PRESIDENT'S LETTER Dear Chaminade Family, There is something special about Chaminade’s campus in the summer. The rhythm changes, but the mission never pauses. While another successful school year has ended, our campus remains filled with energy and purpose. Throughout the summer, over 2,500 young boys and girls fill our fields, classrooms, and gymnasiums through Camp Chaminade, discovering new interests, building friendships, and experiencing the welcoming spirit that has defined this place for nearly a century. At the same time, behind the scenes, dedicated faculty and staff are preparing every corner of campus to welcome our students back in September. Summer at Chaminade has never been an off-season. It is a season of renewal. This summer we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Province of Meribah. Just as our Marianist mission continually calls us to renew our hearts and recommit ourselves to forming young men of faith and character, summer allows us to renew our campus for another year of that work. In June we also celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2026. Watching those young men receive their diplomas was both a joyful conclusion and a hopeful beginning. They arrived here as freshmen searching for who they might become. They left as Chaminade Men: grounded in faith, strengthened in character, committed to service, and prepared to lead with humility and courage. As one chapter closes, another immediately begins. Throughout the summer, our campus has been transformed in preparation for September. Thomas Field is receiving a beautiful new turf surface that will serve generations of Flyers. Thanks to the 2026 Senior Class Gift, our main lobby is being renovat-
ed to create an even more welcoming and secure entrance for students, parents, alumni, and visitors. Across campus, classrooms are being painted, buildings refreshed, hallways polished, and countless maintenance projects completed. Every improvement, whether visible or behind the scenes, reflects our commitment to providing an environment worthy of the young men entrusted to our care. Soon our returning students will once again fill the halls with the sounds we cherish most…morning prayer, classroom discussions, laughter between friends, and the unmistakable energy that makes Chaminade feel like home. This September, we will also welcome the Class of 2030: our Century Class. These young men will graduate during Chaminade's 100th anniversary, joining a remarkable story that began nearly a century ago. As we continue our journey toward 2030, we are reminded that our Centennial is not merely a celebration of the past. It is a promise about the future. Looking back on another outstanding school year, my heart is filled with gratitude - for our dedicated faculty and staff, our supportive parents, our generous alumni and benefactors, and, most especially, our students, whose faith, optimism, and brotherhood inspire us each day. As summer continues, we look forward with great anticipation to September and another remarkable year in the life of Chaminade. Together, let us continue building a future worthy of our past as we move confidently toward our centennial in 2030. We look forward to welcoming everyone home for the 2026-2027 school year, and drop in if you are in the area. That’s what families do! Go Flyers!
“As summer continues, we look forward with great anticipation to September and another remarkable year in the life of Chaminade.”
Bro. Thomas J. Cleary, S.M. ’81 President

Finding Their Purpose: CHAMINADE CELEBRATES THE CLASS OF 2026 AT THE 95TH COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES Chaminade High School proudly celebrated its 95th Commencement Exercises on Sunday, June 7, 2026, as family, friends, faculty, alumni, and members of the Marianist community gathered to honor the accomplishments of the graduating Class of 2026. The ceremony marked both the culmination of four years of academic excellence and faith formation and the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of Chaminade's newest alumni. Among the graduates recognized for their exceptional achievements was John H. Durham, recipient of the prestigious Chaminade Man of the Year Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Chaminade Alumni Association upon the most outstanding member of the senior class. The Class of 2026 also celebrated a unique academic distinction as twin brothers earned the school's highest scholastic honors: John Michael Gomes was named Valedictorian, while Joseph Laurence Gomes was recognized as Salutatorian. During the Baccalaureate Mass, Fr. Peter centered his homily on the importance of remaining rooted in Christ,

reminding the graduates that "participation leads to communion" as they continue to embrace both the joys and challenges of life while remaining active participants in the life of Christ. His words served as a fitting spiritual sendoff for the newest generation of Chaminade alumni. In his commencement address, Principal Robert Paul ’92 challenged the graduates to carry the values they developed at Chaminade into every aspect of their lives. He encouraged them to "find your purpose… be resilient… see the person in front of you. Treat them as if they matter." His message reminded the graduates that success is measured not only by achievement, but also by compassion, perseverance, and service to others. As the graduates crossed the stage and officially joined the ranks of Chaminade alumni, they carried with them the school's enduring Marianist mission to learn, lead, and serve with faith, integrity, and purpose. The Class of 2026 now begins its next journey equipped to make a meaningful difference in their communities and in the world.

DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE PLACEMENT RECEIVES GOLDEN GUIDE AWARD One of the hallmarks of a Chaminade education is the personalized guidance students receive as they prepare for life beyond Mineola Boulevard. That commitment was recognized at Chaminade’s commencement this year when Matthew Kaplan ’97, Chaminade’s Director of College Placement, received the University of Notre Dame’s Golden Guide Award, an honor presented to outstanding college counselors who demonstrate exceptional dedication to helping students navigate the college search and application process. Mr. Kaplan has spent his career helping young men identify schools where they will thrive academically, personally, and spiritually. Through countless individual meetings, thoughtful advice, and steadfast encouragement, he has guided generations of students and families through one of the most significant decisions of their lives. His expertise, integrity, and genuine care have helped Chaminade graduates earn admission to many of the nation’s most selective colleges and universities while remaining focused on finding the right fit for each individual student. The Golden Guide Award is a fitting recognition of Mr. Kaplan’s tireless commitment to his students and to the Marianist mission of forming young men for leadership and service.

CHAMINADE NEWS
When Brotherhood Holds a Deeper Meaning For the members of Chaminade High School's Class of 2026, graduation day was more than a celebration of academic achievement; it was the culmination of four years of Marianist formation. As graduates crossed the stage to receive their diplomas, they did so not simply as accomplished students, but as young men formed by a community rooted in fraternity and the conviction that no one succeeds alone… Fortes in Unitate. That spirit of brotherhood was evident throughout the ceremony, perhaps most concretely through the historic naming of John and Joseph Gomes as Chaminade's first twin brothers valedictorian and salutatorian. Both John and Joseph’s speeches were rooted in the relationships that carried them and their fellow Flyers throughout their high school journey.
them that authentic success is measured not by personal achievement, but by lives lived in service to others. This core message of interdependence reflects the fraternity that Chaminade intentionally cultivates, a brotherhood in which students celebrate one another's successes, shoulder one another's burdens, and grow together through every challenge. Additionally, in his valedictorian address, John Gomes pointed toward the audience to recognize his parents, telling those gathered that the two proudest people in the room were not on the stage but sitting among the families whose sacrifices had made the graduates' accomplishments possible. Every Chaminade diploma represents years of unwavering love and support from parents, families, teachers, and mentors.
"To have one son named valedictorian is a huge achievement in itself," Mrs. Barbara Gomes, mother of John and Joseph, reflected, "but to have his twin named salutatorian is just beyond words." As she listened to both speeches, Mrs. Gomes was moved by the gratitude and humility that filled every word from her sons. Each brother used his address to recognize the people who had shaped his Chaminade experience: parents, teachers, classmates, and mentors. Joseph's salutatory address challenged his classmates to carry Chaminade's values into the next chapter of their lives. "The second that we have to choose between any material success and the love we have for those around us," he told the graduating class, "we must choose love." As his classmates prepare to pursue studies across the country, he reminded
John also reflected on one of the defining lessons of his Chaminade education: awards, titles, and accomplishments are temporary, but the relationships formed along the way endure. As he later reflected, the greatest part of his high school experience was never the recognition he received, but the friendships, faculty mentorship, and sense of belonging that transformed four years into a lifelong brotherhood. Watching each of his classmates cross the stage, Joseph Gomes reflected on the friendships that began during 3-C Week as freshmen and deepened in classrooms, on retreats, through athletics, in service opportunities, and in countless everyday moments. Looking ahead to Brown University, where he will study alongside John, the Marianist ideals of community and service will continue to guide him.

