magine sitting in front of your floor model radio or high-fi early on a Sunday morning listening to Mahalia Jackson, Clara Ward and the Ward Singers, Sallie Martin, The Caravans, Dorothy Love Coates and the Rev. James Cleveland.

Picture the 45’s 78’s and 33 ½ records and albums of Thomas Dorsey, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, or Professor Alex Bradford, Dixie Hummingbirds, Soul Stirrers and the Five Blind boys of Mississippi.

If you are able to visualize this, you have experienced Traditional Gospel Music at its best.

Sunday morning radio stations throughout the north and south played the recording of Brother Joe Mays, Roberta Martin, Bessie Griffin, Willie Mae Ford Smith and The Davis Sisters, to name a few. African American Church presented these Gospel Greats at Sunday afternoon Programs for decades.

Large picture posters covered store windows, barbershops, Bishop James Evans beautician’s shops and telephone poles announcing which recording artists were coming to town.

Long gone are the days of the Old Time Gospel Singing; the kind of call and response pulse that moves you to wave your hand and pat your feet. Or are they?

Not so fast. You can still be blessed with, and sing along to0, the Gospel sounds and songs of the past at St. Luke’s Tabernacle Community Church, located at 1261 Dewey Avenue in Rochester, Pastored by Bishop James Evans.

Yes, every First Sunday of the month there is a 5 o’clock afternoon Service featuring Professor Marvin Rogers and his music ministry.

First Sunday, introduced in September, is a Service where the Voices of Tabernacle, along with the Marvin Rogers Singers, ministers vocal praise accompanied by skillful musicians.

Classic Gospel music, solos and the great Hymns of the Church are presented in a power packed hour and a half.

The sounds of the Service will transform you to place back in time. It will make to reminisce of days gone by.

The artistry of Professor Rogers in second to none. He plays the piano with great skill and stumps his foot with mighty energy.

The eight singers and three musicians, whose sound is much larger, are posed and professional, but that doesn’t stop them when the Spirit moves – they will throw up their hands and add a few extra words of praise to the songs.

Whether they are singing The Lord’s Prayer or one of the Gospel Classics the sound is electrifying.

Audience participation is encouraged from the beginning to the end of the Service. The Congregational Hymns invoke the presence of oneness and make you feel part of a sanctuary choir.

FIRE PREVENTION MONTH October is National Fire Prevention Month and firehouses throughout the city are hosting open houses to encourage increased fire safety and prevention in Buffalo. Residents are invited to attend the following Fire Prevention and Safety Open Houses in Buffalo: Saturday, October 24, Engine 3, Broadway and Monroe 9:30-11 a.m.; Engine 21/Ladder 6, Jefferson and Kingsley 12:30-2 pm. Free smoke detectors, coloring books and fire prevention safety tips will be distributed. Services Set for James F. Anderson Jim Anderson will be remembered by many as President of the James Management Company and credited with new home developments in Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara Falls and Lackawanna. Organizers of Solar City Protest Rally Announce Weekly Planning Meetings

Fisher, president of B.U.I.L.D. of Buffalo organization and Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant have announced that they will host weekly strategy and planning meetings to address the lowering of the minority hiring goals at Solar City and other publicly funded construction projects in and around the City of Buffalo.

These meetings will be held at either the newly named Buffalo Empowerment Center, 1327 Jefferson Ave. or across the street at the Frank E. Merriweather Library when it is available. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, October 15th, 6-8 p.m. the 1327 Jefferson Avenue address.

"I am extremely happy that a group of ten or more not for profit or activists' organizations from the east and west sides of Main Street have banded together to advocate for our Black and Brown 'brothers and sisters' who may be having difficulty in getting into an union apprenticeship training program or getting hired on the many construction sites and projects around the city," said Fisher.

These meetings are open to the public and former and present minority contractors, M/WBE's businesses and construction workers. All are invited to attend these meeting to share insight and testimony regarding the lack of adequate ethnic diversity in the construction trade. For more information, contact Charley H. The announcement of the weekly planning meetings come on the heels of last Friday’s protest and rally outside the Solar City Plant being built on South Park Avenue. The “Call to Action” was held after it was revealed that minority hiring goals were decreased from 25% to 15% without public notification or input.

