PRESIDENT’S LETTER The end of an academic year always comes with a flurry of emotions; excitement for the summer break, gratitude for a productive and positive year, and the bittersweetness of saying goodbye to our graduating seniors. Early in the summer, we shift our focus to the next academic year and how we can grow to best serve the next generation of Chaminade Gentlemen. The impact of a class can be difficult to measure, but the class of 2022 has been a joy to work alongside, and has left Chaminade better than they found it. They should especially be commended for the resilience and perseverance they displayed during the pandemic. They chose to lead our school with grace and enthusiasm, when it would have been just as easy to be disappointed, resentful, and impatient with the circumstances they were given. Our students, faculty, and staff have been served well by the men of the class of 2022. I’m confident that they will further fulfill our mission of becoming the men the world needs them to be as they transition to the next phases of their Esto Vir journey. It’s worth noting that Chaminade resumed normal operations for most of the second semester. Our middle school students attended class trips to Chicago and Wyoming. Our rising seniors participated in their junior leadership experience. We held prom and middle school mixers. Our athletic events, drama productions, and band concerts took place in front of full crowds, while our students and teachers got to interact with one another and build relationships in authentic ways. It was refreshing to have a few months of normalcy before ending the year. I will always be grateful for our students, families, faculty, and staff for their unwavering commitment to Chaminade during the difficult times we faced. A highlight of the year was the financial support of the Chaminade community. We had a record-breaking auction, with proceeds from the fund-a-need going to tuition assistance. More students will have access to a Chaminade education because friends of Chaminade determined that their investment in the education of others was worthwhile. Additionally, we exceeded our Chaminade fund goal, which allows us to keep our tuition increases to a minimum. The Chaminade fund supports every aspect of the school and plays an important role in growing our programs and enhancing the student experience. We also added seven new named scholarships to our endowed scholarship program. Next year, we will award $727,000 in endowed scholarships.

As we look to 20222023, we are thrilled to have strong enrollment in all grades. We are expecting a stellar number of highly qualified students in our middle school and entering our ninth grade. We continue to be grateful for the opportunity to share our Marianist values with students from around the world. Thank you to our families and students for being outstanding ambassadors for the school. I would be remiss if I didn’t highlight our outstanding faculty and staff for the impact they have made on our students and our school. We are lucky to have such a dedicated team of top-notch professionals serving our students and our families. They have always given their best to our students. We wouldn’t be where we are without their commitment, especially throughout the COVID era of the school. Fr. Chaminade recognized that new times call for new methods. We are certainly living in new and uncertain times. Chaminade is proud to be a place of stability, providing a loving and welcoming environment to all who enter through the doors of Chaminade Hall. Understanding that the world around us is changing, we will remain steadfast in our commitment to our Marianist values, while growing to meet the needs of today’s young men. Please know of the prayers of the entire Chaminade community for you and your family. We are wishing you a refreshing and relaxing summer break! Esto Vir!

WHAT IS

?

NORMAL by Marty Winkler ’05

Merriam-Webster defines “normal” as “conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern: characterized by that which is considered usual, typical, or routine.” For most of our lives, this was not worth pointing out or even looking up. But for the better part of two years, we have all been trying to redefine what normal is. Or better yet, remember what normal is. You would be forgiven if you struggle with the meaning of “normal.” I would go so far as to say that, in today’s world, that struggle is normal. How could it not be? For two years we covered our faces to see each other. We put up plastic and glass barriers to create interactions of contactless contact. Words like “quarantine” and “vaccine”, normally reserved for doctor’s visits and sci-fi novels, entered our daily lexicon. Some of us went to work or went to school by staying home.

