TRANSPORTATION | BY THURSDAY, APRIL 1, 2021 Section 3635 of New York State Education Law requires all non-city districts to provide transportation for pupils enrolled in grades 9-12 who live more than three miles from the school they attend and less than a distance of 15 miles. You must contact your school district directly in order to obtain the information for your district’s transportation application process. The state deadline for this request is Thursday, April 1, 2021. HEALTH PHYSICALS | AFTER TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 2021 New York State requires Chaminade High School to have on flle an updated immunization record and physical for every freshman. Additionally, Chaminade requires a physical for every student for all four years. Since this physical must cover an entire year, it must be completed after Tuesday, June 1, 2021, in order to be valid until June 30, 2022. Please note: • Appointments held before Tuesday, June 1, 2021, will not be accepted. You should defer your regular insurance-covered appointment until after Tuesday, June 1, 2021. • Insurance carriers only cover one physical per year. • Do not schedule an appointment for late August or early September. Your information may not be ready by the start of school. Chaminade will not allow students to attend classes if their physicals have not been accepted. • If you do have a conflict scheduling an appointment in time, you will need to get a second, out-of-pocket physical from a walk-in clinic. You will also need a copy of your updated immunizations record from your regular doctor.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE PLACEMENT THURSDAY, JUNE 3, 2021 & MONDAY, JUNE 7, 2021 | 3:30 P.M. Students who have previously taken a foreign language may advance before the start of their freshman year. Students who wish to be considered for advanced placement into Chinese II, French II, Latin II, or Spanish II are invited to sit for a placement examination in the course. This examination covers all the topics of the course. Students who advance will take a fifth-level course in their senior year.
IPAD DISTRIBUTION | MONDAY, AUGUST 30, 2021 Students and parents are invited to Chaminade together on this day. Following a welcome presentation, students report to their homerooms, meet their classmates, and receive their iPads. Meanwhile, parents learn more about the school from members of the faculty. You will receive more information on this event as it draws closer.
3-C PROGRAM TUESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2021 - THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2021 | 8:30 A.M. - 3 P.M. The 3-C Program, so named for “community, confidence, and commitment,” helps freshmen get to know their new school. It is very normal for a young man to experience a range of fears, worries, and concerns when entering high school. Some of the most common expressions of these anxieties are, “I don’t know many people going there,” “I hope that I can get good grades” and, “I’m not sure that I want to go.” The 3-C Program gives new Chaminade students a wide range of experiences and activities to help develop a sense of community, the experience of confidence, and growth in commitment they seek. Activities and Courses Each day will provide a variety of experiences. Students will focus on each of the three Cs and receive some background instruction in basic skills in preparation for the academic demands of the freshman year. Sessions focus on study skills, notetaking, and time management. Throughout the three days, students will also learn more about the religious experience at Chaminade as well as the various clubs and activities they may wish to join. Further, there will be athletic competition in a range of sports. Many of the 3-C Program’s experiences are designed to give the students opportunities to do things together, thereby making new friends and getting to know members of the faculty. Students will also share spiritual experiences in the chapel and retreat center and explore topics such as time management, digital citizenship, and each of the three Cs. No formal homework will be given during the 3-C Program. Perhaps most importantly, students should expect to have very busy, and fun, days during 3-C.
