility rate changes to take effect March 2, 2026

CHANDLER, Ariz. The City of Chandler manages and operates water, wastewater, reclaimed water and solid waste utilities. Each year the city evaluates the revenues and expenditures of each utility to determine if there is a need for utility rate increases to fund rising ongoing operating costs as well as debt service costs associated with capital improvements. The analysis indicated revenue increases were needed for FY 2025-26 at 15% for water, 15% for wastewater, 18% for reclaimed water, and 6% for solid waste.

After several public meetings and public outreach, the new rates for water, wastewater and reclaimed water were approved by the Chandler City Council Jan. 22, 2026. The Solid Waste rates will be on the Feb. 26, 2026, Chandler City Council agenda. All utility rates would go into effect with the utility billing cycle that begins on March 2, 2026.

The increased rates are essential to ensure that the city has the needed funds to cover the costs of providing water, wastewater, reclaimed water and solid waste services.

An average residential homeowner can anticipate an overall increase of roughly $9 per month.

After incorporating these rate increases, Chandler still provides the lowest cost for its utility services based on an annual Tempe cost comparison. The following chart shows what residents pay, on average, each month for water, wastewater, reclaimed water, solid waste and recycling services in comparative cities:

In addition to utility rate changes, there will also be changes to some of the existing fees associated with solid waste services. The changes are as follows:

Bulk collection will still be allowed up to four times for free (in combination with visits to the Recycling Solid Waste Collection Center or RSWCC) per calendar year. A fee of $43 will be charged for additional bulk collections.

All residents will still be allowed up to four visits to the RSWCC for free (in combination with requested bulk collections) per calendar year for loads up to 400 lbs., with any additional weight being charged in 20 lb. increments. Additional visits (up to 400 pounds) will be charged a fee of $14, with any weight over 400 pounds being charged for the full weight at $70 per ton charged in 20 lb. increments. A special (extra or off day) curbside collection fee will be $23.50 while a special alley collection will be $41.50.

Containers for new construction will cost $150.

For questions or concerns, call 480-782-2280 or email utilitybilling@chandleraz.gov.

Supporting Business and Community with Clarity and Compassion

In recent weeks, I’ve heard growing concerns from businesses and residents about federal immigration enforcement activities taking place here and around the country. As your mayor, I want to assure our residents and local business owners that our city remains committed to transparency, safety and service for everyone, regardless of immigration status.

We created a webpage – chandleraz.gov/immigration - to connect people with information and resources. Here’s some key points to share widely.

The Chandler Police Department does not enforce federal immigration laws. Our officers will not ask anyone for documents related to citizenship or immigration status. Their duty is to uphold state and local laws while keeping our community safe.

By policy, our officers may assist other law enforcement agencies when requested, usually by providing traffic control, ensuring scene safety or maintaining police presence. However, no federal agency is required to notify the City of Chandler before conducting operations, and Chandler Police will not interfere with such federal actions.

Chandler Police officers always identify themselves when performing their duties. Their uniforms display badges, nameplates and clearly marked Chandler Police Department insignia. Chandler Police do not wear full face coverings, and if you ever have doubts about someone claiming to be a Chandler officer, you may verify their identity by calling or texting 911 in an emergency or use our non-emergency line at 480-782-4130.

I recognize that federal activity can create anxiety for families, nonprofits and businesses. Resources such as the ACLU of Arizona, Phoenix Legal Action Network, and the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce can help businesses and residents understand their rights.

Chandler is a city built on innovation, compassion and respect. We remain steadfast in serving all who live, work and do business here with integrity and care.

The Chandler Chamber of Commerce and its members are essential partners in driving our community forward. I thank the business community for their unwavering support and work to build a truly exceptional city. I hope you’ll join me and the rest of City Council to celebrate Chandler at the State of the City event.

Pacific Islands Festival will be held April 18th, 2026

The Arizona Association for Pacific Island Culture (AAPIC) is a Chandler-based nonprofit designed to teach and preserve the cultures, traditions, and values of the Pacific Islands (PI) for the younger generation of PI children.