To rationalize or cope, we invented new phrases, most notably “the new normal”; a contradictory term to perfectly convey our contradictory actions. If something is described as “new”, how can it also be described as “normal”? It doesn’t make sense. But then again, has anything for the last two years made sense? When winter gives way to spring, it traditionally fills us with a sense of renewal, a sense of hope, and a sense that everything will be alright. This feeling had all but left us for the last two years. But this year, as the weather warmed, finally, the face coverings came off. The barriers came down. And in place stood smiling faces, handshakes and hugs, stories, and laughter; all things that we used to brush off as normal. But something strange has come along with this return to normal that unfortunately is not as normal as it should be: a sense of thankfulness and gratitude for everyday life. May we never again take the small blessings of seeing family and friends and making small talk for granted. May we never again overlook the simple charm of smiling at each other as we pass in hallways. May we never again forget to say a prayer of thanks for the mundane. So let’s leave the new normal behind, and turn the old normal into a more gracious and joyful one. Welcome back, normal. We’re so thankful you’re still with us.

PRINCIPAL’S LETTER To the Chaminade Community, Looking back on my 9th year at Chaminade but the first year in my new role as Middle School Principal, I can’t help but have feelings of excitement and gratefulness for the opportunity in front of me. An opportunity to work with our students, teachers, and parents with the same goal in mind: to give our students the best chance to reach their full potential spiritually, academically, and socially. While the world outside the halls of Chaminade can be divided and at times abrasive, it’s comforting to know that inside our own community, we can trust in God and in each other that we can join forces and come together to reach this common goal. A few things that have been affirmed after my first year in this role are how amazing our teachers are, how resilient our students are, and how supportive our parents are. Talk about a dream school. Those are three ingredients that are needed to move the needle of a school in a positive direction. Over two years ago, our teachers were in a position they never thought they’d be in: teaching their students virtually from their own homes. You don’t become a teacher hoping or thinking that someday you’ll get to teach in your pajamas with coffee brewing and the TV on in the background. Sure, all that sounds nice, but after a few weeks, our teachers wanted to come back to in-person learning as soon as possible. They wanted to be around their students. They wanted to be with their students because they knew the students needed them. Our teachers wanted to be with their colleagues to share best practices, feedback on students, or just share a laugh and be in community with one another. Our teachers were the catalyst that gave the administration the green light to start the process of brainstorming ways to safely come back to school for the 2020-2021 school year. Over the past couple of years, our teachers have been flexible, patient, creative, committed, and just amazing. Thank you, teachers, for staying committed through the most unprecedented of times.

them to follow school rules they never thought would be in place at a school. While not perfect and often several reminders later, they met us halfway and did their part to keep our school open through a global pandemic. Our student leaders, whether within the House System or Campus Ministry, stepped up and did things differently to help us achieve our common goal. Mass was outdoors, House Meetings were virtual at times, and mixers and dances were outside. Our students knew how important these events were to our school, so we found ways to go through with them safely. I’ve always said boys are resilient, but they truly showed their resilience these past couple of years. Our students are showing growth and progress through a challenging couple of years. Their resilience and ability to move onto the next thing is why teaching boys is the best job in the world. It has become clear that our parents view our relationship as a true partnership. A partnership that is vital in achieving our common goal. My commitment to parents is that our teachers, counselors, and administrators will always have the best interest of their sons in mind with any decision we make. This is where we rely on our parents. Our parents know their sons best and collaborating with them when things come up regarding their son ultimately gives their son the best chance to reach his full potential. I am grateful for our parents and all they do for our school and their sons. I am most grateful for the trust they bestow in us to do the work we all love and were called to do. Chaminade is such a special place. It’s the community and Family Spirit that echo through the halls that make it the best place to show up to every morning. The work we GET to do with our students every day is an opportunity we do not take lightly. We are excited and grateful for the opportunity in front of us. Knowing that we have amazing teachers, resilient students, and supportive parents puts us in a great position to reach our common goal: to give our students the best chance to reach their full potential spiritually, academically, and socially. God Bless the Chaminade Community, Jack Twellman Middle School Principal

It’s no doubt that being a teacher these last few years has been challenging. Often overlooked though, is the difficulty it was being a student as well. We asked a whole lot from our students during this time. We asked

Perseverance. That is the best way to describe the Class of 2022. For three pandemic-stricken school years, this class came to school, lead the way, and showed us how to persevere through adversity and find success. As one of their last acts, they helped lead the school back to normal operations, culminating with the first full graduation ceremony in the Skip in front of a full crowd for the first time this decade. These Gentlemen are to be commended not just for their academic and athletic success, but for showing us that true leadership rises to the occasion in the toughest of times. We hope these men continue to grow and succeed as they move on to the next stage of their Esto Vir journey, and we hope they carry with them the words of Rev. Oscar Vasquez, whom gave this year’s commencement address: “Esto Vir must be more than a saying to you. It must be something that you take to heart.” Esto Vir, Gentlemen. Continue to persevere.