The rally for inclusion, fairness and jobs - which drew nearly 100 people – took place despite a press conference called by Mayor Brown, who shared data which said that minorities have done 16.2% of the work on the site from the start of construction in May 2014 through July of this year, “exceeding the workforce diversity targets” set for the $900 million solar panel factory.

When complete, Solar City will be the biggest solar panel plant in the Western Hemisphere when it reaches full production during early 2017.

Amid chants of “No Justice No Peace” and “No Jobs, No Peace!” demonstrators on Friday called on LP Ciminelli, the main contractor at Solar City, to raise the hiring goal to 25% for minorities.

Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant is calling for an independent monitor to keep track of whether minority and women hiring goals are being met at the construction site. At this point she said there is no outside monitor and “you can’t have the developer monitoring itself.”

“The only thing needed on the East side, to quote the late Bill Gaiter, is jobs, jobs, jobs!” said one of several speakers at the rally, Rev. Kinzer Pointer of the Concerned Clergy of WNY. Saying “you can’t play games with numbers” and referring to the poor minority hiring as “immoral, criminal and unjust,” he admonished. “Someone needs to tell the governor this is not acceptable!”

John Washington, community organizer for PUSH BUFFALO, declaring that “Buffalo is more segregated than Birmingham Alabama,” said “we live in a racist city” and lamented how the Buffalo billions had been racially applied “I’m only 30 and I’m tired!”

“This is a crime scene…that’s being repeated all over the nation,” activist and radio personality Jim Anderson said in reference to the construction site. “We don’t need City Hall to sign a pledge of words…we need them to sign a pledge for jobs! We’re going to get some jobs or shut it down!”

“In order for there to be peace there has to be justice,” Anderson continued. “Where there is not justice, there is no peace!”

Bishop Michael Badger, Pastor of Bethesda World Harvest International Church, called for jobs,equity and quality education for our children. “It can’t be ONE BUFFALO if the East Side doesn’t have the same opportunities (as other areas).” He called for an even greater minority hiring goal.

“Governor we need you to establish goals of at least 30% on Solar City….Mayor, you don’t get a pass either. An economic roundtable does not give jobs!”

Bishop Badger said this community was looking for Mayor Brown “to raise the goals” instead of saying its ok to drop the goals.

The Oblate Sisters The Oblate Sisters of Providence are the oldest order of Black nuns in the world.

Founded in 1829 by Rev. Father James Hector Joubert and Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange, (pictured) the order still exists today and continues Mother Mary’s dedication of service to children and the poor.

Not much is known about Lange’s early life and historians have produced several conflicting documents. What most researchers agree on is that she was born around 1784 in Santiago de Cuba and raised in the French-speaking region of the nation. Lange was also connected to a family of means and social standing.

After arriving in Baltimore in 1813, Lange encountered other Caribbean people and realized they should be educated.

Though Maryland was then a slave state, Lange began teaching people for free using her own money and the home she shared with Mary Frances Balas in Fells Point.

In 1828. Father Joubert came to Lange with the idea of beginning a school for Black girls, which subsequently led Lange to pledge her life to the Catholic Church. In July 1829, Lange, Sister Balas and two other women formed the Oblate Sisters order. In 1831, the order was officially recognized by the larger church body.

Can Hillary Rely on Black Voters to Counter Bernie’s Surge?

ith the release of every poll, Hillary Clinton's onceunquestioned advantage in the Democratic 2016 field seems to erode just a little more as Bernie Sanders creeps ahead in New Hampshire and now Iowa.

But the true test may lie in whether Clinton can retain what has long been the family's political firewall: strong support from African-American voters.

So far, polling indicates that support remains intact, and Sanders is not exactly winning over the Black Democratic constituency. But analysts still say Clinton will need to pay attention to issues important to that community or she could start to lose them. And if she continues to slip in New Hampshire and Iowa, that support -- and turnout -- becomes even more critical in follow-on contests like South Carolina and Florida.

"Clinton is popular, but that does not automatically guarantee a good turnout. It's about organization and motivation," said Terry Madonna, director of the Franklin & Marshall Poll in Pennsylvania. "She needs to energize Black voters and talk about their issues that help motivate turnout.

“I'm not convinced she's done that yet."

The X-factor, as it has been for months, may be whether Vice President Biden enters the race.

An August poll by Gallup made clear that, for now, Sanders is not resonating with black voters like Clinton is. Her favorability among black adults was at 80 percent, compared with 23 percent for Sanders (many were not even familiar with Sanders).

