Director’s Notes Welcome to Luck of the Draw ‘22! It’s been a few years since we’ve been able to do this show, and I’m so happy that we’re finally back. You didn’t come here to read my notes, so I’ll just say: I love this show. I love everything about the process of working on this show. The joy I get from this process far outweighs those moments when I wonder why I was foolish enough to do this.

Improv is where my heart truly lies, because I love the collaboration, and I get to be much less of a director and more of a teacher. Improv is about discovery, and more than anything else, I want these kids to discover their voice. I want them to embrace their creativity and be brave. I want them to take chances and let go of trying to be perfect. I want them to make mistakes and realize that those mistakes don’t define them. I want them to recognize that what they’re doing here is hard, and to give themselves credit for having the courage and the audacity to attempt it.

I mean, what could be more terrifying than improvising an entire musical? It’s the Actor’s Nightmare x 1000. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t work, but going through this process will make them better performers. If they can do this, they can do anything. It has been an honor to work with this cast, and I hope you enjoy the show.