ATHLETICS BASEBALL

BASKETBALL

The season ended on a thrilling but disappointing 9-inning loss in the district final to Parkway Central, 13-12. The Red Devils had leads in several innings but just couldn’t hold on to win the district after upsetting the #4 seed Pacific and #1 seed Westminster.

This year, the Chaminade basketball team finished with a record of 23-9 finishing fourth in the state and making the final four seven out of eight years. Senior Nate Straughter was selected as first-team All-State as well as third-team All-Metro. BJ Ward, Nilavan Daniels, Filip Sinobad, and Nate Straughter were allconference selections.

The highlight of the season was senior Charlie Weber’s perfect game vs Parkway North on April 2nd. Along with not allowing a hit nor a runner to reach base, he struck out 13 batters in a stellar performance. Overall, Charlie pitched 62 innings with a 0.68 ERA winning five games and striking out 77. Junior Quinn Council was also a bright spot for the pitching staff pitching 51 1/3 innings, winning five games with an ERA of 0.82 while striking out 52. On the offensive side, sophomore Nick Livingston hit .338 and was a solid contributor with many key hits driving in 24 runs. Senior Chase Blair was the leadoff hitter batting .333 with 8 doubles, 4 triples, 1 home run, and 17 stolen bases. Chase was stellar on defense patrolling centerfield making many “web-gem” plays that would make any highlight reel. Junior Aiden Houseworth was a mainstay on defense as the starting shortstop after recovering from a serious knee injury sustained at the end of last season. Charlie Burt was the backstop of the team starting at catcher. He finished with .316 batting average with 5 doubles and 2 home runs. The Red Devils graduate two seniors but have a solid core of returning juniors along with three sophomores and one freshman who contributed to the season. The future looks bright for the baseball program.

eSports This year we participated in a different league than last year. The league had a middle school division and a high school division. Our Rocket League team consisting of Ethan Scott, Greg Fedyk, and the third man being either Curran Buescher in the fall or Reilly Spencer in the spring did well this year as the team learned the ins and outs of playing in a different league. Minecraft was a new game offered this year and we had several players: Sam Feldman, Brady Moersch, Brendan Mooney, Torsten Roither, Michael Connors, Nick Benninger, Holden Robb, and Rhys Robb. They all did really well learning the rules and competing week to week. Near the end of the spring season, the eSports room was opened up on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to students that wished to watch others compete, or those that wished to come down and play a game for a bit. A lot of those days we filled the room up helping the club aspect of the eSports room to grow alongside the competitive side of things.

ATHLETICS GOLF

LACROSSE

The reigning Class 5 state champion Red Devils had a productive 2022 season. They began the defense of their crown down in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where they played a couple of the local teams. The tournament schedule had them playing at Winghaven, The Bluffs, Jefferson City, and Lake of the Ozarks – and they took the championship in all four tournaments. Led by a solid core of returning players from the previous season, the team took on the talented field and windy conditions at the district tournament on May 9 and took second place. This was the sixth straight year that Chaminade qualified as a team for the state tournament. Despite settling for sixth place at Dalhousie CC on May 16 & 17, the golfers are looking forward to a stronger finish next season.

The Varsity Lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season with only two losses in the state, including wins over MCC rivals CBC and SLUH, and entered the MSLA playoffs as the three seed with a first-round bye. Seniors Bryce Sullivan (PTS), Joe Cavanaugh (FOW), and Jackson Sorth (GAA) are leading the area as the team prepares for a deep playoff run. Defensive standouts Ethan Divis and Josh Steinhubl have excelled at limiting opponents’ offensive opportunities through the season. The JV and C teams both finished with records over .500, and our four middle school teams gained lots of game experience playing tough area competition.