Biden was not listed in that survey. But Gallup pointed out that a late entry by Biden "could threaten her dominant favorability among blacks, because Biden is nearly as well-known as Clinton, and the black community views him quite positively."

Clinton, who has shared a steadfast bond with Black voters since her husband Bill Clinton's first term as president in 1992, is no doubt aware of the need to cultivate that connection. In April, Clinton took to the stage at Columbia University to talk about "hard truths" relating to race and the "era of mass incarceration," police brutality, and other justice issues affecting the Black community.

Later in August, after Black Lives Matters activists tried to disrupt a campaign event in Keene, N.H., on Aug. 11, Clinton spent 15 minutes with them in a private meeting, caught on video, listening to their concerns and offering advice. The video of the tense session was posted online.

In a hypothetical general election, it would appear the support of Black voters is not much up for grabs right now. A late August Quinnipiac poll showed Clinton with 92 percent of the Black vote against Republican Jeb Bush and 91 percent against Donald Trump. In the same match-ups, Sanders won 79 percent and 76 percent of the Black vote, respectively.

But to get to the general election, she'll have to get through the primaries. And Sanders is complicating her path to winning those delegates.

A CBS News/YouGov poll released recently showed Sanders surging in Iowa, leading Clinton 43-33 percent. In New Hampshire, he leads by more than 20 percentage points.

Sanders' rise would make the first-in-the-South contest in South Carolina -- and subsequent contests -- critical for Clinton. The same poll indeed shows Clinton leading comfortably in South Carolina, 46-23 percent.

"If the election were held here today, I have no doubt she would win and win handily," said Alissa Warters, who teaches political science at Francis Marion University in South Carolina.

But there's that Biden factor again. Biden -- who is not a declared candidate -- pulls 22 percent in South Carolina. And while Sanders attracts little support from black voters there, Continued Page 11

BY NIGEL ROBERTS Two outside investigators examining the fatal shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in November 2014 concluded that Cleveland police officers acted reasonably, CNN reports.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty released those finding Saturday. McGinty said in a statement that a grand jury will ultimately decide whether criminal charges against the officers are warranted.

Rice was playing with a pellet gun at a Cleveland recreational center when Officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback pulled up to him Nov. 22, 2014. A video captured the moment when the officers in a patrol car, responding to a 911 call, pull up to Rice. Loehmann shoots the boy within seconds of arriving. The officers reportedly were not aware that a witness had said that the gun was probably a fake and that Rice looked like a juvenile.

“There can be no doubt that Rice’s death was tragic and, indeed, when one considers his age, heartbreaking,” S. Lamar Sims, the senior chief deputy district attorney in Denver and one of the two independent experts, writes in his report (PDF).

“However, for all of the reasons discussed herein, I conclude that Officer Loehmann’s belief that Rice posed a threat of serious physical harm or death was objectively reasonable as was his response to that perceived threat.” the Ohio Highway Patrol, were posted on the prosecutor’s website.

Subodh Chandra, an attorney for Rice’s family, said the experts are “pro-police,” adding that they are part of a “whitewashing” of the shooting, according to CNN.

Texas Councilman Tased A Texas councilman was stunned with a Taser in front of his Prairie View home Thursday during an incident involving police—one of whom was reportedly involved in Sandra Bland's arrest.

According to Click 2 Houston, Prairie View police officers were questioning four men about drug activity when police say Councilman Jonathan Miller began interfering with the investigation since the men being questioned were guests at his home. According to KHOU, the men were Miller's fraternity brothers and were outside to practice a step routine for homecoming when police began questioning them.

Video of the incident, which was captured on officers' body cams and released to the public, shows Miller, 26, telling an officer, "Please do not put your hands on me!"

He adds: "I live here." A male and female officer can be heard off camera telling Miller to put his hands behind his back. Shortly after issuing the command, Miller is stunned with the Taser. He screams and falls to the ground.

An officer says off camera, "Oh yeah, he's going to jail for resisting."

The video shows that while Miller did not have his hands behind his back when police stunned him with the Taser, he was on his knees with his hands by his side.

Miller was charged with resisting arrest and interference.

licenses in counties with 75% Black registered voters Alabama just took a major step to block Black residents from being able to vote.

Effective immediately, Alabama will stop issuing driver’s licenses in counties where 75% of registered voters are Black.

