Carpenters Union Appoints Jomo Akono To Executive Board Albany, NY – The North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters has appointed Jomo Akono, a Council Representative for Carpenters Local 276, to the Executive Board to represent the next generation of leadership.

Mr. Akono was praised with having played an integral role in outreach efforts for the organization in the Western NY area, especially in the Buffalo community. He leads efforts to diversify Local 276, to represent local demographics and to increase the number of women in the trade through special preapprenticeship initiatives, such as the Sisters in the Brotherhood program. Affectionately known as "Brother Jomo" in the community, he has established community relationships and positively represents the organization within the Buffalo and Western NY communities.

He has made a difference by working with organizations such as Juneteenth and the Urban League, to bring visibility to community members about the career opportunities that are provided throughout the organization.

As a second generation carpenter who grew up in the city of Buffalo, the opportunity for Mr. Akono to become a union carpenter changed his life and now he is giving back to the community and helping others to educate them about a possible life-changing career opportunity. In addition, Mr. Akono has a local, weekly community radio show called Access to AFree-Ka. Congratulations!

hen Jimmie Lee Jackson saw his frail 80-yearold grandfather rudely turned away from the registrar’s office in 1962 after attempting to register to vote in Marion, Ala., the young man became angry. He knew he had to join the civil rights movement.

On Feb. 18, 1965, he was among more than 200 people participating in a night march in Marion. Before they had walked a block, they were confronted by state troopers and the police chief, who ordered them to disperse.

The marchers halted at the chief’s order, and suddenly all the streetlights on the square went out. A Black minister at the head of the march knelt to pray and was struck on the head by a trooper. Other troopers began swinging their clubs, and the marchers panicked, running for cover.

Jackson and his mother huddled for safety in a café. When Jackson’s grandfather entered the café bloodied and beaten, the young man tried to take him to a hospital. But they were quickly shoved back by a crowd of club-swinging troopers and terrified marchers.

The troopers began knocking out the café lights with their clubs and beating people.

Jackson saw a trooper strike his mother, and he lunged for the man. He was clubbed across the face and slammed him into a cigarette machine. Another trooper pulled his pistol and shot Jackson in the stomach. It was two hours before Jackson arrived at the hospital in Selma.

He died eight days later.

Forty-five years later, former trooper James Bonard Fowler pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of second-degree manslaughter. He was sentenced to six months in jail but was released early due to poor health. Fowler claimed he shot Jackson in self-defense.

Minority Bar Calls For All Buffalo Police Officers To Be Required To Display Both A Name Tag And Badge Number On Their Uniforms The Minority Bar Association of WNY, together with the Urban Think Tank, the NAACP Buffalo Branch, the Concerned Clergy of WNY, Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo, Buffalo Police Advisory Board, Stop the Violence Coalition, and others, held a press conference Wednesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church to call on the Police Department to display name tags and badge numbers on their uniforms.They said this change in policy was an impromptu move towards less transparency.

The Buffalo Police Advisory Board said they were not consulted about the change. The Minority Bar Association of WNY Criminal Justice Reform Task Force said they were also not consulted.

The Task Force examined the mid-September change to BPD officer identification policy allowing officers to remove their name tags from their uniforms. The Criminal Justice Reform Task Force reviewed the policy change, the current law, and sociological research. MBAWNY published a stand-alone recommendation, with the full text available at https://mbawny.org/mbawny-task-force/justice-reform/.

On October 8, 2020, the recommendation and a letter urging enactment of it was delivered to Mayor Brown, who has yet to take action, which in turn prompted the press conference.

Beyond A Bookstore: Larcenia “Jewel” Sweat, Proprietor of Alive Christian Bookstore, Provided Invaluable Service to the Community

F

or the past 25 years the Alive Christian Bookstore has been a beacon of spiritual enlightenment and faith in the Black community.

Larcenia “Jewel” Sweat, was the face of that 2275 Fillmore Avenue institution which she co-founded with her husband, Bishop Gordon M. Sweat.