HOCKEY

RACQUETBALL

We are very excited for the future of our club as this year we saw this deep class of incoming freshmen not only contribute but excel in their first season! We found ourselves dressing anywhere from 7 to 11 freshmen a night which provided a chance to develop a strong foundation for the future. We are extremely happy with this group and believe the strong nucleus of underclassmen will lead us to our first state championship in the next three years.

The Chaminade Racquetball team finished the year with a 2-8 record. We had a dedicated group of seniors (Cole Pisutha-Arnond, John Wingbermuehle, Evan Cox, Chase Blair, Tommy Gilliam, and Jack Childs) that worked hard all year. Congratulations to Tommy & Jack, who took home the first-place trophy in doubles at the MOHSRA State Tournament. We had an energetic group of resident students that joined the JV team, playing racquetball for the first time. Lastly, seventh-grader Bobby Cima was our lone middle-schooler to join the team and made great strides in improving his game.

Lastly, I’d like to thank our senior class for the last four years. Coming into my fifth year coaching Chaminade Hockey, this year’s senior class was the first graduating class I’ve coached from freshman year to senior year. It’s been amazing watching them grow not only on the ice but also growing into great young men. For as long as I coach Chaminade Hockey, I will always remember this group as being resilient, coachable, and an absolute pleasure to be around. They will all be missed and we wish them all the best of luck in their future endeavors.

RUGBY Chaminade Rugby Club had another winning season with a final record of 6-3. It was a rough start to the season early on until we got 15 committed players and then Chaminade’s road to the state tournament began. Even without subs, our dedicated players took the field and took down North County, Francis Howell, and Eureka early in

our season, followed by a loss to Lindbergh and a heartbreaking loss in the final minute down one player to SLUH. We then won three straight games in the state tournament, losing our final game to Eureka due to injuries. We only lost by three points in our final game with only 11 players as opposed to 15 from Eureka. Chaminade finished 6th overall in state play and the young men’s dedication, mental and physical toughness, and their refusal to quit should be admired.

TENNIS The varsity tennis team had a bounce-back season this spring, finishing with a dual match record of 12-8. We won an 8-team tournament the weekend of April 9th at North Point High School and finished in 2nd place in the flighted MCC Tournament. Individual MCC champions include Tate Wojciechowski/ Brandon Wagrodzki in the 1st doubles flight and Jack Carr/ Jack Childs in the 2nd doubles flight.

TRACK & FIELD The 2022 Track & Field season promises to be one of the most successful in recent years, due in part to the return of several district, sectional, and state qualifiers from last season. In addition, the team will also fare well in most meets because of the talent that can be found in nearly all 19 events. In the pole vault, Joe Mura is working to reach heights exceeding 12’ while 2022 sectional qualifier Hank Proost hopes to make it to the state meet after falling just short last year. The distance squad is deep in talent, ranging from freshman, Joe DiGiuseppe to returning State qualifiers, Mitch Hardeman and Alex Cattoor. In the long, triple, and high jump, the team is stacked with several athletes who qualified for sectionals last year including Jonathan Lee in the long jump, and Jason Rae and Charlie O’Bryan in the triple jump and high jump, respectively. The sprinting corps will undoubtedly earn points throughout the year with speedsters Cam Epps, Chris Jenkins, and Jacob Scheller, among others.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE The Chaminade Ultimate Flatballers ran the table this year going 8 – 0. It is the first undefeated season in the team’s 15-year history.

VOLLEYBALL It was a season of growth and rebuilding for the 2022 Chaminade Volleyball Team. Boys volleyball in the St. Louis area is becoming more popular and more competitive, and Chaminade will continue to compete right along with the MCC conference and the greater Missouri/Illinois area. After the state title in 2019, no season in 2020, and some new rules and regulations that placed us in a higher class, the 2022 season presented the team with some real challenges. The losing record does not accurately reflect the efforts of our team and the many close matches we had against some of the area’s best programs. The JV team showed immense promise, and the future of Chaminade volleyball is bright! We thank our seven seniors for their leadership, efforts, and enthusiasm throughout the season and their time in the program: Nate Mose, Joe Bacich, Drew Ganninger, Blake Pingel, Andrew Lane, Jacob Lane, and Jake Sudduth.

