Dear Patron of the Arts,
So did ya hear the story of the Johnstone twins?
I remember being introduced to this folk musical back in the 90s when I was watching the Tony awards thinking “what a powerful piece of musical theatre and boy I love the Brits.”
Themes of superstition, social class and inequality, family, friendship, love, loss, and childhood games leading to adult violence are highlighted and narrated by a mysterious narrator who guides us through the story in all its twists and turns leading to a tearful ending. I recently read an article asking the question “Is it time for Blood Brothers to Come Back to Broadway?” The article referred to the show as “the gritty, heart-wrenching British musical by Willy Russell that’s equal parts social commentary, Greek tragedy, and kitchen sink realism.” The writer seemed to think perhaps it was time. This director agrees. Blood Brothers does continue to tour the UK even now, after being the third longest running show on the West End.
This is a throwback production for us. In 2011, Blood Brothers was the final production produced in the Bob Hope Center before we moved into the Tutor Family Center for the Performing Arts. Then as now, we had the perfect cast for this show. Our production then starred an outstanding cast made up of real life twins, Ian and Matt Fairlee as our Blood Brothers, Lily Richards at Mrs. Johnstone, and Trevor Berger as the Narrator, as well as a cast of other luminous artists who have gone on to continue working in the business of show.
I am thankful to have the opportunity to bring this story to life again! Thankful for this wonderful cast of 2025, this dedicated crew, the amazing parents who take such good care of us and all who support us as we strive to create theatre that surpasses all expectations. And aren’t we blessed to have the desire to share live stories in a beautiful facility created for that purpose? Theatre lives!
Thank you for joining us in Liverpool. Where…” If you cross your fingers and if you count from one to ten, you can get up off the ground again. It doesn’t matter, the whole things just a game.”
Enjoy our storytelling.
Yours in the Arts, Yvette Lawrence Bishop Director of Theatre Program www.chaminadeplayers.org