Last month, in the early morning hours of September 2, Mrs. Sweat “transitioned in glory.” Services were held at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist church pastored by Frank Bostic. Services were

officiated by Apostle Robert L. Sanders Sr., Regional Apostle - Region 2, Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. “ Within our community, to have a bookstore to last

that long is a miracle,” said Bishop Sweat.

Indeed, Mrs. Sweat , his beloved wife, was herself a miracle he acknowledged, having long outlived a cancer diagnosis.

“The Lord blessed her to prevail and she outlived (the doctor’s predictions) over 10 years” he said.

“The bookstore was/ is actually a ministry,” he continued, explaining that people would come for payer while others have been saved and a church, located upstairs, would incubate young ministers for the pas-

torate who were just being called to the ministry.

The bookstore, said Bishop Gordon, is still open regular hours, Tuesdays thru Fridays 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.; closed Sundays and Mondays.

-A True “Jewel”Known for her quick wit and full laughter, Larcenia could always see another side of any situation.

A Buffalo native, she was born March 7, 1955 to Walter and Lillian Bobbette Watkins and educated in Buffalo Public Schools.

Larcenia accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. While in high school she married her true love and soulmate, Gordon M. Sweat. They were blessed with three fine sons.

When Gordon was called to the ministry, she served alongside him as First Lady of Refuge Temple of Christ (Niagara Falls). When Elder Gordon became Bishop she became First Lady of The Bronx Diocese of New York, which is part of The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith.

Hers was a life well lived.

Married 47years and a Soldier for Christ for 58.

Fillmore Avenue is Black Lives Matter Way

The Community Health Center of Buffalo, Inc, is offering FREE Virtual Mental Health First Aid Training!

F

illmore Avenue, located in the heart of the African American community, has been designated as Black Lives Matter Way. The Buffalo Common Council voted unanimously last Tuesday to place “Black Lives Matter” trailblazing signs at every main intersection along the 4.5 mile length of Fillmore from Main to Smith Street.

Fillmore Avenue was selected through a public poll posted on the Council’s Facebook page.

The campaign to designate a street in Buffalo after the Black Lives Matter Movement started after a High School Student sent a letter to Council President Pridgen asking if he could paint Black Lives Matter onto a street. Council President Darius Pridgen called the designation “the right thing to do.”

Millard Fillmore, this nation’s 13th president, signed into law the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 designed to end Northern interference in the capture and return of runaway enslaved Africans to their Southern owners.

Mental Health First Aid is a program that teaches individuals how to identify the signs and symptoms of mental illness, raises awareness about mental health and reduces stigma. Participation requires online access with a computer or tablet.

Gloria J. Parks Community Center Brings Virtual Learning to Life What can parents do to help their kids faced with 6 to 7 hours of on-line classes at home during virtual school time? For students in Buffalo district and charter schools, they can enroll in a live, in-person Virtual Learning Service Center, like the Gloria J. Parks Community Center on the corner of Main and Heath Streets in the City’s University District.

This Virtual Learning Services Center opens early each morning for the start of the school day and serves students in grades Kindergarten to Grade 8 until 4:30 p.m. daily. And it is free. Students bring their school laptops in and receive breakfast Gloria Parks Youth Center Staff and lunch, courtesy of Buffalo Public Schools. If a student has computer problems, the program has computers that may be used during the program. They attend all their day school classes virtually from the classrooms at the community center. Skilled staff members help students with any technical computer problems, as well as giving tutoring help if they are struggling to understand their school work.

In addition, during lunch break and other scheduled breaks, each student will have supervised recreational activities, physical education time outdoors and in the community center gym. Youth Program staff will also provide some live instruction outside of school class time.

The Gloria Parks staff is young, culturally diverse, and totally focused on students’ needs. They teach to the “whole child,” so activities are planned to engage children physically, emotionally and intellectually.

