“Music Transforms Hearts”

By Lorna Bergner "How do you balance your life as a mother, wife, and full-time musician?" I asked Zahyia Rolle. “Music gives me wings, it opens my heart and gives me strength,” she said, “I want to become a hollow reed so that God’s love may flow through my music to others.” Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Zahyia is exploring with other Black women musicians in Rochester how they might uplift their families and neighbors through music.

Rolle is a Rochester resident whose work is inspired by her Baha’i Faith, which teaches the oneness of humanity. “I want to express that in my music,” Rolle says.

In March 2021, Zahyia released a music video for her single "Foul SoulChild” with a clear intention - "I've decided to dedicate this track to all my Sisters and Mothers struggling with mental health. Life with Covid has left so many of us feeling alone even when we are surrounded. I'm fighting for a future where basic care and unconditional love for all earthlings are a common and normal approach to our interactions."

Regarding “Foul SoulChild”, Rolle told me she thinks we are benefitting from new Zahyia Rolle understandings about mental health, while at the same time need to take care of our spiritual health. “Music inspired by the Holy Writings can help us to do that,” Rolle said.

Rolle said the first verse of “Foul SoulChild” describes when she was in a very unhealthy condition mentally and spiritually. The second verse is about her experience visiting the Baha’i Shrines on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land, “When I lay my head on that Sacred Threshold and asked God to help me, I experienced total release from my worries and a glorious feeling of healing. That’s what the second verse is about.”

Rolle said, “I’m focusing on creating and sharing music written and performed by Black women, so that our music will inspire the hearts of other women.” She continued, “All hearts can be receptive to working together to make our communities better. I want to use a variety of musical styles that brings out our beauty in diversity.”

“Music can transform us,” Zahyia said. Another song, “One Step Away”, is about the meaning of life. Zahyia wrote, “Inspired by the ascension of a dear friend, I began to imagine what death and funerals will look like in the future. I see the reconnection with the earth, nature, and natural rhythmic cycles. With that in mind, I wrote this piece inspired by the roots of spirituals, timed in 6/8, which mathematically is rooted by 3.

The stripped-down production with just vocals, body rhythms, and tambourine are purposely significant for the human healing aspect of this song. I wanted to express the fundamental beauty of physically returning to dust while spiritually rising with the words of Baha'u'llah."

Amherst Police Promotes McFayden to Detective Lieutenant The Amherst Police Department recently announced the promotion of Lieutenant Kari McFayden to the rank of Detective Lieutenant. Det. Lieutenant McFayden has been a police officer for 15 years and has served as Patrol Officer and Patrol Lieutenant supervising the night and afternoon shifts. McFayden supervised the Crisis intervention Team, Field Training Officer, and the School Resource Officer program for all three school districts He is the son of his proud, parents, Keith and Emma McFayden. He and his wife Amanda have two children.

ongressman Brian Higgins introduced legislation to rename the Manhattan Avenue post office in honor of Indiana Hunt-Martin in May of 2021.

The idea was brought to him by Korea Defense Veteran Sandra Williams who serves as the President and founder of United Veterans of Buffalo.

On Monday Higgins announced the Passage of H.R.2142, designating the Central Park Post Office at 170 Manhattan Avenue in Buffalo as the “Indiana Hunt-Martin Post Office Building,” named in honor of Women’s Army Corps (WAC) veteran Hunt-Martin, a member of the first and only Black Woman's Army Corps unit to serve Congressman Higgins and Indiana Hunt- Martin in WWII. Speaking on the House floor following the passage of the bill, Higgins declared: “There are Post Offices named for Presidents and famous celebrities, but I might argue that there would be none more fitting than one paying tribute to the legacy of Indiana Hunt- Martin and her service to the Six Triple Eight Central Postal Battalion.”

“I’m overwhelmed with joy because she really deserves this,” said Sandra Williams who was once a member of Indiana Hunt-Martin’s American Legion. “We all knew Indiana,” she said adoringly. “We enjoyed listening to her tell stories about her time in the service. What she and the other women went through was unbelievable.” Their amazing endurance, she continued, was a real testament to their strength and dedication.