WATER POLO The Chaminade Water Polo team started training early this year with morning swims in January. This was a true rebuilding year, but hard work and dedication were never in short supply. Seniors Owen Piskorowski and Matthew Murawski helped to foster a culture of inclusion for a team that also had fifteen freshmen and sophomores. Certainly, the future looks bright with so many returning players. A few highlights from the season include wins over Rockwood Summit, Marquette on Senior Night, and avenging an earlyseason loss to Parkway South. Next year’s team will be led by returning juniors Holden Schroyer, Tomas Belloso, Gavin Rizzo, Jack Unger, and Daniel Sansone.

WRESTLING Wrestling had a very successful 2021-2022 season qualifying Jack Lake, Dan Smith, and Massimo Mattina for State Championships in Columbia. This was the most wrestlers Chaminade has had qualify in 10 years. The wrestling team was young and should return most of the team next year and looks to make a huge jump forward with two returning state qualifier wrestlers, Dan and Massimo, leading the way.

A talented group of throwers hopes to advance through the state series of meets as well, led by Kyle Riffel in the javelin, Alex Todt in the shot put, and Kyle Russell in the discus.

AMAZING ACHIEVEMENTS Epps ’22 & Lansing ’22 Earn First-Team Honors on St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro Team The St. Louis Post-Dispatch releases its annual all-metro football team after every season. By many, this is viewed as an honor equal to, and some would argue higher than, all-state honors as the all-metro team spans all six classes of football in the St. Louis Metro area and includes local teams from both St. Louis and neighboring programs from metroarea Illinois. The Red Devil football team had two players recognized this season: Cam Epps ‘22 (UTIL) and Jimmy Lansing Jr. ‘22 (OL). This is Epps’ second selection to the all-metro team, but his first as a Utility selection (last season he was recognized exclusively as a DB). The Utility position is included to highlight student athletes who excel at a wide variety of positions on both sides of the ball. Epps has signed a letter of intent to play at Oklahoma State University next season as a Defensive Back, a position he’s played as a starter for all four years of his Chaminade career, finishing with 49 tackles and 1 sack this season (his lack of interceptions is far more a testament to opponents’ unwillingness to throw his way--Epps was targeted only 11 times in coverage all season). Cam also excelled as a athletic threat on the offensive side of the ball accounting for 1852 rushing yards, 28 rushing TDs, 172 receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs, and 427 passing yards and 5 passing TDs. Epps also excelled as one of the area’s top punters with 1137 total punt yards this season. Epps tied a single-game scoring record against Granite City when he scored 5 TDs in a single-game. Epps finished 5th in the area in scoring and 4th in rushing yards. Jimmy Lansing Jr. made his second appearance on the All-Metro Team this year. Lansing at Left Tackle was the anchor of an overall impressive offensive line this season that was responsible for 3,864 rushing yards, the highest total rushing for a team during Coach Torrey’s tenure as head coach. Renowned as one of the area’s premeire pass-blockers, a role he played protecting three top-tier Red Devil quarterbacks in Brady Cook (‘20), Cam Epps (‘22), and Drake Faust (‘23). This season saw a tremendous improvement in Lansing’s abilities as a physical, road-grading offensive lineman in the run game. Lansing started at left tackle, regularly viewed as the most difficult position on the offensive line to master for three years as a starter after playing Tight End for the JV as a freshman. Lansing signed a letter of intent to play Offensive Tackle for Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Jack Olwig ’22 Named First Team All-Metro

PORTRAITS OF

LEADERSHIP 17 portraits. 17 presidents. 17 leaders. For generations of Chaminade students, whenever they walked the main floor of Chaminade Hall, they would pass by and be looked upon by 17 portraits of the presidents that have led us since 1910; every man from Father August Frische who laid the foundation for the school, to Father Walter Golatka and Father Sylvester Juergens who led the school through the Great Depression, to Brother Robert Minges who took us through the heights of the 1980s. These portraits serve as daily reminders for our students, faculty, and staff of the legacy they are a part of and the role we all play in continuing it.

