Aquinas Senior Connects With Ghana’s Youth Through Tennis

W

hen presented with the opportunity to travel to Ghana this past summer to volunteer at a youth tennis camp, Aquinas senior Bernard Alexander didn’t hesitate to get on the plane.

Bernard’s father, Abraham Steiner, an educator in the Rochester City School District and a native Ghanaian, organizes the trip to Accra, Ghana each year – bringing with him fellow educators, community members, philanthropists and this year, his son Bernard.

The two-week long tennis camp is a free program meant to positively engage Ghanaian children who come from underprivileged communities.

Bernard and his father work specifically Bernard Alexander with the St. Francis Foundation, a Catholic Youth Organization that makes the camp accessible to children who would not otherwise be able to afford it. Prior to their trip, they gathered and shipped tennis balls, tennis racquets and clothing that they were able to distribute to camp participants upon their arrival.

“The camp is a really big deal for many of the kids,” said Bernard. “The last three days of it they run a tournament with a cash prize of $20,000 GCD [$1,000 USD] that the winner can use for scholarship.

“I think the children here don’t see how good they have it sometimes,” remarked Steiner. “I wanted him to see poverty in Africa and how out of that, children are doing well through sports and in other areas – give him another view of the world.”

“Because it’s universal, tennis was how I connected with the kids at the camp.,” Bernard stated.”

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren is planning a conference designed to empower attendees personally, economically and professionally.

The “Inspiring Our Community: Today, Tomorrow and Always!” conference is scheduled for Saturday, October 13 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center and will feature workshops on a variety of issues and a keynote address from Marvin McMickle, President of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.

“Each day, I receive numerous calls from residents asking for assistance on a variety of matters, such has how to better advocate for their children, manage their finances or even how to successfully navigate friendships and community relationships,” Mayor Warren said. “That is why I am hosting this conference, to connect our residents to service providers from the private sector, city and county government and other agencies to help equip people with the knowledge and resources to empower them.”

The event will be the third part of a series of conferences developed by the mayor to inspire and empower residents.

Residents of the LangfieldKenfield homes will meet with interim executive director of the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, Gillian Brown to discuss tenant concerns. The meeting will take place on Oct. 3 at Kensington Middle and High School on Suffolk Street and is being sponsored by University District Councilman Rasheed N.C. Wyatt.

On Friday, September 28th family and friends of Rafael “Pito” Rivera gathered at Niagara Square to demand justice for his murder. Pito, a son, father brother and friend, was killed on September 12 by Offficer Elnur Karadzhaev. He was described as “ an amazing person who looked out for his family. He was a lover of learning and knowledge who touched many lives in this community.” His loss, supporters declared, will not go without justice. Officer Elmur Karadzhaev took the life of a beloved community member. “I want justice for my nephew,” said a relative at the rally.

“Three shots were too much!” Another declared, “we are not about to let this get swept under the rug!” One protestor summed it up this way: “When they killed Pito, the police shot and killed all of us….” India Walton, a community organizer for Open Buffalo stated in an op-ed piece in the Buffalo News: “Justice for Pito doesn’t just mean Officer Karadzhaev will be fired. It doesn’t just mean that District Attorney John Flynn will bring appropriate criminal charges against the perpetrator of this tragedy. Justice for Pito means that tragedies like this won’t happen in the first place. It means perhaps officers will think about who they must answer to before using force.”

On July 13, 1835 the Daily Commercial Advertiser (Buffalo, NY reported the following: “Yesterday afternoon our streets were thronged by a mob under considerable excitement, produced by the arrest of a slave family and their subsequent rescue… a slave agent from the south, having learned a family of slaves, consisting of a man [Stanford], his wife, and a child, were living at St. Catharines (Canada) went over and brought them away in the night. They were followed to this city, when a party of Blacks organized and pursued the kidnappers as far as Hamburg, where they effected a rescue, and bore the liberated individuals off in triumph with the intention of placing them again on the Canadian side, but when at the ferry, at Black Rock, a reencounter took place between them and several citizens, who had been called by the police to assist in arresting them, which resulted in some severe injuries on both sides.

The slaves succeeded in making good their escape. Eight or ten of the Blacks engaged in the riot had to stand trial.”

William Wells Brown In 1836 escaped slave and Black Abolitionist lecturer and writer, William Wells Brown moved to Buffalo.