When the Buffalo Schools decided to go totally virtual with classes this fall, it was out of an abundance of caution to keep students and school staff safe from the viral spread of COVID-19. Due to all the economic inequities in our City, there are many families that struggle to make virtual education work effectively for their children. Some families have unreliable or no internet access. Others have parents who must go to work, and cannot supervise their children’s on-line schooling while working.

Other parents struggle to handle the technical challenges of how to navigate internet-based school platforms that their children must use. Some children due to learning disabilities, or other learning challenges, struggle to learn in this virtual mode. For parents that are totally frustrated with the challenges of virtual education, they can register their children for free for the Gloria Parks Virtual Learning Services Center by stopping by and picking up an application in the front vestibule of the community center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The top priority at Gloria Parks Community Center is keeping everyone safe and healthy during the pandemic. The community center has a COVID-19 safety plan which combines mandatory screening of all students and staff, mandatory mask wearing, maximum filtered fresh air circulation, social distancing, frequent hand-washing, and daily disinfection. The community center ran a 5-week summer camp with this same safety plan in July and August and everyone stayed safe and well.

This program is supported by Live Well Erie CARES Act Child Care Funding.

I know for me the words uttered by the GREATEST with regards to leadership, skills , being brash and trash talking to where he named himself such was the one and only GOAT, Muhammad Ali. But the end of the NBA basketball season has sparked a conversation that we need to delve into. I’ll take a pause now to wish all of you and yours health and strength as we continue to battle Covid.

Now back to our regular scheduled programming. LeBron James and the Lakers were able to claim the Bubble Championship for the 2019-2020 NBA season. With that victory “The Chosen One” as he was referred to on that famous cover of Sports Illustrated while in high school is once again being discussed in the same breath as his Airness, Michael. Arguments to spirited banter has arisen between me and my friends as well as all over media airwaves. People photo/Ashley Dorcely have taken up their picket signs and are on opposite sides of the isle campaigning for your vote and trying to convince you to switch up alliances. Old vs. young, those who sparingly watch basketball and avid fans all putting in their two sense.

Who’s the GOAT? The King or MJ??? What say you? Are we talking about rings? Maybe bringing up stats or even accolades as well as teammates that they’ve played with and teams they’ve played against. If not that then how about including on and off the court influence within their respective communities. The Greatest Of All Time! What a title to hold? Some say you can’t have one GOAT. Each era has it’s own. Some make the case that this person could not play in this time of basketball because the rules were and are different. Ali was the Greatest Of All Time when he said he was to some and still is to others regardless of statistics.

One thing I can state to be factual is that without Jordan there would be no LeBron. And by the way I don’t appreciate how Kobe Bryant is left out of the conversation.

As LeBron continues to climb the precipice of greatness he seems to be on the same flight pattern as “Air 23”. Only time will tell if he will catch him and ascend the thrown of the BEST to ever do it. By the way the song I referred to in the beginning is titled Forever and it was on the soundtrack of the movie which tells the story of LeBron and his childhood teammates that become family. The movie was called More Than A Game. Will the King become more than the GOAT???

Police Accountability Board Names Reynolds as Executive Director The Police Accountability Board (PAB) has announced their unanimous selection of Conor Dwyer Reynolds as their first Executive Director. .

Conor was born in the city of Rochester and graduated from the University of Rochester. His experience includes having worked for President Obama at the White House and on the President’s re-election campaign. After graduating from law school Conor clerked for the Honorable Carlton W. Reeves in federal court in Mississippi, helping manage cases involving police misconduct and discrimination against police officers. In his most recent position teaching law at Yale, he partnered with Rochester’s City Roots Community Land Trust to address racism in Monroe County.

“After an extensive search, that showcased significant talent, my colleagues and I unanimously selected Conor Dwyer Reynolds to lead us as the inaugural Executive Director of the Police Accountability Board,” Said Shani Wilson, Board Chair.

