Chamber Choir Ireland in collaboration with Learning & Participation, National Concert Hall, will continue their popular Tuesday lunchtime lecture series curated by Stuart Kinsella, exploring the broad history of Irish choral music, both amateur and professional.

Talks will include musical illustrations by members of Chamber Choir Ireland.

Dr Kerry Houston is head of academic studies at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama and will look at music in Irish cathedrals from the restoration of King Charles II to the Act of Union.

Dr Ita Beausang, emeritus lecturer at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama will consider Handel’s visit to Dublin in 1742 in the context of choral music in Ireland from 1660 to 1760.

David O’Shea is a doctoral student in the music department of Trinity College, Dublin and will discuss performance practice in Church of Ireland cathedrals and parishes from the Union to Independence.

Sandra Joyce (Director, Irish World Academy, Limerick) Dr Sandra Joyce is director of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick, and will address interactions between choral and Irish traditional music in 20th-century Ireland.