She also made it clear that the effort to honor her received widespread community support from her church home, New Hope Baptist Church pastored by Herschel Chapman Jr., to a host of dedicated veterans like Debbera M. Ransom and various Posts to political and civic leaders. “We all took part in making it happen.”

"We're thankful that she is being honored this way," stated Rev. Chapman. "Indiana was a member of New Hope for 31 years. I consider her a true pioneer because she was among the first group of Black women to serve our country in the military. She served the church faithfully and she served her country faithfully."

He expressed special thanks and appreciation to the office of Congressman Brian Higgins.

"We are especially grateful to Congressman Higgins for pushing for this great honor for this great woman," he concluded. "And most of all we are thankful to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!"

"-Six Triple Eight Indiana Hunt-Martin was a member of the renowned Six Triple Eight Central Postal Directory Battalion during WWII, which was tasked with processing and routing undelivered mail sent between families in the United States and Americans stationed in Europe. From 1978 until her passing on September 21, 2020, she frequented the post office on Manhattan Avenue at least once per week to purchase stamps, pick up mail, and send letters.

Graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1940, she joined the Women’s Army Corps in September of 1944. After receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Army in November of 1945, she worked for the New York State Department of Labor in New York City, Niagara Falls, and Buffalo for 41 years until she retired in 1987.

Throughout her life and military service, Indiana Hunt-Martin experiPvt. Hunt enced racism and sexism firsthand, but no amount of discrimination prevented her from serving her country.

Her courage and bravery paved the way for future generations of African American women serving in the military.

In 2014 Congressman Higgins presented Indiana Hunt-Martin with the Women’s Army Corps Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button for her service during World War II. He is also an original cosponsor of H.R. 1012, the Six Triple Eight Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2021, which would award members of the 6888th the Congressional Gold Medal. The Senate version of the bill passed the House today as well.

Indiana Hunt-Martin made her transition at the age of 98. She is laid to rest at the historic Oakwood Cemetery in Niagara Falls. Before her passing, she was both honored and excited when she learned that the post office would be renamed for her.

Yaa Asantewaa Yaa Asantewaa (17 October 1840 – 17 October 1921)

Yaa Asantewa - was the queen mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire – now part of modern-day Ghana. In 1900, she led the Ashanti war known as the War of the Golden Stool, also known as the Yaa Asantewaa war, against British colonials.

She was chosen by a number of regional Asante kings to be the war-leader of the Asante fighting force. This is the first and only example for a woman to be given that role in Asante history.

We will fight till the last of us fall I the battlefield.” -Yaa Asantewaa Yaa Asantewaa's dream for an Asante free of British rule was finally realized on March 6, 1957. Ghana was the first African nation in Sub-Saharan Africa to achieve this feat.

To memoralize her, a museum was opened in the EjisuJuaben District, Ghana, in her honor in August 2000.

If Everything Is Bad For You, What Can I Eat? "It is easier to change a man's religion than to change his diet."-Margaret Mead

I

recently posted an Instagram reel with the title, "3 foods They say are health foods but aren't". I then listed three foods that people think are healthy but aren’t. One person commented, "Then what CAN we eat? It's exhausting trying to figure out what to eat if everything you eat someone says is trash". I completely understand the frustration, confusion, and defeat one can feel when trying to eat healthy or what I like to call clean eating, and don't know what to do or where to start.

This confusion is generated by design. The US Health Care System has kept us mentally paralyzed when it comes to making decisions about what is best for our health and healing. We tend to doubt and question the knowledge inherently built into our DNA, and instead put our trust and faith in a system designed to see us fail.

It is time that we call all of our power back to us.

There are two very simple guidelines to follow to help you determine what you should and shouldn't eat. This will help you become a clean eater.

Clean eating is a lifestyle. It is not a fad, a diet, or a quick fix. It is something you strive to do daily each time you eat and drink. The clean eating lifestyle has two important components: 1.You choose to eat food as close to its natural state as possible.

2.You eat foods with minimal ingredients you can pronounce.

My favorite example of clean eating is the apple and the apple fritter. The apple is as close to its natural state as possible. It came right off the tree and into the store. The apple fritter on the other hand went through an entire process to be made. The manufacturer took some apples (I hope), flour, butter, sugar, mixed it together, fried it and then put some glaze on it.