Helping Young People Flourish is Youth Bureau Director's Goal Brent Whitfield , the new Director of the Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau, expressed excitement at the opportunity to help young people flourish.

“I am so excited for the opportunity to advocate for Monroe County’s young people,” Whitfield said. “I will be making decisions with a trauma-informed, family-based lens guiding me, and am determined to reach the kids who truly need our help the most. I share County Executive Bello’s vision for the future of the Youth Bureau – one that is focused on helping all of our young people flourish.” .

“The Youth and our community will have an active voice, they will be the cornerstone of all the work we do around youth development in Monroe Brent Whitfield County,” he said. “Our goal is to actively engage our young people and support a holistic vision that will lead to informed systems of necessary supports and resources our youth need to reach their full potential. We will continue to seek to provide every opportunity for every youth to become healthy, productive adults.”

Under Whitfield’s leadership, the vision of the Monroe County Youth Bureau will include: •All youth, 21 years old or younger, will have the opportunity to grow up in a healthy, substance abuse free environment. We will provide the supports necessary for Youth to become productive members of society in a crime-free environment. They will be the voice on how we support the achievement of high academic success and physical/mental wellbeing. We will ensure a culturally sound plan forward by taking a deliberate approach to interacting with our youth.

•We will have a youth bureau where every youth’s opinion on how to meet their educational needs matter. We will work to ensure our youth obtain the skills necessary to be a member in the 21st century workforce.

•Assessed services for youth reflect that particular youth’s needs.

•Decisions made mirror the individual assessments so that services designed by and for our youth lead to happy, healthy members of our community.

•The youth bureau will have a keen focus on equity in funding ensuring equal representation of the populations served.

•Full community participation, as well as youth participation will help to ensure quality programming.

•The safety of youth is the utmost concern of the Bureau, we will work with our Youth and our community so that our youth have safe, supervised places they can go to in times of need.

Marsha McWilson Inducted into Niagara Falls Music Hall of Fame Western New York entertainer Marsha McWilson has been inducted into the Niagara Falls Music Hall of Fame Class of 2020.

Additionally, she is in the new “Who’s Who In America” book and was recently honored as a prominent woman in her community at a banquet given by God’s Woman Vanessa Scott Outreach Ministries, Inc. McWilson has performed locally, as well as nationally and internationally, singing a combination of Gospel, Jazz and Blues.

The Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center has Launched a New Virtual "Freedom Conversation" Tours The Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center has launched a new virtual "Freedom Conversation" tour program.

Freedom Conversations are the signature program at the Heritage Center.

The public can book their spot for the virtual “Freedom Conversation” tour at https://www.niagarafallsundergroundrailroad.org/ events/. The tours will last approximately 60 minutes and are led by trained facilitators, offering a way to foster empathy, increase knowledge, and encourage action. Making Their Own Workforce

Two Local Businessmen Join Together to Create History-Making Jobs Initiatives

arcus Garvey said it best.

“Take advantage of every opportunity; where there is none, make it for yourself.”

This has become the mantra of two local African American businessmen -Frank Daniel and Michael Peterson - whose singular vision and desire is to level the playing field for this city’s diverse workforce component; a city with a continual history of exclusion and separation from the American dream of economic security, despite an exploding construction industry.

Daniel is the Executive Director of Craft technical Institute (CTI), a New York State licensed Construction Trade School located on Manhattan Avenue. He has a history of successfully developing and training persons for a bright future in the construction industry. However, he realized over the years of working in vocational training that every company needs its own mechanism to keep a trained workforce.

Peterson is a contractor and owner of Peterson Heating and Cooling, a residential and commercial business. Like Daniel, he “recognized a long time ago that if I can work for a business and help make it successful, I can do it for my own business.” He also embraced the mantra “it’s time to make it yourself.”

The two visionary forces joined together and coupled with over 30 years of experience in the construction industry and their sheer tenacity, developed initiatives which will train a strong skilled trades workforce for building our future.

“At this point in time there exists tremendous opportunities for interested persons and companies to gain access to the construction industry at all levels,” stated Daniel.