Brown and members of Buffalo's Anti-Slave Society would watch for servants of the wealthy southerners visiting Niagara Falls. Secretly separating them from their masters, they would tell slaves that as New York was a free State, they were free.

In the 1842 he took 70 slaves to their freedom. William Wells Brown lived at 13 Pine Street. In 1844 after lecturing in Attica, New York, Brown was refused accommodation.

The next year he left Buffalo forever.

First Lady Embarks on Trip to Africa With Some Heavy Trump Baggage in Tow As First Lady Melania Trump embarks on her trip to Africa, some of the Donald’s charged language about the continent may make it a bit interesting.

President Trump maligned African countries and Haiti as “shitholes,” and he spoke of Nigerian immigrants as having lived in huts back home.

Then there was the lengthy crusade he led claiming that Barack Obama was a Kenyan citizen, and not eligible for the presidency. The First Lady has some lingering diplomatic baggage of her own. In 2011, the Slovenian-born Mrs. Trump also suggested that Mr. Obama had not been born in America. And this year, she made a thousand headlines by wearing a jacket emblazoned with the phrase “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” on the way to visit a Texas shelter for detained migrant children.

Hackers Expose Data of 50 Million Facebook Users Facebook said last Friday that an attack on its computer network had exposed the personal information of nearly 50 million users.

Officer Is Charged in Shooting Death of Black Man on a Nashville Sidewalk A White police officer in Nashville who fatally shot a Black man who was running away from him has been charged with criminal homicide. In a video of the July 26 shooting, which prosecutors released last month, Officer Andrew Delke, 25, of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department can be seen chasing the man, Daniel Hambrik, and firing several rounds at him from behind. Officer Delke fired at Mr. Hambrick four times, striking him three times, - once in the back and once in the left torso. The officer is expected to plead not guilty. His next court date, a preliminary hearing, is scheduled for Oct. 30. The shooting has spurred protest and civic action.

Spontaneous Combustion: Art Meets Jazz Expo68 Art & Design and JazzBuffalo have collaborated to present Spontaneous Combustion: Art Meets Jazz, a new series featuring eleven artists and four jazz performances.

The exhibition will have an opening reception on Saturday, October 6 and run through November 1. The gallery, located at located at 4545 Transit in the Eastern Hills Mall , will display artworks produced by 11 prominent, as well as, emerging local artists. The series will also feature four scheduled jazz performances by some of Buffalo’s best jazz performers.

The name of exhibition “Spontaneous Combustion” is inspired by the title of an album released by the late great artist Cannonball Adderley that evokes the spirit of when art meets jazz. The show will feature artworks by Tim Brooks, John Baker, Tom Coyne, Betty Pitts Foster, Enid Edelman, Cashis Green, CherisseLippss, Robin Mols, Shantelle Patton, William Rios, and Gerald Seals.

Varietal artworks, inspired by jazz, will consist of paintings, watercolors, sketches, photography and etc. The artists have displayed their artworks in multiple galleries, including the Burchfield Penney Art Center.

The four scheduled jazz performances will take place during the opening reception on Saturday, October 6 and on 3 consecutive Thursdays in October from 7 pm to 9 pm. The jazz artists will consist of the Lance Tanner Duo on October 6, Greg Millar Quartet on October 11, Tim Clarke Soul-Tet on October 18, and The Hot Club of Buffalo on October 25.

Talented Young Black Professionals Bring Diversity, Sensitivity to Local Television News

any readers still remember when Max Robinson became the first African American broadcast network news anchor in the U.S., serving as part of a powerhouse trio on ABC World News Tonight starting in 1978.

Locally, John Winston of WKBW-Ch7 was the first Black news reporter in the Buffalo television market.

From his background in medicine, he produced the documentary “Is There a Doctor In the Ghetto?” which addressed a subject still topical today; disparities between available medical care for differing populations. Chuck Lampkin, after retiring from music as a drummer for the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and Count Basie, became Buffalo's first regular Black news anchor on WNED (precursor to WIVB-Ch4) in 1970.

Standing on the shoulders of these pioneers, is our current crop of Black television news

Easily the most recognizable of the group is Buffalo-bred Claudine Ewing of WGRZ. Ewing has been with Channel 2 since 1998.

“As a child, I always wanted to be a journalist,” said Ewing.