The apple fritter is as far from the natural state of the apple as you can get.

The goal of clean eating is to choose food as close to its natural state as possible. When you choose food as close to its natural state as possible, you will have a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. You will eat foods from the earth and not out of a box.

In other words, eat plants and not food manufactured in plants.

One of my favorite quotes is, "If you don't recognize an ingredient, your body won't either."

In addition to eating food as close to its natural state as possible, clean eating involves choosing foods with minimal ingredients that you can actually pronounce.

Many years ago, I regularly purchased boxed pancake mix. That was until I read the label and looked at the ingredients. My favorite had sodium aluminum phosphate and calcium carbonate. I asked myself, “what is this and why is it in my pancake mix?” I then decided to make my own pancake mix with ingredients I recognized including flour, sugar, and almond milk because I certainly don't have sodium aluminum phosphate in my cabinets.

Clean eating means that you will make most of your food at home, with your own hands and with minimal ingredients.

“Still I Rise” is the theme of the No More Tears Annual Homicide and Awards Dinner next Saturday, March 12.

Laroy Hall/”Streets Poet,” a South Carolina-based Life Coach, inspirational and motivational speaker with a huge social media fan base, will deliver the keynote message.

Organizers could not have chosen a more fitting concept for the event honoring 26, outstanding women during Women’s History Month. The program will pay tribute to women of homicide families who have endured heartbreaking pain but managed to keep going for the sake of the children left behind; women who have held and are still holding families together. The awardees also include women who consistently work to make things happen in the community and provide a voice for the voiceless.

Together they represent an important part of the glue that holds the comLaroy Hall munity together.

7 --No More TearsThe common thread that connects the awardees is their relationship with founder Tina Sanders and her No More Tears team.

Guided by the Creator and her love for the East Buffalo community, the organization was founded by Tina in 2000 to serve victims and families affected by domestic violence. She has been a foster mother to over 150 children, and at one point focused the organization’s efforts towards mentoring teens as part of their violence prevention initiative. However No More Tears is best known for their bonding and availability to families in need. The impact of violence - the domino effect - is more far reaching than we can imagine, she notes.

“The loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind…” said Tina.

“A relationship and connection is made with the families we work with during tragic times,” she continued. “And even after things are over we’re still involved with them for example, providing counseling, and finding housing for the families.”

No More Tears she said, takes an “If I can do it I will make the connection and get it done” position.

“I just didn’t leave them after the services…”

“The reason we do these dinners is because we want families to know that they’re not forgotten and that we love them…”

“We also want people to know that your family may not be honored this time but it’s not that you’re forgotten. It’s just that we can only do so many at one time. But we are still here for you.”

Tina had special praise for Tracey Mullen, the No More Tears Event Coordinator, who has worked tirelessly not only to bring this event to fruition but for the continuance of the No More Tears organization.

“Tracey is an amazing person,” she said.

The proceeds from the dinner will go to sustain No More Tears and enable them to continue their current operation and future visionary efforts.

Conway The Machine No Longer On Griselda and Shady Records In a recent interview with Hypebeast, Buffalo native Desmond Price also known as Conway The Machine, confirmed his split with labels Griselda Records and Shady Records.

The former Griselda titan divulged that it is “free agency right now” and that he is looking for a “supermax” contract.

“Yeah, like sitting right here right now, I’m not on a contract with Griselda, Shady none of that..." he explained. “It’s free agency right now you heard. I need that supermax man. Now In It's Third Year, Legislator April Baskin's Annual Black Doll Exhibit Continues to Celebrate Black History Erie County Legislator Chairwoman April Baskin's Annual Black Doll Exhibit is in its final stretch at the Frank E. Merriweather, Jr. Library from and up until March 11. This year's exhibit celebrates Black History and Women’s Road to Careers through fashion dolls. The Canisius College Board of Trustees announced last week that Steve K. Stoute, JD, vice president for strategic initiatives and chief of staff at DePaul University in Chicago, IL, was named the institution’s 25th president.

He will begin his tenure on July 1, 2022.

Stoute was selected following a 10-month nationwide search led by a 15-member Presidential Search Committee representing the college’s constituencies.