However, key to having that access is to be able to bid on municipal jobs.

“We have put a program together to make open-shop companies have access to municipal projects,” he continued.

It’s a long- held notion that not being in a union, prohibits contractors from bidding on contracts in the city.

But a closer look at the wording in the city contracts suggest otherwise, said Frank.

“The language in the contracts from the city says that you have to be part of a registered NYSDOL apprenticeship program.

It does not say you have to be a union contractor,” he explained.

“And in order to be an apprenticeship program you need to be attached to a licensed educational component to deliver the education piece.”

“So we started our own apprenticeship program - Independent Contractors Guild of WNY (ICG), because we’re attached to a NYS licensed trade school, Craft technical Institute (CTI). Now we have access to 85% of all the companies in WNY who are not part of the union. If they come through here - they can now bid on stadium projects and any other municipal projects.”

Through partnerships with ICG , contractors can be assured of meeting compliance protocols with the municipal bidding process by way of certified MBE/MWBE/SDVE companies, explained Frank. The ICG apprenticeship training program is a combination of structured on the job training (OJT) with a skilled trainer and trade specific core skill related instruction. “They have to join the Contractor’s Guild ( ICG ) like they would any guild but it will be a lot more affordable…” he added. “They will still be able to eat and can go after any job… they can be competitive. It levels the playing field.”

Mike, a founding member of ICG, recalled his own personal experience attempting to grow his business.

“For my company to actually join a union it would be very expensive,” he said. “ I’ve had my business for about 20 years now.

possible to survive unless I had a ton of money.”

“The Independent Contractors Guild is a natural workforce for all companies involved,” said Frank. “I can’t stress enough how important this project is. It will be a force for all companies involved.”

He admitted this movement may be perceived as anti-union by some.

“That’s to be expected,“ he responded. “But we’re only interested in making the playing field equal, because there are good majority companies out here as well, that can do the job as good as any union contractor, but they can’t bid…and they would hire minorities, women, and the disenfranchised within the field if they had the work.”

“Now we can change minds,” he concluded. “We’ve struggle long enough. My mentors are gone… Johnnie Wiley, Willie Edwards and others who would not take foolishness from anybody.

This is my legacy.”

As far as push back from the powers that be?

“I’m not worried ,”he said. “We have a real chance now.”

Forbes recently announced that it estimates Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry’s net worth is $1 billion and stated that he was on a “clear path to future membership in The Forbes 400.” The finance site breaks down his cash and investments ($300 million), stake in BET+ ($60 million), his content library ($320 million), homes and toys ($40 million), and his 330-acre studio ($280 million).

In his earlier days, he produced a play called I Know I’ve Been Changed, about child-abuse survivors; during a period of three months, he lived out of his car (on and off) while he pushed on to garner attention for the project.

Also bring your cane or a chair if you have difficulty standing for a long period of time.

Restrooms are available inside the polling site but you must leave campaign literature outside the building and campaign t-shirts with candidates' names and pictures must be covered up before one goes inside.

020 has been an interesting year to say the least. Besides a Global Pandemic, we're dealing with extreme racism and criminality at the highest levels of our government. People are speaking with emotion and passion.

The people want justice. During these tough times, we end up searching for guidance through all this madness. We end up asking ourselves “Where do we go from here?”

On Monday, November 7th we will get a brilliant answer to that question. WNY Peace Center is holding its 53rd annual event: An evening with Dr. Cornel West. “None of us alone can save the nation or world. But each of us can make a positive difference if we commit ourselves to do so.” Words from the great Cornel West.