She graduated from Performing Arts High, and took her affinity for writing on to Buff-State’s broadcast journalism program. She has a slew of awards and honorable mentions to her credit from the National Association of Black Journalists, the Associated Press, and the New York State Emmy Awards. One story that stands out in Ewing’s career is that of Madesen Grant, born premature at twenty-five weeks. Ewing covered the child’s thriving from an infant fitting in the palm of a hand, to an honors graduate with an acceptance letter to Spelman College in her own hand.

Fadia Patterson of Spectrum News-Buffalo counts Nashville newsman Chris Clark (who discovered Oprah Winfrey) among her mentors and confidantes. Patterson’s route began at an unlikely starting point. She was accepted to several music schools to study opera. “Between secondary jobs and constant auditions, I realized opera would have been a hard life.”

With a Master’s in journalism, she’s been in the news business for eight years between Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, and now Buffalo. Born in Brooklyn, her roots stretch back to Haiti, Jamaica, and the DominicanRepublic.Patterson added “everything down to dress, language, and music was of Latin influence, that is the home I grew up in.”

Patterson recognizes there are stories that come her way specifically because of her multicultural background.

“I’m an Afro-Latin journal-ist. I’m also the daughter of immigrants. It’s not unique that people tend to share with others who have similar back-grounds to themselves.”

Patterson remembers most a story she brought to the forefront about a local war veteran’s family who’d beenshort changed on burial arrangements. “Through my reporting, the family was able to get everything they paid for," she recalled. "The experience taught me why journalism is such a powerful tool.”

Madison Carter, originally from the metro D.C. area, just joined WKBW-Ch 7 this past July. As a tot, Carter saw being a store cashier as the dream zenith of her career summit. With a matured perspective, “I found out they don’t pay much.” She set her sights higher and studied journalism at Syracuse University, making her no stranger to our climate upon her arrival.

Her first job out of college at WVIR in Charlottesville, VA, had her working during the deadly 2017 Unite The Right rally.

Carter said she knows two of the stories she’s done since being in Buffalo came specifically because she is African American. “People came directly to me, because they felt I could be trusted with their stories.” She chose Buffalo as her next career step, seeing

here “a place where people young in the business can grow because we’re working side-by-side with so much established talent.”

Kevin Jolly came to Spectrum News-Buffalo after doing a short stint at WKBW. With over twenty years in the business, Jolly has held positions as a reporter, anchor, and news director. He started as a production assistant in Asheville, NC, going out on assignments with reporters on his own time to hone his skills beyond what he’d studied at Howard University.

Jolly warns there are a lot of “frustrated thespians” in the game today who just want to be seen on t.v. He came of age when film director Spike Lee was kicking down doors and making space for a new, undiluted Black presence in media. “I came to my career from a sense of a heightened awareness of my identity and a responsibility to serve the community I came from… ‘giving a voice to the voiceless’ .”

WIVB’s Shannon Smith knew journalism was for her while in high school, writing for a teen magazine based in her hometown, Chicago.

She’s been on the air for six years, and was swayed to Buffalo in August, 2017 “I look for a newsroom with a good vibe, both for news and growth potential.

People don’t realize that Buffalo is actually a really, really good news market. Somehow, Western New York ends up having a tie to everything. I mean, when Aretha Franklin died, part of the story was that she lived here for a while.”

Smith is ever possessed with the awareness of her presence as an opportunity to “offer a voice in the newsroom that helps to dispel misconceptions about the Black community, how it's often covered, and to educate those in my newsroom, including management, of the importance of how communities of color are represented.”

Jeff Preval arrived at WGRZ-Ch 2 in 2012. Originally from Arlington, MA, Preval imagined pro baseball in his future. His time at Hofstra University bent his interests toward broadcast journalism--and philosophy. He’s been around newsrooms for eleven years, nine of them in front of the camera. Covering the coach Sandusky-Penn State student sexual abuse scandal while working for WTAJ-TV in Pennsylvania became a definitive point in his career.

“It was without a doubt, the most demanding, exhausting, emotional and dramatic news story that I’ve been involved in. With new twists and turns every day," he said.

"It strengthened my ability to perform as a reporter. It made me smarter, made me think in different ways, and it made me hungrier for the big story.”

Preval has nominations and awards from the NABJ, and the Radio and Television News Directors Association.