“What will remain with us from Chaminade as our sons move into the next chapter?” posit Dr. and Mrs. Gomes. “Many things. Faith, compassion, brotherhood. As parents, we take comfort in knowing they have formed friendships that will continue for years to come.” Together, the Gomes brothers represent the core of the school’s sense of fraternity that is shaping Chaminade’s identity as we move towards the centennial celebration. Their words are remarkable because they remind us of what Chaminade hopes every graduate carries beyond its walls: a faith strengthened through prayer, a commitment to serve others, and the understanding that true excellence is relational. As the members of the Class of 2026 step confidently into the future, they leave with far more than diplomas. They depart as lifelong brothers, formed by a Marianist education that calls them to lead with humility, to place love before personal success, and to walk forward together in faith. The applause that filled the auditorium celebrated not only what these young men had accomplished over the past four years, but the men they had become and the brotherhood that will continue to unite them long after commencement.

CHAMINADE NEWS
Driving the Mission Forward THE 55TH ANNUAL CHAMINADE GOLF CLASSIC SETS NEW RECORDS IN SUPPORT OF THE TORCH FUND For more than five decades, the Chaminade Golf Classic has united alumni, parents, friends, and supporters around a common purpose: ensuring that the tradition of excellence in Marianist education continues for future generations. The 55th Annual Chaminade Golf Classic, held on June 22, proved once again why it remains the school's premier fundraising event, setting new records for both participation and philanthropy. This year's outing welcomed a record 648 golfers who teed off across five of Nassau County's most prestigious golf courses before returning to campus for an evening of fellowship and celebration. More than 700 guests attended the cocktail reception, dinner, and live auction, making the event one of the largest gatherings of the Chaminade community each year. The Golf Classic benefits the Chaminade Torch Fund, which helps bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the actual cost of providing a Chaminade education. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of sponsors, participants, donors, and volunteers, this year's event raised more than $1.7 million for the Torch Fund, another record-setting achievement. Every dollar raised directly supports the school's mission of forming young men in faith, scholarship, and service. This year's tournament also introduced a scramble format, creating a fun, team-oriented atmosphere while adding another level of friendly competition and energizing the pace of play. Participants also received exclusive Chaminade-branded gifts as part of their tournament experience. While weather required a slight adjustment to the evening's schedule, the festivities continued seamlessly on campus. Guests enjoyed the cocktail hour inside the Dolan Family Science, Technology, and Research Center, accompanied by live music from Harper's Ferry (Marty Kearns ’99 and John Pennacchio ’97), before moving to a spectacular 12,000-square-foot tent for dinner and the live auction. The elegant dinner, presented by Lessing's Hospitality Group, featured outstanding food, fellowship, raffles, silent and live auctions, an open bar, and a Scotch tasting. Special shout-out to Hart to Hart Entertainment (Mario Simone P ’26) for providing a top-notch audio-visual production and Greenport Harbor Brewery (John Liegey ’81 P ’16, ’20) for again providing

some great craft beers. Throughout the evening, alumni had the opportunity to reconnect with classmates while visiting with many beloved Chaminade teachers, coaches, and administrators, both past and present. The continued success of the Golf Classic is a testament to the leadership and dedication of countless volunteers and supporters. Executive Chairman and Chaminade CFO Ed Smith ’89 once again guided the event with exceptional vision and commitment. Reflecting on the event, Mr. Smith said, “The generosity of the Chaminade Family never ceases to amaze me. I am beyond grateful for the continued support of our generous sponsors at all levels and to the committee and other folks behind the scenes who make this marquee event something very special to the mission of Chaminade.” Longtime supporter Dick Kearns ’68, who has served as chairman of the Board of Advisors for more than 30 years, continues to play an invaluable role in sustaining the event's remarkable legacy. Mr. Kearns offered his thoughts on the Golf Classic, saying, “The success of the Golf Classic years ago led to the founding of the Torch Fund. It’s very rewarding to see our longest running fundraiser is still the biggest and the best, by all metrics. We owe it all to our loyal and ever growing group of sponsors and contributors.” The Chaminade Golf Classic is much more than a day on the course. It is a celebration of the enduring bonds that unite the Chaminade family and a powerful demonstration of the community's shared commitment to future generations of Flyers. Bro. Thomas Cleary, S.M. ’81, reflected, "There is one word I hear over and over again when alumni reminisce about Chaminade: brotherhood. The Golf Classic epitomizes that... when we gather back on campus, alumni from almost every decade, here to enjoy each other's friendship and support the school we love." As another record-setting year comes to a close, the impact of this extraordinary event will be felt in classrooms, athletic fields, campus ministries, and priceless student experiences for years to come.