This is a devastating blow to Alabama’s Black voters as Alabama is one of the 17 states that requires a photo ID to vote.

Voter ID laws already disenfranchise Black and low-income people by making voting extremely difficult and costly.2 Now Alabama has made it next to impossible for Black voters to get the necessary ID to vote. The move comes just one year after the state’s voter photo ID law went into effect.The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says the shutdowns are due to budget cuts, . Thirty-one 31 satellite DMV offices would no longer have access to driver’s licenses examiners, meaning that residents will need to travel to other counties to apply for licenses.

Eight of the 10 Alabama counties with the highest percentage of Black registered voters that will stop issuing driver’s licenses include Macon, Greene, Sumter, Lowndes, Bullock, Perry, Wilcox, Dallas, Hale, and Montgomery, according to the Alabama Secretary of State’s office.

Driving While Making Direct Eye Contact...

Looks like there’s another item that can be added to The Root’s ongoing list of things you can’t do while black: making direct, uninterrupted eye contact with a police officer. An Ohio police officer admitted on camera that he stopped John Felton, a Black man, “because you made direct eye contact with me, and you held on to it while I was passing you,” after initially claiming that he stopped Felton for failing to signal. Talk show host and Huffington Post blogger David Pakman, who wrote about the incident for the site.

It claims the decision was made following a survey that revealed a decline in pork's popularity.

A spokesman said: 'Why keep pushing food that people don’t want to eat?'

He insisted that the decision had nothing to do with religious preferences.

But the National Pork Producers Council said: 'We find it hard to believe a majority of any population would say "No thanks, I don’t want any bacon."'

This isn't the first time that pork has been eliminated from prison menus.

The prison system in Tarrant County, Texas hasn't served pork to prisons for the past 15 years, in order to better serve Muslim and Jewish prisoners whose diet strictly forbids pork and any other foods coming into contact with pork.

Immune Boosting Foods Line Dance

Elderberry It’s an old folk remedy. This fruit is loaded with antioxidants and may help fight inflammation. In some test-tube studies, an extract from the berries appears to block flu viruses. But scientists caution that more study is needed.

Justice or Else: Sharing the Pain

To Who Ever Is Willing To Help...

he spirit and work of Dr. Martin Luther King loomed large over the 20th anniversary commemoration of the Million Man March. In fact, the Honorable Louis Farrakhan had pledged to continue along the precise trajectory that Dr. King was travelling at the time of his murder, by using the powerful tactic of economic withdrawal. The first activity to be employed in this strategy – is cancelling Christmas.

Dear Editor: am living in the City of Buffalo. We are suffering with poverty, a struggling educational system, out in the open street drug dealing, gunshots and a murder almost every day in the last couple of months. I have become frustrated living in the city of Buffalo with no development or opportunity in the area I live in.

I work everyday and I take care of my house and my family.

Living a law abiding life does not take away the fear of being linked with crime. We are all affected by the fear of stray bullets and the constant roadblocks on the east side of the city.

The roadblocks I keep seeing by the Buffalo police are not helping the fight against crime. All I see is the police wasting time when they could be looking for those that commit crime. Thankfully, after being faced with police during the inspection, I haven’t received a ticket YET. I’ve been through the roadblock thing almost a dozen times. All the times when I was stopped, the police cars had STRIKE FORCE on the side. Who is that and what do they do besides road blocks?

It is aggravating that some of my family and neighbors and church members are being charged with traffic tickets, fines and towing fees on the east side of Buffalo –more than any other neighborhood in the city. Lets just say I doubt that happens in South Buffalo. My elderly neighbors car was taken to the impound for being in an accident. The officer told her that his policy would not allow for her to use her AAA membership to have her suv towed to a car shop. WHAT HAPPENED TO OFFICER FRIENDLY? The blight around Buffalo is in the inner city where the minority people live and then being pounced on by the police too. I keep hearing about it more and more. The struggling east side cannot move forward. Downtown Buffalo has come a long way but at whose expense?

I know the federal government did a study in Ferguson about police giving out fines for minor stuff, just to bring in money for the city and arrest minorities. Is this what the Buffalo Police Department is about? Handing out tickets all day? Arresting people for small stuff? What about donating some of that ticket money to pay for the funerals of the people killed in the streets? We can’t pass these people off as gang members that some think deserve to die. A life is a life. No one should be shot dead in the street. These police roadblocks are not stopping the killings.