In Buffalo, Preval has interviewed Mayor Byron Brown regarding summer road paving, and also logged a series of stories about dangerous railroad tracks causing driving problems on Hyde Park Blvd. in Niagara Falls.

If the anchors and reporters make it all look effortless, congratulate a great producer quietly doing their job right behind the scenes. It is crucial to understand and value their role.

“A producer chooses the stories that go in the show and writes the scripts the anchors read,” said Cameron Owens who produces the 4pm news at WIVB. “It’s a heavy load at times, but knowing [my choices] can change lives is rewarding.”

Owens is especially mindful as a Black producer that “minorities tend to all get painted with the same brush. I.E. we all live in poverty, high crime areas, low education. So Continued Page 11

mighty Oak has fallen!

It is with great sadness that the family of Elaine T. Blyden announces her passing, on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the age of 80 years.

Elaine was a true Buffalonian. Having never moved from her hometown, her life’s work was to make the City of Buffalo a better place, especially for children in Buffalo’s Black communities.

Elaine was a servant leader. She gave tirelessly of herself in many capacities including, Managing Editor of the Buffalo Challenger Newspaper, District Office Staff Director for Deputy NYS Assembly Speaker Arthur O. Eve, numerous roles including Board President at her life-long church community, The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, and numerous organization boards and committees.

A believer in political empowerment and self-determination, Elaine was a political observer during the Attica uprising in 1971, a Delegate at the historic 1972 National Black Political Convention in Gary, Indiana, and worked on many local, state, and national political campaigns.

Elaine was most recently the retired President and CEO of the Bob Lanier Center for Educational, Physical and Cultural Development, Inc. She was most proud of her more than 20 years work with the youth of "The Bob," as the kids called it. She was the “mom to the community,” as several thousand youth moved successfully through the program during her tenure, many of whom credit her with literally saving their lives.

As much as Elaine was an ever present voice in the public struggle to gain resources for the city’s children, she was equally present at home and in the neighborhoods in which she lived. During the years in which she raised her daughter Kelly on Cambridge Ave, her house was the center focus for all of the neighborhood children. Years later her home on Landon Ave became the center of community for her son Malik’s neighborhood friends. She was truly the mighty oak of the community, providing fun, shade and comfort to all. She also played the role of confidant within her family, supporting many nieces and nephews through trying times.

Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her children Kelly (Paulette) Clark of Binghamton, NY, Malik (Sophia) Blyden, and Herbert Jr. (Pamela) Blyden of Buffalo, NY. Left to honor her memory are also six grandchildren, Mikal, Cela, Eryn, Aquera, Herbie, and Cordney, her siblings, Judith, Dennis, and Barry Clark, sisters-in-law Connie Sparks Clark, Pat and Daisy Clark, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and many many friends. Elaine was predeceased by her husband Herbert Blyden, brother David Clark, and mother and father, Thelma Amelia and William Lawrence Clark.

Home going services were held on Tuesday, October 2, at 12 The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 26 Brunswick Blvd, in Buffalo. Burial followed at Elmlawn Memorial Park.

A LEGACY OF GENOCIDE AND SLAVERY:

ization that Columbus may not be the hero Americans believe him to be. Many Americans learned some disturbing details for the first time. The story we learned in school was sadly incomplete.

For starters he didn't "discover" America.

During four separate trips that started with the one in 1492, Columbus landed on various Caribbean islands that are now the Bahamas as well as the island later called Hispaniola. He also explored the Central and South American coasts. But he didn’t reach North America, which, of course, was already inhabited by millions of Native Americans, Articles in national magazines have reported gruesome details of Columbus’ rule over the Caribbean.

The fact that Columbus has become controversial puzzles many, since media coverage does not mesh with the heroic story we learned in school. The public’s puzzlement is often resolved by dismissing the critics as a bunch of crazies, mixed in with a few Indians who are surprisingly ungrateful for the benefits of European civilization.

Since Columbus has his vocal supporters, it becomes easy for many to ignore the troublesome calls for reevaluation and to simply dismiss the question: Why celebrate genocide and slavery?

Those who make the effort to educate themselves about the reality behind the Columbus myth, however, are typically shocked by what they find .

Part of the shock relates to Columbus himself, who was directly and personally responsible for the enslavement, torture, mutilation and murder of thousands of Indians of the Caribbean islands he and his brothers ruled. Most of these atrocities occurred after Columbus’ first voyage in 1492, when he returned again and again to search for gold.