The current plan is to host this talk projected at North Park Theatre, 1438 Hertel Avenue, Buffalo, NY. There is an option to view this presentation through your own Zoom meeting with family or close friends (one ticket per computer) OR with the wider Peace community at the theater (one ticket per person) with masks and physical distancing measures, of course, as recommended by health officials at the time. D. Cornel West is an author, activist, philosopher, and professor. He is a Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy at Harvard University and holds the title of Professor Emeritus at Princeton University. Brother West has written and edited many books. He is best known for his memoir, Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud, as well as classics such as Race Matters and Democracy Matters. Dr. West has even produced a spoken word album working with a variety of different artists such as Jill Scott, Andre 3000, and Talib Kweli to name a few.

The New York State Parole Board has finally ordered the release of Jalil Muntaqim, aka Anthony Bottom, a former member of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army. Imprisoned for nearly 50 years, since he was 19, Muntaqim is one of the longest-held political prisoners in the world.At the end of April, the New York State Supreme Court ordered Muntaqim released because both his age and serious medical conditions.

In these current times is it great to have a voice to help us through the turmoil. It is important that we listen to those who have experience and those who understand how to bring us together. Dr. West has both of those skills and everyone in Buffalo now has the opportunity to now hear his words and message. There will also be a basket raffle, silent auction, and virtual marketplace. In the latest unrest calling for the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse over corruption charges, Haitian police on Saturday fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse anti-government protesters who blocked roads and set fires in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

Several people were injured during the exchange of more than a year of protests. President Moïse is now running the country by decree after a political impasse without a parliament. Haitians are not happy with the government’s pandemic response, alleging that authorities have not done enough to provide treatment for those affected, or offered economic support for those who lost work due to a national lockdown aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the impoverished country.The police have held their own protests this year, demanding better pay and working conditions.

Readers Are Leaders

T

here is injustice in America.

There is discrimination. There is a legacy of racism and inequality that lives still in our institutions, our laws, and in too many people’s hearts that makes it harder for Black people to succeed. These are facts in the United States of America in 2020, and we must all do more to move our nation closer to the ideals inlaid at our founding—that all women and men are created equal.

JOE BIDEN This year has also brought us too many examples of the dangers Black people can face in the course of going about their lives.

With grieving hearts, we learned to say the names of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, and many more. I’ve spent time with the families of George Floyd and Jacob Blake, sharing their grief and anger and seeing the incredible resilience of communities that for too long have had a knee on their neck. And I was inspired by their commitment to turn their pain into purpose.

Today, there are Americans all across this country, especially Black Americans, who are exhausted and hurting. Who are disappointed by a system that never seems to deliver for your communities. Who are sick and tired of a cycle where, in good times, Black communities lag behind, in bad times they get hit first and hardest, and in recovery, they take the longest to bounce back.

We’re in the midst of four simultaneous crises—a pandemic that has claimed more than 200,000 lives, a disproportionate number of whom were Black; an economic crash that has hit Black workers and Black business owners especially hard; a long overdue reckoning on racial justice; and a climate crisis that is already hurting Black and Brown communities the most.

It is our job to do everything in our power to rip out systemic racism across our society, root and branch. It will be hard work in any case. But we will not succeed without a leader who understands our history and is ready to grapple with our challenges.

President Trump wants to paper over the living wound of racism. He’s issued Executive Orders and established a new national commission designed to whitewash our history—and deny the daily reality of being Black in America. He actively appeals to white supremacists and fans the flames of hatred and division in our country, because he thinks it benefits him politically. He ignores the most basic job of every president: the duty to care for all of us, not just those who voted for him.

It’s the polar opposite of what I will do as president. I was proud to serve for eight years alongside President Obama. I watched up close how he filled the Oval Office with dignity and compassion for others. And, together with Senator Kamala Harris as my vice president, we will restore honor, integrity, and competence to the White House.

We will build an administration that looks like America, including nominating the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.

We will work to unite the country around solutions that will push our country forward, and most importantly, I will listen to those impacted by the long-standing inequities in our system—especially Black Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans, and Native Americans.

That’s how we will work together to deliver real, lasting change. Criminal justice and policing reforms, but also economic opportunity and financial stability. Building wealth for families of color and passing it down. Closing the racial wealth gap is one of the most powerful ways we can build real equity in our society, and it’s going to require a full-court press.