Camp, the Chaminade Way A collaborative effort five years in the making, Chaminade has restructured and expanded its summer offerings into a new and exciting venture: Camp Chaminade. Camp Chaminade has undergone more than just a major rebranding
multiple camps in the same day and being much more intentional about how we communicate with families throughout the summer. None of this happens by accident. For many of these families, camp is their first introduction to Chaminade,
effort; it has made expansive changes that invite and support students of all ages in a wide variety of interests and needs. The debut of Camp Chaminade’s refreshed program offerings over the last two summers has thrived under the leadership of Mr. Guy LaCognata ’15 and now Mr. Andrew Salecker ’12. “Several years ago, we took an intentional look at enhancing the customer experience across our camp offerings, registration process, and program organization,” states Mr. Guy LaCognata, Chaminade’s director of communications and director of the camp program. “We asked ourselves: what does Chaminade mean to people? What we have continued to discover is that Chaminade is not merely a high school brand; it has many arms of engagement. We came up with a brand focus and motif that speaks to the motivations of a pioneering summer program while remaining tethered to the heart of what it means to be ‘Chaminade.’” “The camp program is a really great way to offer participants that ‘Chaminade experience’ that sets our school apart,” states Mr. Andrew Salecker ’12. “Many of our camps are extensions of our school activities, like Culinary Club or Speech & Debate. We also made our camp day a full-day experience, with morning and afternoon sessions bridged together by lunch service for all participants, made possible by our partnership with Lessing’s. Parents have the peace of mind and students have the exploratory potential to be a part of our campus experience for a full day if they so choose. There are so many options for participants. We have made every effort in providing exceptional hospitality for all.” "Every year, we ask ourselves how we can make the camp experience easier and better for families; that's led to real changes,” explains Chief Operating Officer Mr. Brian Crimmins ’95. “It starts with small yet impactful changes, like adjusting our schedules so campers can move between
and we want that first experience to reflect who we are." “The athletic camps, now 12 and counting, have grown in number to fit the incredible demand for a variety of age groups,” states Mr. John Honerkamp ’93, athletic director. “Our programs also contribute to the admissions effort of the school in giving kids and parents early exposure to the Chaminade campus.” “We really strive to make known our unique spirit of Marianist hospitality for all program participants before, during, and even after Camp Chaminade,” states Mr. Guy LaCognata. “From the rebranding to the updated website and seamless registration process, parents and students alike receive top-tier customer service from our staff right from the onset. Many of Chaminade’s camps are open to boys and girls, as young as fifth grade, which is a really nice way to extend Chaminade’s hospitality to families who would otherwise never interact with our school.” “We also have programs, like our reading and math camps, specifically designed for those young men who will be entering Chaminade as freshmen, which provides a natural foundation for peer connection and confidence in what is a big transition in their academic lives," says Guy. "We continue that support with program offerings for upperclassmen as well. Camp Chaminade extends an invitation to young men and women from every age in a wide array of academic, enrichment, and fun opportunities for personal growth.” “The growth of Chaminade's camp program is a testament to what happens when a community comes together with a shared vision,” reflects Bro. Thomas Cleary, S.M. ’81. “As we've expanded our offerings and reached more families than ever before, we've remained focused on one goal: providing exceptional experiences that introduce young people to the spirit, values, and lifelong community that define Chaminade.”