Part of the shock goes beyond Columbus himself to the legacy he left for those who extended his policies: the institutionalization of slavery and mass murder of the Indians; the slavery of millions of Africans stolen from their homes and brought here to produce riches for Europeans; the destruction of a natural environment that had nurtured millions of Indians in thousands of cultures from the Arctic to the tip of South America; and the common belief that might makes right.

There is still another kind of shock: the shock of realizing we were lied to. Why is our childhood memory of Columbus so hazy and positive? Why were we never taught what he actually did to those smiling, friendly Indians pictured in the books we read as children?

Why didn’t we learn about the torture, the mutilation, the rapes, the slaves, the single-minded pursuit of gold?

The details have been readily available for years, as in Hans Koning’s Columbus: His Enterprise, a short but eye-opening book first published in 1976, and more recently in Kirkpatrick Sales’ detailed The Conquest of Paradise.

Why, then, are our children still learning the old myths? Is it simply that everyone loves a good story, and that no one wants to rain on a parade?

Or might questioning the Columbus myth lead students to question the continuation of his policies today?

Even the Ridley Scott film 1492, widely described as “revisionist” because it depicts atrocities against the Indians, manages not only to understate those atrocities but to blame them on a few evil individuals (inaccurately not even including Columbus!) rather than on the system of oppression intentionally created as European policy.

From high school teams named Redskins, to the continuing U.S. refusal to honor treaties with Indian nations, to the destruction of Amazon rainforests and Amazon peoples, to the reliance on force to maintain U.S. dominance of the New World Order, Columbus lives on.

Now is an appropriate time to reconsider our past as well as our

common future. Celebrating Columbus leads in one direction.

1827 America’s 1st Black Newspaper

In the wake of the hearings in which Christine Blasey Ford, the California professor has accused the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault when they were teenagers, an op-ed piece by Charles M. Blow in the New York Times makes a very interesting and sad, observation. Excerpts from Blow’s commentary points out the following: “Thomas’s nomination put black America in a bind: Oppose Thomas and risk having no Black representation on the court, or support him in spite of his hostile views. Black civil rights groups were hesitant to take a stand one way or the other on Thomas, even though years earlier he had berated these groups, saying all they do is “moan and whine.”

“Then came the allegation of sexual harassment brought by Professor Anita Hill, and everything changed. It is not that Hill wasn’t credible, but it was that Thomas was on the defensive and the image of yet another black man under attack from a group of White men had an eerie echo of (Rodney) King under assault from the L.A.P.D. (which took place months before Thomas was nominated).

“The hearings that followed, including compelling, credible testimony from Hill and the demeaning way in which she was treated, was extraordinary, must-see television.

“Then, Thomas provoked Blacks to circle the wagons when he declared the hearings a “high-tech lynching for uppity Blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves.” He continued: “And it is a message, that unless you kowtow to an old order you will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U.S. Senate rather than hung from a tree.”

“After the hearings, The Chicago Tribune reported on an ABC News-Washington Post poll that showed support for Thomas’s confirmation had actually risen to 56 percent. But as the paper pointed out: “Thomas’s support was strongest among Blacks, with 70 percent backing his nomination; 50 percent of Whites support him.

Another weekend poll, conducted by The Los Angeles Times, said 51 percent overall believed the Senate should confirm Thomas, down from 54 percent in September. But when broken down by race, the figures showed 61 percent of Blacks backed Thomas’s confirmation, up from 55 percent in September, while only 50 percent of Whites said he should be confirmed.

“Black people, to their everlasting regret, backed Thomas, as did the Senate, over Hill’s warnings.”

Thomas is only one of two Blacks to have ever served on the U.S. Supreme Court. He followed the stellar tenure of the late Justice Thurgood Marshall, a champion for civil rights. Thomas has been described as the “anti Thurgood Marshall.”

We Need More Democrats in Buffalo Dear Editor; I recently got elected to become an Erie County democratic committee member for Masten 20.

During the process I learned why so many people dislike party politics. It is ugly. Many people take it very personal when you don’t do exactly what they want you to and there is a group of people from outside our community that have a very strong influence in who is elected in Buffalo. I can understand why so many people just step away from it all. But we need more Democrats, not less. The only way we will be able to change the system, and to take power is to petition, vote, donate and run for spots.