Stoute joined DePaul, the largest Catholic university in the United States, in June 2018 to serve as chief of staff. He also has served as vice president for strategic initiatives since June 2020.

“We were extremely impressed with Presidentelect Stoute’s experience and accomplishments,” said Martin J. Berardi ’79, chair of the college’s Board

of Trustees.

Stoute will succeed President John J. Hurley who announced his retirement after serving 12 years as president and 25 years overall at Canisius.

First Black Woman Nominated to The US Supreme Court: Senate Gearing Up For Hearings Steve K. Stoute

Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Stoute immigrated to the United States in 2000 to attend Seton Hall University in New Jersey where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Ketanji Brown Jackson, 51, made history last week when President Biden nominated her as the first Black woman to be nominated to the US Supreme Court. Jackson was born in Washington, D.C., , but raised in Florida. She matriculated at Harvard where she received both her undergraduate (1992) and law (1996) degrees. The Senate is currently gearing up for hearings on her nomination,. She is expected to be confirmed by the mid-April recess and stands a good chance of picking up bipartisan support to become the first Black woman to serve on the high court.

Democrats say their goal is to get her seated on the Supreme Court before the April recess, which begins on April 9.

Canisius Welcomes Award-Winning Historian And Writer Canisius College presents a talk by award-winning historian and writer Keisha N. Blain,PhD, on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m in the Montante Cultural Center. Her talk, which is free and open to the public, is titled “Fannie Lou Hamer and the Power of the Vote.”

The event, presented under the auspices of the college’s William H. Fitzpatrick Chair Keisha N. Blain of Political Science Lecture Series, will also be live streamed.

Blain is an associate professor of history at the University of Pittsburgh and a columnist for MSNBC. She is currently in residence at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at HarvardUniversity and a member of the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study.

The PTSD Epidemic Among Veterans...

T

here is a new epidemic in the Black community. It’s a silent killer.

This epidemic has plagued the veteran community for years and is slowly being spoken about. But many veterans ignore its warning signs. This epidemic is called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. Twenty one percent of the veteran population is Black, twenty eight percent Hispanic.

Active duty military members and veterans experience a high rate of PTSD — possibly as many as 34% suffer from this debilitating condition. Twenty two veterans every single day commit suicide because of the conditions of PTSD. This is a huge number. It’s a tragedy and shameful and must be addressed across the nation.

The government has forgotten us. The V.A. is over whelmed. And long waits to get help.

When the tour of duty is over for former servicemen and women, the unseen tour of misery remains.

As veterans, we live with a stigma that we’re any situation. Because of this many veterans use different coping mechanisms such as drugs and/or alcohol to cope with the stress caused by PTSD. Many of our veterans end up jobless, homeless or in prison.

I’m calling on all veterans to reach out and help each other. Please know that there is help, but we need your voice to help get the word out and let our local, county and federal governments aware of the epidemic that is ravaging the veteran community. New York Bail Reform Fight

B

lack legislators in New York are defending their legislation which reduces the use of cash bail. In so doing they protect the legal and human rights of Black people in that state.

Black Agenda Report coined the terms “black misleadership class” and “black political class” to describe elected officials and others whose positions of influence do little to help the masses of Black people. In some cases their actions in elected office and other prominent positions deliberately undermine the human rights of Black people. So, when Black elected officials do the right and righteous thing, BAR should take notice.

Such is the case in the state of New York, where a Black man and woman lead the two legislative chambers. Carl Heastie is Speaker of the Assembly and Andrea StewartCousins is the State Senate Majority Leader. They used those positions to fulfill an important demand that Black people have been making ever since the explosion of mass incarceration.

The bail system is used to keep black people locked up, whether they need to be in jail or not. Even small amounts of money can be out of reach for low-income people, for whom the presumption of innocence is negated when they languish in jail before being tried. New York’s 2019 Bail Reform package eliminated cash bail for nearly all misdemeanors and non-violent felonies. This reasonable initiative was under attack from the beginning with racist, right-wing forces and media connecting any and every crime or uptick in cases to bail reform.