Due to various reasons, it is an unfortunate reality that a majority of PI people in America will either never travel back to their ancestor’s island of origin or will go one time for a once-in-a-lifetime visit. Because of this it has become a mission of ours to meet them where they’re at and bring their culture to them. We do this in large part by hosting an anual Pacific Islands Festival in Downtown Chandler, which will be held on April 18th, 2026 from 10AM-9PM at AJ Chandler Park Stage Plaza.

The festival brings together Arizona’s premier dance troupes, food and merchandise vendors, tattoo artists, and Island-owned or inspired businesses for a day to celebrate and promote PI culture.

On top of that, we also have a Cultural Village where we have cultural practitioners teaching about the history, languages, and customs of the islands of Samoa, Hawaii, Guam, and the Marshall Islands. Last year we had history and language lessons as well as demonstrations for fire-making, basket weaving with palm tree fronds, coconut husking, and ancient weaponry.

We’re looking to expand our cultural offerings due to the overwhelming success of last year’s Cultural Village. Please reach out to me if you’d like more information or would like to help and/or be a part of our festival!

CUSD Governing Board Names Dr. Anna Battle Superintendent

CHANDLER, AZ — On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) Governing Board selected Dr. Anna Battle as the district’s next superintendent following an extensive, community-informed search process that included three finalists. The selection is contingent upon successful contract negotiations and the Board’s acceptance of an independent background check.

Dr. Anna Battle is a distinguished instructional and operational leader with nearly four decades of experience advancing student achievement, organizational excellence, and equitable educational systems. She currently serves as Deputy Superintendent for Roosevelt School District (PK–8) in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, where she provides leadership over academics and operations, including human resources, finance, teaching and learning, special education, data and research, technology, student services, transportation, student-wellness, and athletics. Known for her visionary leadership, Dr. Battle effectively managed multi-million-dollar budgets, complex operational systems, and diverse educational programs, maintaining strong relationships with governing boards, community partners, and legislative stakeholders.

Dr. Battle’s career includes service as Superintendent of Casa Grande Union High School District, K–12 Managing Director/Head of Schools at ASU Preparatory Academy, and Assistant Superintendent of Operations for Tempe Union High School District. She also served as principal at both Desert Vista High School and Tempe High School, where her leadership earned statewide and national recognition. An accomplished scholar-practitioner, Dr. Battle holds a Doctor of Education from Arizona State University, has taught graduate-level leadership courses, and authored publications on trust and student advocacy. Her career reflects commitment to leadership, integrity, and community impact.

“Our Board is excited to welcome Dr. Battle and to work alongside her as we continue building on the many strengths of Chandler Unified,” said Governing Board President Patti Serrano. “Her passion for public education, combined with her experience leading school systems, reflects the priorities our community identified throughout this process and positions our district well for the future.”

“Over the past several months, the CUSD Governing Board heard from students, staff, families, and community members,” Serrano added. “That input was invaluable in shaping our leadership profile and guiding both the search process and the final selection. We are deeply grateful for the engagement, thoughtfulness, and care our community demonstrated every step of the way.”

The Governing Board initiated the superintendent search in October 2025 and retained Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to conduct a national search. The engagement phase included focus groups, community forums, and stakeholder interviews designed to capture a broad range of perspectives across the district. The application period closed on January 2, 2026.

Following a comprehensive review of applicants, the Board identified four semi-finalists, who were interviewed in executive session on January 24. Three finalists advanced and, on January 28, participated in school visits, stakeholder meetings, and staff- and community-wide forums. Dr. Battle will officially assume the role of superintendent on July 1, 2026, following the retirement of Superintendent Frank Narducci. Mr. Narducci has served Chandler Unified School District for more than 30 years and has been superintendent since 2021. HYA will support the district throughout the leadership transition to ensure continuity, stability, and a strong start.

The Governing Board extends its sincere appreciation to students, district staff, families and community partners for their thoughtful participation in this important and consequential process. We also thank all candidates for their time and interest in serving our premiere District. Chandler Unified continues to demonstrate the strength of a community deeply invested in its schools and centering our students. The Board looks forward with confidence and optimism to the district’s next chapter.