The beauty of the system is that it can be changed. That good people can make a difference. It isn’t easy, and sometimes it is ugly. But if we do nothing, nothing will ever change.

So, if you recently moved, please update your voter registration status by going to 134 West Eagle Street, it takes 4 minutes.

If are not registered, we need you to get registered. If you believe that your vote doesn’t matter, I’m telling you that it does, and we can make a difference. In the last few years we have had a legislative vote decided by less than 300 votes, a council race decided by less than 300 votes, a school board seat decided by less than a hundred votes, and my father Marvel Kirkwood’s democratic committee seat victory decided by 1 vote. Our votes really do make a difference.

Bennett Breaks Lancaster’s 3 Year Winning Streak

The Legends had entered the game ranked #1 in NYS in Class AA in the latest NYS rankings.

Bennett rolled up 463 yards of offense in the win. D’Jae Perry led the Tigers’ ground attack as he rushed for 275 yards and 2 TDs on 12 carries. Perry scored on runs of 57 and 69 yards. Semaj Clemons added 90 yards and a TD on 7 carries while Justin Campbell rushed 6 times for 70 yards and a TD. Bennett QB Aaron Smith completed 7 of 11 passes for 81 yards and a TD. He also tossed a pair of 2-point PAT passes. Smith tossed an 18-yard TD pass to Austin Grimes.

Jakari Nettles led the defense as he made 7 tackles and recorded a pair of QB sacks. Jeremiah Williams made 7 tackles and had 1 sack.

(Lancaster entered the game as the #1 ranked team in WNY on a 3 year winning streak however Bennet High secured the win)!

Listless Bills Take another Beat down Here we go already into week four of NFL season and the Bills took on the Packers at historic Lambeau Field.

It’s was gray and dreary day with a high of 52 degrees at kickoff. The Packers came out attacking the Bills defense and the bills were not ready for their schemes. The Bills just don’t bring it every week; It’s a on again off again team with very little offensive weapons. The Bills looked sloppy and disinterested in the game against the Packers. The Bills offensive was so terrible all Josh Allen could do is like Tyrod Taylor did - run with the ball! But Allen is no Tyrod Taylor and can’t make something out of nothing. Especially without wide receivers. The Bills receivers are the most terrible I have seen in franchise history. They just can’t get off the line of scrimmage and get open. The Bills offense will not get any better until a new experienced group of wide receivers are brought in and allowed to play on a weekly basis.

It’s getting very difficult to watch such bad football by a professional team.

The Bills front office philosophy on building a winning THE BILLS REPORT football team is way off base in getting the job done. You don’t get rid of talent that’s very hard to replace and think you can get by with journeymen players. You are supposed to bring in talent and. We are only four games in with 12 games left and things are going to get a lot worse. Bills still have Nathan Peterman on the roster and not one quality receiver, yet “The Process” has not brought in any talent at all.

“I was reading my keys and picking up the Packers tendencies along with we must execute better including myself,“ said Bills cornerback Taron Johnson. “ I left a couple of plays on the field. I must get better at … adjusting to the speed of the game and playing at a faster pace.”

Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson said, “I feel good to get back out there with my teammates to game plan the past two weeks, so it’s good to play;” I feel the Bills are not using him as an edge rusher ever since his best game as a Bill against the Carolina Panthers where he put pressure on the quarterback using a three technique. You must remember Marcell Dareus was still our nose tackle at the time. It’s amazing that players like Shaq Lawson, Lorenzo Alexander, and Jerry Hughes are not being used to the best of their abilities.

The Bills return to new ERA Field to face the Tennessee Titans with several young talented football players, unlike the Buffalo Bills roster. I’m going with the Titans in a laugher for them 24-10.

Brunette Washington, 104

Brunette Washington was born in Forkland, Alabama on June 6, 1914. Her family moved to Lackawanna in 1939 and she eventually moved to Buffalo with her own family in the mid 1940s. Mother Washington is first and foremost a devoted women of God, she loves the Lord, and has dedicated her life to Him, her family and her church, Macedonia where she has been a member for 74 years! Also active outside the church, she is a member of the Pratt Willert Center. She raised 4 children and has fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and twelve great great grandchildren. Her favorite words of advice to her children and grandchildren is, " ya’ll stay together. You stand divided you fall, and children ya’ll love one another."