I know police enforcement is NECESSARY, but it does not have to be EVIL. Tickets and tows equal cash for the city. It is unfair and painful to our already cash strapped “hood.” The Buffalo police attempt at cracking down on crime has failed. People in the city are being bullied by the police department. One night I stood in my yard and talked with a group of neighbors. We were complaining about the road block they faced as they were coming home from work. That day the road block was set up on one side of the Suffolk expressway and while they were there a person was shot and killed in the near by Langfield projects. The police officers were standing there when maybe they could have stopped a killer. Instead they had cars lined up for daily inspection.

I bet this happens more than we know. Murders while road blocking. The police department is messed up. I’ve seen this police commissioner Derenda on tv and all he says is what he thinks people want to hear, as the bodies pile up. And where are the peace makers people? They used to be all over the news now we just see a bunch of yellow shirts at the scene. Like I said before, if the leadership of the city is the Mayor and that Derenda, we are in a world of hurt for the ast side of town. We are paying in blood sweat tears.

We remember how the dollar was weaponized during the glorious demonstration of “made up minds” called the Montgomery Bus Boycott. We remember that on the day before his assassination, Dr. King was calling for a boycott of Coca Cola, and Sealtest Milk, and Wonder Bread in response those companies’ unfair hiring practices. And we remember that just last year, during massive upheavals following the murder of Michael Brown, many on social media were pushing for a boycott of the Christmas buying season. We do know that those who participated had an impact, through general reports of slumping sales. But while the impact of black buying habits is closely tracked, every effort is made to keep the news of our success a secret from us. No matter. We’ll hear about it soon, as the massive economic boycott of this year’s Christmas hits with resounding fury, and sparks a resurgence of the effort to build a black economy.

That too, is what Dr. King was talking about on April 3, 1968. He called Sabirah on the community to withdraw our money from wherever it was, and to Muhammad put it in black banks. He said that we should place our business with black insurance companies and “strengthen black institutions.” Referring to the beleaguered sanitation workers on whose behalf he had come to town he said: “only the garbage men have been feeling the pain. Now we must redistribute the pain.”

As Black folk in America continue to suffer the pain of oppression in every area of our lives, we are quickly moving to the brink. As Eric Garner is set upon by a roving pack of beasts in blue and choked to death on camera, and Malissa Williams and Timothy Russell die in a hail of 137 bullets fired by 13 police officers, and 12 year old Tamir Rice is shot on sight… As judges and juries continue to protect the murderers of our people in these and countless heinous crimes, we are fast approaching the breaking point, where the pain of prolonged injustice produces the insanity of wanton backlash. And make no mistake about it – even the fratricidal killing that plagues inner city hotbeds is state sponsored – and state sanctioned. Stop tolerating those who hurl the fallacy of “black on black crime” at our children, whose positive self image and natural, divine development are retarded from birth, and who are deliberately locked in debilitating need to produce the desperate and violent behaviors we’re witnessing.

When we utter the phrase “Justice, or Else,” it’s not just cowardice that drives some among us to posit the question: “Or else what?” We saw those military tanks and rocket launchers trained on our unarmed, peaceful protestors in St. Louis, Missouri. We heard the policeman in Tulsa say “F” your breath” to a black man as he lay dying. We know that when Sandra Bland cried out that the arresting officer had hurt her by slamming her head into the ground, his response was: “good.” We remember the bombs dropped on the home of John Africa in Philadelphia… killing men, women and children. We know that those who traded in the white robes of the klan for the black robes of judges - and that the police, who began as organized bands of slave catchers – lust for our blood today as they always have.

But Dr. King was right about something else. “We don’t need Molotov cocktails,” he said.

Indeed. Why not leverage the power of unity, before insanity sets in? Let’s cancel Christmas.

Let’s start with an effective blow to the economy, to share the sensation of economic sanctions… like the ones that Black folk have experienced since we set foot upon the shores of America.

This would be a bold first move, one that hopefully, will spark the energy needed to continue on, building a black economy to finance our own freedom.

For those who still feel powerless, and at the mercy of the deadliest and biggest arsenal of killing machines in the world, reflect on this: How did a hurricane… whose very nature is chaotic, instantly changeable, erratic and unpredictable whirlwind fury… skip all over North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia, and only ravage South Carolina? South Carolina, where a cop was caught on camera, firing bullets into Walter Scott… where Dylan Roof walked into the Mother Emmanuel Church and slaughtered 9 Black people. But black folk were affected too, you say. Need we mention again – that Mother Emmanuel is the church family that turned in Denmark Vesey, refusing to be free? It’s the same family that today, refused to allow Minister Farrakhan to come as he builds momentum for the 20th anniversary march. Moreover, all of the black churches in the area refused him access. We serve a god who knows how to make a point.