On May 6, 2022, before our last Friday liturgy of the school year, the portrait of Father Ralph Siefert was unveiled. Upon revealing, President Guidry remarked, “As you pass this portrait in the hallway, take time to remember what Fr. Ralph wanted most for you, to be formed in your faith, to be the best version of yourself, to help others become the best version of themselves, and to become more aware of the man God is calling you to be.” Fr. Ralph served as president for 33 years, far longer than any other president in Chaminade history. For more than a quarter of a century, he taught us the meaning of Esto Vir, and forever impacted Catholic, Marianist education in St. Louis and around the country. The lives he touched are countless. Fr. Ralph was a hero to a generation and will always be a portrait of leadership. It is only fitting that his image takes its rightful place amongst the other leaders who have come before. 18 portraits. 18 presidents. 18 leaders. Esto Vir. Forever.

ALUMNI NEWS

A LETTER TO

ALUMNI

It is with great pride and pleasure that I write my first letter as President of the Alumni Association. I have been on the Alumni Board for 14 years now which includes the tenures of seven past presidents (Chris Coulter, ’92; Mike Sudekum, ’93; Scott Bader, ’76; Mike Schleuter, ’91; Peter Sheahan, ’82; Chris Marischen, ’05; and Aaron Thompson, ’03). If I can do half as good a job as any of these fine gentlemen, then the Alumni Board is in great shape. As my first official duty as president, I am very excited to welcome the members of the class of 2022 to the Chaminade Alumni Association. Congratulations on your graduation and good luck in all your future endeavors. We hope to see you back on campus in the years to come. To the newly minted alumni from the class of 2022 (and any other alumni who don’t know him), I would like to take a second to introduce you to Mr. David Nolda, the Director of Alumni and Constituent Relations. He is the staff liaison to the Alumni Association and his dedication to Chaminade over the years has been astounding. There are more than 145 alumni mentors representing 40 different professions who are willing to help guide you as you discern your career paths. Mr. Nolda can help connect you with these mentors and they can be a great help to you. Our alumni base is full of dynamic and charismatic men and families who have so much to offer. Please consider sharing your time and talents with the school. If you have not done so already, please stay informed by subscribing to the Alumni News and Notes email, which is sent bi-weekly. If you are not currently receiving it, you can update your contact info at www.chaminade-stl.org/updateinfo. Finally, I would like to address the entire Chaminade family. These past few years have been challenging to say the least. I am extremely proud of the way the Chaminade administration, faculty, staff, and students have conducted themselves through all the adversity. As we navigate these trying times, with so much division and anger in the world, it is important to recognize the things that unite us. The Chaminade family is one of those uniting forces. Remember the powerful words of Jesus himself in John 13:34, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Please be kind to each other. Take care of each other. Love one another. That is the true meaning of family.

ADVANCEMENT UPDATE Record-Setting Give Chaminade Day On April 28 we celebrated Give Chaminade Day with a goal to raise $112,000. In just 24 hours, the Chaminade Family made a significant impact on the Esto Vir journey of each of our students. To help the Chaminade family see what this day of giving makes possible for our students, sophomores Bubba Chapman and Chernet Kelrick took us through a typical day at Chaminade via videos posted on social media. In addition, we hosted two livestream sessions – the first one during lunch where we visited with faculty and students and the other one was from the 6th grade experiential trip in the Grand Tetons with President Dr. Todd Guidry. To inspire the Chaminade family to support our students on Give Chaminade Day, friends of Chaminade provided a $40,000 bonus match opportunity. For every $18,000 raised, Chaminade received $10,000 in bonus matching funds. A special thank you to this group of donors for providing the bonus match which elevated our Giving Day to new heights. We are overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity of the Chaminade Family. With your support, we not only met our fundraising goal, but exceeded it! Thank you very much for your continued support of the young men of Chaminade.