The new mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, is also Black but he is also a former cop and has made the fight against crimes, real or imagined, a centerpiece of his campaign and his mayoralty. His first preliminary budget calls for cuts to every City agency except the NYPD. Despite media attacks and Adams’ co-optation, the state legislators have held firm. Assembly Member Latrice Walker publicly clashed with Adams on the issue, making clear that she and her colleagues were in no mood to back down.

Adams traveled to the capital in Albany to make his case, and again got the cold shoulder from Black and progressive members.

Adams harps on gun violence, which is not impacted by the new bail law at all. Judges can and do impose bail in cases involving the use of firearms or any other violent act.

Stewart-Cousins made clear that while she appreciated the mayor’s willingness to meet and discuss many issues, she politely told him the answer was still a hard no. “But rolling back reforms that are really directed in allowing people accused of misdemeanors to have their day in court is not, you know, as we saw, the actual answer.”

The actual answer is the end of anti-black racism in what passes for a criminal justice system. The imperative to keep as many Black people in jail as possible is accepted as a societal necessity. The situation in New York state is unique, because democrats control both chambers of the legislature and have a democratic governor. Most importantly, Black leadership are doing what their constituents want them to do and have chosen to resist pressure to reverse themselves.

But there is always a danger posed by the Adamses of the world. He has proposed that judges be allowed to consider the “dangerousness ” of an individual when deciding whether or not to require bail. This standard is used in most of the country, and results in Black people being considered Continued Page 15

“Incidents,” A Word That Is Used Too Loosely!

here were a few chaotic scenes involving Buffalo Public School students on Wednesday, February 10, 2022, that you may have heard about. The most publicized ‘incident’ was the brutal stabbing of a 14-year-old student, another student that was grazed by gunfire and the shooting of a brave 24-year-old security officer who without any hesitation, put his life in danger to save McKinley High School students that were at the scene. About the same time, there was another police report about a 16-year-old student who was severely injured from a knife Terrance L. assault in downtown Buffalo.

HEARD These life-threatening attacks were referred to as “incidents.”

The morning after these disturbing occurrences, students at Math, Science & Technology High School (M.S.T.), arrived at school only to see and hear reports about a deceased adult male that was lying on the sidewalk about two blocks away from their school. This ‘incident’ is very disturbing, but the real story occurred a couple days earlier. Sadly, on Monday, February 7th the same students were on lockdown at the school due to a long 5-minute gun shootout that occurred next to the school that left the students and the staff traumatized.

Once again, these painstaking encounters are called ‘Incidents’!

As a School Board Member At-Large, I receive a lot of many calls from parents, teachers, principals, students, and stakeholders with tearful concerns about the safety of our students and the state of education in the city of Buffalo. As the only African male serving on the Buffalo School Board, I also receive an abundance of calls concerning issues that occur at charter schools. These parents know that I am from the East Side of Buffalo and can relate to their concerns and have a passion to resolve all issues that affect our children and our community.

The violence has become a major health and wellness issue. I recall just a couple of months ago, on August 16, 2021, a 17-year-old girl was shot and killed on Buffalo’s Westside and a 17-year-old boy was killed on Sept. 30th in the Buffalo’s Kensington neighborhood. This violence was followed by an October 20, 2021 killing of another 17-year-old Buffalo teen on Buffalo’s Eastside.

Buffalo averages about 50 homicides per year, but we exceeded that threshold with 65 reported cases last year and an alarming 287 reported shooting victims. From Jan. 1 through Sept. 30, 2021, eighteen of our shooting victims were 17 years old or younger according to department statistics. What the statistics doesn’t account for is the number of gun shootouts, near misses and life threatening experiences that our children face from day to day.

Last year, 18 school aged children were killed in the city of Buffalo which begs the question, what is being done about these “incidents”? Do you think that sending a crisis intervention team into a school building for a couple of hours will have a long-lasting impact on our children and their mental state? How do we expect for these children to come to school and actually learn under these circumstances? Children also want to know why they are being punished when they are caught with a weapon? Children feel that they are justified to carry a weapon for their personal safety and as a deterrent from possible crimes that are often afflicted upon them. Gang recruitment are at an all-time high and assaults on children are more than a growing concern.

Other questions that one should ask is, what is normalcy and whether this violence impacting youth is the new normal? There is a reason why the students call the City of Buffalo, “Beirut, New York,” this appears to be the new normalcy, for at least now.