Chaminade Leadership Summit CONNECTED LEADERSHIP 22 | YEAR IN REVIEW | SUMMER 2026
THE CHAMINADE FAMILY MAGAZINE
On May 1–2, 2026, Chaminade High School welcomed hundreds of alumni, parents, students, and business leaders back to campus for the second annual Chaminade Leadership Summit (CLS). Building on the momentum of its inaugural year, CLS ’26 confirmed that the event has become a signature gathering for conversations about leadership, character, and service. This year’s theme, Connected Leadership, explored how relationships, collaboration, and shared purpose drive effective leadership in a complex world: an idea that ran through every keynote, breakout session, and networking moment across the two days. Following opening ceremonies, which included prayer and a stirring rendition of “God Bless the USA” by the Glee Club, attendees chose from 18 breakout sessions led by executives, entrepreneurs, military leaders, healthcare professionals, and industry experts. Topics ranged from philanthropy and crisis communication to entrepreneurship, workplace wellness, global markets, and artificial intelligence, each grounded in the Summit’s central theme. The keynotes offered two distinct but equally compelling perspectives on leadership. Friday’s conversation brought together Brian Hull ’77, Executive Vice Chairman of UBS Americas, and James Keenan ’94, former Chief Investment Officer of BlackRock, moderated by Sean Kilduff ’88, Senior Vice President of UBS and President of Chaminade’s Alumni Board. Their discussion of leadership at the highest levels of global finance centered on humility, mentorship, and building organizations rooted in trust. Saturday’s keynote closed the Summit on a deeply personal note. Former University of Michigan basketball player Austin Hatch shared his story of surviving two plane crashes that claimed the lives of his immediate family. His honesty and resilience challenged attendees to see adversity as an opportunity for growth—a reminder that leadership is forged through courage and faith, not comfort. Beyond the programming, CLS ’26 was defined by connection. Friday evening’s cocktail reception in the Science Research & Technology Center brought speakers, sponsors, and attendees together to continue conversations sparked throughout the day. The Summit closed Saturday on Faerber Field with a BBQ and beer courtesy of Greenport Harbor Brewery co-founder John Liegey ’81.
New this year was the Fortes Forum mobile app, which served as CLS’s digital hub, giving attendees access to schedules, speaker bios, campus maps, and session materials, while letting them build a personalized conference experience that continued after the Summit ended. Behind the summit’s success is a dedicated team: Brian Crimmins ’95, Chief Operating Officer, providing strategic leadership; Greg Kay ’98, Chief Academic Officer, shaping the educational vision; and Deborah Kendric, CLS Administrator, coordinating speakers, sponsors, and logistics. Their collaborative work, together with the generosity of more than 30 corporate sponsors and benefactors, has transformed CLS into an event that grows in scope and impact each year while staying rooted in Chaminade’s Marianist mission. “What struck me most this year was the energy in the room, the sense that something special was happening in real time,” said Brian Crimmins ’95. “So many of our speakers are Chaminade graduates, which means the leadership lessons they’re sharing were shaped, at least in part, right here on this campus. That’s what makes this different from any other conference: it’s not a room of strangers, it’s the Chaminade Family gathering to invest in each other. That shared bond is why we’re already achieving in year two what most industry conferences spend a decade trying to build.” The response from attendees reflected that energy. Post-event surveys found that 70% of participants said the Summit exceeded their expectations, and 95% indicated they would attend again. Ninety-one percent reported making meaningful connections during the two-day event—validating one of CLS’s core goals: bringing together leaders across professions and generations to build relationships that outlast the conference itself. Attendees praised the “conversations across generations” and the “quality speakers with relevant topics and actionable content,” describing CLS as “an excellent forum for both networking and learning.” One attendee summed it up simply: CLS ’26 was “a tour de force.” As the second annual CLS came to a close, one thing was clear: Connected Leadership is more than a theme; it’s a call to action. Through meaningful conversations, lasting relationships, and a shared commitment to servant leadership, CLS continues to strengthen a network of leaders dedicated to making a difference wherever they’re called to serve.