NEW RESIDENT HALL

CONTINUING THE LEGACY Chaminade has a proud boarding tradition dating back to our founding in 1910. For more than a century Chaminade has hosted students from all over the United States and the world. The resident program has evolved over the years as the needs of our families and students changed. This past school year we served students from all over the United States and the world with seven different states and 14 different countries, including Mexico, Canada, China, and Thailand. Our culturally diverse learning environment allows us to create a family atmosphere that is a trademark of a Marianist education. Having a robust resident program makes Chaminade unique and serves our students in a way that very few schools can offer. The resident program allows for rich cultural diversity within our own classrooms. These students bring a global perspective into our activities and discussions in ways that benefit our entire community. Having contact with and access to students from all over the world on a daily basis is a huge asset to the Chaminade educational experience. And, conversely, as our resident students leave Chaminade and go back to their communities, the education, the values, and the virtues they’ve learned go with them and influence the people they will encounter every day.

A vital piece to the long-term viability of the resident program is a modern place for the students to call home. And while Canning Hall has served as home for many students over the past 50+ years, it is overdue that we would have a resident hall that is better equipped to meet the needs of a 21st Century diverse student population. By embarking on a project to provide a new facility to house our resident students, Chaminade is committing to an ongoing rich and diverse environment for all of our students. We know that this environment is vital for them to succeed in the global community of tomorrow. A number of years ago, Fr. Ralph began silently fundraising for a new 86-bed resident hall, that is to sit near right field of the old baseball field, directly behind Canning Hall. The current plans for the building include large community spaces, 4-person suites with private bathrooms, prefect suites, and an outdoor gathering space. Fr. Ralph’s goal, his last year at Chaminade before he retired, was to finalize plans for the resident hall. It was to be his last great contribution to the school. We have spent this year working to honor his vision. To date we have raised $7M towards the $12.5M goal for the project. The $7M has largely been raised by friends of Chaminade who wanted to support Fr. Ralph’s vision for the school. Thanks to the leadership of Randy Medrano ’82 and John Stobbs ’82, we have launched a fundraising effort among our alumni, specifically our resident alumni who were most impacted by the resident program, to secure the remaining funds needed for this project. If you are interested in learning more about the resident hall project or would like to discuss making a gift to this effort, contact Julie Lohr, Director of Development, at 314-6926652 or jlohr@chaminade-stl.org.

CHAMINADE

ADMISSIONS It has been an incredibly busy Spring season in the Admissions Department. We were delighted to congratulate the Class of 2026-both our current 8th grade Chaminade students as well as the nearly 50 new students that will be joining the class. They’re proudly sporting their Chaminade ‘26 class sweatshirts.

students with the theme being “get involved and try something new- it’s okay to get out of your comfort zone”. Then the incoming families heard words of wisdom from Principal Rone, Dunlap before hearing from Mr. Vlahutin, Mr. Fernandez and Mr. Twellman to help prepare them for the fall. The night concluded with the newest Red Devils enjoying a social hour with appetizers and root beer floats and a performance by the Chaminade Jazz Band. They appreciated meeting other members of their classes. We were thrilled to see the Skip alive with so much excitement!

In March we welcomed the return of the annual Chaminade Middle School Amazing Race. Over 80 prospective middle school students raced all over campus and participated in activities that demonstrated all the offerings of the middle school. Our Chaminade Ambassadors even got to teach them how to play the very popular Chaminade invented game of “Over-Under” and end the night with an ice cream social.

We are wrapping up the Shadow program and enjoyed having nearly 500 guests on campus this year to experience a day in the life of a Red Devil. We also toured prospective students from Loyola Academy and City Academy. These students’ questions were sharp and gave us a chance to brag about everything we love at Chaminade. Our ambassadors’ eagerness and pride in Chaminade was evident with every guest they hosted. It was a collaborative effort indeed!

At the beginning of April, we hosted a New Family Night for all new students and parents. Jack Olwig ‘22 shared his best senior insights and advice to the incoming
