The Chandler Chamber of Commerce has announced a groundbreaking decision to rebrand the Education & Workforce Committee and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEI&B) Committee. This strategic move reflects a forward-thinking approach to addressing two critical, interconnected issues in today’s workplace: fostering inclusivity and building a robust talent pipeline.
“We continue to see organizations recognize the benefits of a diverse workforce,” said Teri Kimble, President and CEO of the Chandler of Chamber of Commerce. “This is especially true given the rich diversity of Chandler. A workforce that reflects the community’s demographics not only drives innovation but also strengthens our already dynamic business environment.”
The decision to merge these committees reflects progressive thinking from the Chandler Chamber Board of Directors, who have been working towards this transition since last summer. This significant shift required leadership, collaboration, and vision from both Chamber members and the Board of Directors, underscoring a shared commitment to fostering inclusivity and addressing workforce challenges in innovative ways.
The newly rebranded committee will be co-chaired by four accomplished community leaders: Linda Qian (former co-chair of the Education & Workforce Committee, Crystal Blackwell (former Co-Chair of the Education & Workforce Committee), Beth Brizel (former Co-Chair of the DEI&B Committee), and Dr. William Crawford (former CoChair of the DEI&B Committee).
This progressive step underscores the Chandler Chamber’s commitment to being a catalyst for positive change. The new Chandler Workforce Development Council will tackle issues that span the full spectrum of workforce challenges and best practices. It’s a bold move that highlights the Chandler Chamber’s dedication to addressing barriers while also ensuring businesses have access to a skilled, diverse talent pool.
The Chandler Chamber Community Foundation has officially launched their first new program of 2025: Chandler Young Professionals. Designed for business people ages 21 to 39, this exclusive series uses the Chamber’s connections with the East Valley business community to foster development in entry-level professionals and entrepreneurs.
If you attended an industry-specific networking event at the start of your career, you know how intimidating it can be to navigate a room of seasoned veterans. The Chandler Chamber’s Young Professionals group understands that struggle and aims to provide a fresh approach – one that meets young professionals exactly where they are.
“As the East Valley continues to develop, young professionals are the future of our state’s economy,” said Terri Kimble, President & CEO of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce.
“They bring fresh perspectives, new ideas, and the energy needed to drive our industries forward, including the growing semiconductor & advanced manufacturing industries right here in Chandler. By fostering growth in young professionals, the Chandler Chamber is investing in the next generation of leaders who will play a crucial role in sustaining and expanding Arizona’s economic success.”
Chandler Young Professionals will meet for four main events, with topics ranging from volunteering for local nonprofits, to going behind-the-scenes at one of the East Valley’s hottest businesses. Group members will have access to additional private professional development opportunities throughout 2025.
The first event in this brand-new series is a private introductory mixer on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 4:00-5:30 pm. Since this is limited to young professionals, event details will only be shared with registered members.
Interested in joining the Chandler Young Professionals group? Visit chandlerchamber.com/young-professionals to start your application.

At the 23rd-Annual East Valley Breakfast with the Governor, Governor Katie Hobbs delivered her State of the State address, providing insight into several themes regarding her role and experience as Arizona’s 24th governor.
Gov. Hobbs emphasized her ambition for the future of the state and how she believes these objectives can be achieved. In line with her recently announced state budget proposal, the Governor then remarked on several issues that continue to persist across Arizona.
These issues included education, immigration, effective water management, as well as the state’s housing crisis, and she delineated upon ways in which the state legislature and the Governor’s office can work together to ensure these matters are adequately addressed and resolved.
The first of these proposals would see an emphasis placed on lowering the cost of living and housing for residents across the state, with a “$15M onetime deposit into the Housing Trust Fund,” as well as $5M towards the Homes for Heroes initiative that would provide additional resources towards curbing veteran homelessness. She also proposed a $3.8M allocation to the School Meals Grants that would “reduce or eliminate the school meal copay for families eligible for reduced price school meals.”
Gov. Hobbs also expressed a renewed interest in halting the flow of deadly narcotics into Arizona, proposing a “$14M one-time [allocation] and $5M ongoing for the Stopping Arizona’s Fentanyl Epidemic (SAFE) initiative,” which she believes to be a critical function of the state’s border security initiative.

Our nation witnessed a leadership transition in the executive branch of the federal government when President Trump took the oath of office last month. In the days and weeks that have followed, executive orders have been signed by the President to direct the operation of federal agencies and authorities.
The U.S. Constitution gives Presidents broad executive and enforcement authority to determine how to enforce the law and manage the resources and staff of the federal government’s executive branch.
The policies of the federal government affect millions of people, and their work generates headlines. We’ve seen that occur by the response to federal actions addressing immigration enforcement, eliminating diversity, equity and inclusion programs and freezing federal funding.
However, these executive orders are separate from laws passed by states and municipalities. The City of Chandler has all powers expressed or implied for a city under the constitution and laws of the State of Arizona. That means the Chandler City Council establishes laws and policies in our jurisdiction.
By comparison, the work of our city is rooted in relationships as we provide services directly to businesses and residents. The impact of our work is immediate, visible and personal. That perspective is important as I discuss federal actions that have been taken.
Immigration enforcement is the jurisdiction of federal law enforcement agencies, not local police. Chandler Police continue to follow current practices and policies to prevent crime, respond to service calls and enforce city ordinances and the laws of the State of Arizona.
The elimination of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs applies to federal agencies. Chandler’s DEI programs have no affiliation with federal agencies or federal funding. We also conduct open, competitive recruitments for positions and hire people based on their qualifications and ability to fulfill the job responsibilities.
Chandler is one of Arizona’s most diverse communities and has had a diversity program for nearly 30 years. Our non-discrimination ordinance, cultural celebrations, diversity programs and efforts to expand access to city services will continue.
A freeze of federal funds won’t impact fire and police response, water and wastewater services, trash and recycling collection, development permits, business licenses, parks, recreation centers, libraries and many other essential services provided to Chandler businesses and residents.
Our day-to-day operations continue as nearly all city services are locally funded. However, we are awaiting guidance from federal agencies regarding implications for some federally funded services like public housing and related programs. We will work to mitigate or minimize any disruptions in service.
Chandler businesses and residents expect us to serve the community and solve problems every day. That’s what we continue to do.
Clegg was recently named the third place winner of the Diocese of Phoenix’s 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Service Project Award for her efforts bringing the Angel Tree Service Project to Seton Catholic.
“I feel proud and honestly, when I received the email that I had won I didn’t respond for two days because I was so excited,” Clegg said. “I really didn’t think I was going to win.”
In total, Clegg’s project received 70 gifts going to the less fortunate during Christmastime, a number that Clegg was impressed with in the first year of doing the drive at Seton Catholic.
For $125 per person, enjoy lobster bisque, a tender heart tart, and your choice of first/main course, which includes seared halibut, norwegian salmon, & crab cakes.