That’s what my Lift Every Voice plan is—a comprehensive agenda to take on the range of issues that drive inequality in Black America.

We’ll tackle student debt and invest more in our HBCUs, so higher education is a pathway to wealth and opportunity instead of to debt that prevents you from owning a home or starting a small business.

My plan will empower Black-owned small businesses, with short-term relief to get you through this tough time and long-term investments to help you build back better — with access to new capital and financing and government contracts.

Critically, we’re going to tackle the racial homeownership gap head on. There is no greater vehicle for wealth creation than homeownership. That’s why my plan will restore the steps President Obama and I took toward eradicating housing discrimination, including redlining; end racial bias in how we judge which families are credit-worthy; and provide a $15,000 down payment tax credit to help millions of young Black families buy their first home.

We’ll fix our upside-down tax system to finally reward work, not wealth. Trump thinks billionaires deserve more tax cuts. But under my plan, I’ll make sure the super wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share, while ensuring that no one making less than $400,000 a year sees their taxes go up.

And I’m going to fight like hell to defend your family’s health care, just like I would my own. Right now, in the midst of a pandemic, Donald Trump is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Obamacare—all of it. He wants to overturn the very law that expanded coverage to an additional 3 million Black Americans. If he succeeds, more than 20 million Americans will lose their coverage, and more than 100 million people with preexisting

"Will We Remember The Titans" This is a call to all Titans. The title for idols and special individuals that are gigantic in size or power. To the people who stand out for greatness and achievements. This is the definition of titans that I need these so-called role models and leaders to lead with. We live in an era where everything has to be new. As a society, we do not fully understand that old school running game principles still apply to today's time so we don't fumble like a quarterback who isn't protected on his blindside. With power comes responsibility. It is the media's unwavering responsibility to get the facts straight before putting out a story.

Regardless of how much we talk about them, the media has a gravitational force to sway the minds of many. As this article pertains to the Tennessee Titans a story was leaked by media that the NFL was going to offer the Buffalo Bills a forfeiture because it was reported that the Tennessee Titans broke protocol by having a practice outside of their team facilities because a Covid-19 outbreak was spreading amongst the organization. Is this action irresponsible? In my opinion it is but we also have to remember that the NFL did not want to lose money so they rushed a season that did not have to start in September. So this decision was based upon money being more valuable than the precious lives of many who have families. Again I want to remind you that with power comes responsibility. So the NFL was investigating the Tennessee Titans for breaking covid-19 protocols and this idea of giving a football team a win was looming large amongst the NFL fan base. Well that's when I started asking questions like where this rule of forfeiture come into play. And as my Rise Up Family would say "I never heard of em". So my mind gets the racing I start doing research and found out that the league hadn't talked about adding a forfeiture rule until October 5th. So I ask you how can you discipline a team with a rule that didn't exist before this situation occurred? Deeper and deeper into the thought processes I went. I asked myself, " isn't this the same type of stuff that goes on with our policing nowadays charging folks for things that they shouldn't have charged them for or charging folks for things that didn't exist at the time?"

Again I say with power comes responsibility. The lack of integrity baffles me. It told me you can dress the part and have a whole lot of money but that don't make you smart or responsible enough to understand that with power comes responsibility. But here comes the worst part, after talking with Muki Hawkins, who is my co-host on Buffalo Bills Edition of Rise Up Early and a beat reporter for the Buffalo Bills who is connected to some other people as well........The fact of the Tennessee Titans breaking any protocols is in question as it was expressed from the media surrounding the Titans that the team never knew about any of these rules. So with all this speculation, who is really at fault in this situation?

We as a society have to be careful with who we entrust ourselves with. The disingenuous behaviors of those who we look up to should not go unnoticed especially when they obtain power that is gravitating to our society. Our existence is remembered by what you did, how you did it and what you left behind with the what you did. How will you Remember The Titans?