By the way, how does one shoot or bomb a hurricane?

For those who can’t quite grasp the idea of a divine hit on a specific target… just grip tightly the idea of unity. Let’s agree that black folk have soaked this land with enough of our blood. For the sake of our lives, for the sake of the peace, hold onto the love inherent in the gift of giving, which is a gift within itself. But instead of Christmas draining us, let the lack of it drain this unjust nation. Remember the reason for the season...but kick Santa to the curb!

CLINTON/BLACKS continued Biden's support in the poll stood at 34 percent among likely black Democratic voters. Clinton's was at 52 percent.

Black voter turnout historically has been strong in these contests. Exit polling in 2008 showed roughly 55 percent of Democratic primary voters in South Carolina were black. In 2004, nearly half of those voting in the primary were black. Secretary of state figures show "nonwhite" participation in the Palmetto Democratic primary has risen significantly since the 1980s.

Clinton has lost ground with Black voters before, albeit when she was running against the man who would be the first black president. In the 2008 primary, Clinton lost South Carolina to Obama by 29 points. Her husband was blamed by analysts, in part, for injecting race into the campaign there. Former President Clinton called that a "myth," but the charges tainted the race through the rest of the primary.

"2008 was a hiccup for Hillary Clinton, but I think African Americans are willing to forgive and forget on that one," Warters suggested.

Sanders, meanwhile, has been trying to burnish his reputation with Black voters after a rough start in August when he was pushed from the stage at a Seattle event by two Black Lives Matter activists. Last weekend, he took a swing through South Carolina, making an appearance with liberal black scholar Cornel West at the historically black Benedict College, then onto Winthrop College and the city of Florence. The Washington Post reported that the crowds at the two latter events were mostly white.

"Senator Sanders needs the Black vote in South Carolina if he, like Barack Obama did in 2008, hopes to fundamentally challenge and best Clinton's front-runner status," noted Todd Shaw, an African American studies professor at the University of South Carolina.

D.C. Rally Draws Tens of Thousands: Focuses on Unity, Justice and Love for Self “This is not a moment, this is a movement!”

ashinton, D.C. - On 10.10.15. despite the near major media blackout before the event - tens of thousands gathered on the National Mall in the nation’s capital for the “Justice or Else” rally to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the historic Million Man March.

Like that divine gathering two decades ago, the event was a call to action. It took stock of where we stand today not just as Black Americans, but all oppressed people, and provided what we must do in order to continue the work to change our condition. It was marked by the spirit of oneness, purpose and hope; of love, brotherhood, peace and the promise that the rally was not a one shot, feel good experience; rather just the beginning of a unified operation to break the psychological, emotional and economic chains that bind us.

“This is not a moment,” promised the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan echoing the host of eloquent speakers before him, “this is a movement!”

It was an amazing and beautiful sight to behold; a sea of Black and brown faces; men, women and children of all races and ethnicities, representing all walks of life. Most impressive was the number of young people present– future torch bearers – and a display of the still strong and very present Nation of Islam; the women in their beautiful garb; the men in suit and tie; the FOI in uniform ready to serve, defend and protect.

One critic called it “a pageant for Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.”

Minister Farrakhan, divinely inspired, had the vision to call the historic event and the Nation hosted it. However the Christian church/community was well represented and involved in convening it.

Rev. Willie Wilson, whose rousing remarks preceded Minister Farrakhan, was the co-convener of the Justice or Else March and Rally. The Native American Nation was front and center. A beautiful, Black Native American women sang during opening ceremonies. Representatives from the Latino and, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Black Lives Matter, the Palestinian and Mexican American

community, the NACCP, The reparations Movement, Puerto Rico, Africa and beyond were represented.

The pageantry was in the people whose common thread, was the desire for a peaceful, just and fair existence.