If you try to answer some of the questions raised begin by looking at our children and their education with a Trauma Informed Lens perspective. The next step will include researching methods that include coping skills, training for the students and then infuse it with Critical Thinking practices to help them make healthy choices.

I have taken a lot of phone calls from concerned citizens across the state about policing the schools and the trend is that our senior stakeholders prefer police presence and more youthful stakeholders are saying no and calling for Restorative Justice practices to be administered across the District.

Whatever your opinion is, it can be concluded that a shared solution is needed concerning security measures in order to address the regions sub-par attendance levels which effects our enrollment and test scores. All children and personnel should be able to attend their school of choice and have a fair and equitable opportunity at education without the fear of bullying and learning in hostile environments. Each decision that we make moving forward as a Board and a District are critical decisions and every future scholar must count.

We can also conclude that the Covid-19 virus is not an excuse and can’t be the blame for any further ‘Incidents’ moving forward.

South Long Park Pavilion project description: 16’ wide x 24’ long x 9’ high (at eave) post frame open pavilion with vaulted hipped roof. Roof framing assumed to be engineered scissor trusses with 6:12 top pitch, 3:12 bottom pitch and 12” eave and gable overhangs on 4 sides (vented soffit in eaves only). The frame shall be clad in painted steel siding and roofing with a minimum 40-year warranty, Village Parks Committee to select colors. All headers shall be wrapped in color matched aluminum. Ceiling shall be color matched aluminum soffit panels. The pavilion shall include a minimum 5” cast-in-place concrete slab on grade.

A sketch of the proposed pavilion and a site plan prepared by Village staff are included for reference.

Successful bidder will work with the Village DPW to coordinate installation of the Pavilion in concert with the Village’s Sports Court project which will be run concurrently. It is possible that some or all of the site preparation may be facilitated through the assistance of DPW staff, however for the purposes of this bid solicitation, the Village requests that site clearing, earthwork immediately surrounding the pavilion, and all borrow materials (subbase stone, etc) be included as line item values separate from the base scope described above.

Successful bidder shall also include all engineering (including dimensioned construction documents stamped by a NYSPE) to include treated posts, trusses, purlins, foundations, etc. with sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature, and extent of the work proposed and show in detail that it will conform to the provisions of the Building Code of New York State and all relevant laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as determined by the Village Building Official.

The project shall be completed prior to November 1st.

Our workers shall be fully licensed and insured and shall be remunerated based on prevailing wage rates in accordance with Village municipal purchasing standards. Permits are the responsibility of the Village.

Should the successful bidder encounter unforeseen underground obstacles, the removal of such obstacles shall be by Village DPW at no expense to the contractor. The Village will make suitable truck access to the building site.

NEWS BRIEF Black People Report Racism While Fleeing War Zone Ukraine is home to thousands of African students who study medicine, engineering, and other technical fields at affordable prices compared with the rest of Europe and the United States.

Morocco, Nigeria, and Egypt are in the top 10 countries with students in Ukraine, in total sending over 16,000 students to the country, according to the education ministry.

Dr Ayoade Alakija, Special Envoy, ACT WHO, said in a tweet that the Black Africans were facing racism in Ukraine. She said, “Black Africans are being treated with racism and contempt in Ukraine & Poland. West cannot ask African nations to stand in solidarity with them if they cannot display basic respect for us even in a time of war. Ignored in a pandemic and left to die in war?!! UNACCEPTABLE.”

Precrime is the stuff of science fiction but is used against Black defendants in court houses every day, as Black people are always deemed too dangerous to await trial in their homes. Judges are no less racist than anyone else and they have a very direct impact on the lives of men, women, and children who are locked up when they should be free.

Of course New York legislators are not perfect.

Regardless of their politics, all elected officials are constantly targeted by big banks, big real estate, big pharma, and of course the big prison industrial complex. Their need to raise campaign funds compromises them and gives access to people and corporations whose very existence is antithetical to the needs of Black people.

Anti-black racism is foundational to this country and explains why outcomes are worse in healthcare, housing, education, and most of all in law enforcement. It is rare for politicians of any race to do right by Black people. When they do, their actions must be recognized.