The Message Huge jumbotrons dotted the landscape of the National Mall, providing everyone an opportunity to see and hear the program. Families sat together on the lawn, others brought folding chairs, while most stood. The atmosphere was festive, but at the same time serious. Organizations from around the country displayed their banners, flags and signs in supprt of this important and historic day. According to reports the crowds started converging on the Mall at 4 a.m. The program opened with Christian, Muslim and Native American prayers. The Justice or Else Choir brought the house down with their stirring spiritual renditions.

There were a host of speakers Prior to Minister Farrakhan’s keynote address including: *Rev. Ben Chavis: “Problems still exist in our community in how we treat and relate to each other as brothers and sisters. All we need is love of self and love of one another.”

He also called on all religions to work together. *Student Minister Bro. Nuri Muhammad who said the community was tired of seeing young Black men murdered by the “Blue Klux Klan,” remarked, “We’re fighting a war on two fronts…not just fighting White supremacy but Black ‘niggativity’ too” (Black on Black killing and self hatred) *The son of the late Mayor Marion Berry: We must reclaim the lives of our youth, he implored, and instead of “slangin’ and banging” teach them “saving and building.” *Bro. Ismael Muhammad, National Assistant to Minister Louis Farrakhan: “We are here today because the Black man in America, the Native Americans, Indigenous and poor of this nation must have justice…” adding “It’s time for America to know that God is present.” *Rev. Willie Wilson: “We are here not to disrespect anyone but respect ourselves… not to offend anyone but to defend ourselves…not to hurt

anyone else but here to help ourselves…here today to answer the question of whether we will demand justice and fair dealing or whether we will continue to be socially, economically, psychologically, physically and spiritually oppressed….Today is a call and a demand to come together to focus not on what divides us but what unites us.” Referring to “silly, stupid, petty titles and labels” we wear, he quipped “We are all catching hell, so what in the hell are we fighting over? We are here to destroy self hate, fear, anger and dislike of each other.”

“All of us must answer this question today. Whether or not we will continue to be social doormats and economic stepping stones of our oppressors…We are here today because we need a movement. A focused, organized, sustained movement to solve our problems.”

The Minister’s Message Minister Farrakhan, belying his 82 years, opened his twohour speech with the greeting of peace and said that he was “honored beyond words” to be standing in front of the White House “built by slaves on the grounds paid for by the sweat and blood of our ancestors.”

That very mall, he taught, was once a slave center occupied by slave pens. He humbly thanked everyone for coming out and said he was pleased by the “great showing of unity among the aboriginal people of our planet.”

Commenting on the presence of so many young people, the Minister said that the ancestors were happy to see that a young generation has risen up to carry the torch for the struggle for justice. He singled out the Black Lives Matter movement and the youth from Ferguson, telling them that they “represent the future leadership.” Ferguson,” he said, “ignited it all..we are honored that you have come to represent our struggle and our demands.”

“We who are getting older…what good are we if we don’t prepare young people to carry the torch of liberation to the next step…So to the (all) young people…we honor you…we know who you are and we will not forsake our duty to you.”

However he cautioned: “There are some elders that are not worthy to pass on their legacy of cowardice. Our young people will not listen to those who are made in America, made by America and want to bow down in America to that which has given them hell. These young people are looking for fearless leadership…leadership which cannot be bought…There has got to be light at the end of that torch to get our people out of the clutches of a deceitful, satanic mind.”

“There can be no freedom, no justice, no quality without the will of some to sacrifice for the rest,” he continued. “What good is life if

we are not free? What good is it to continue in life under tyranny? There must come a time when we say ‘enough is enough!’ It must change! And I am willing to do all I can to bring about that change!”

Where Do We Begin?

Minister Farrakhan made a number of points that we need to adapt as we struggle to bring about change, paramount among them, in addition to love for self and our families is love and respect for the woman. * Farrakhan: “…Any man that would disrespect a female is an enemy of God because she is the greatest gift from God to man.” * “Black women should never call another woman a bitch – get that word out of your language – no female is after a dog. Every female is after God. Black men who like to use that word - pull it out of your tongue before your tongue is pulled out of your head!” * “Every woman is from the Creator. Her womb is the workshop of God. So when a man sees a woman he should bow in honor of her.” The Native Americans, he added, can teach us much in the respect of women. “Women are not to be played with…they are sacred…” *His own mother, he revealed, tried to abort him three times. He urged women to bring forth life. “It would be tragic if the next Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, or

Sitting Bull was aborted…If you are wise your child could be the answer to your prayers” and the world.

The Minster continued: *We have to get a grip on our fears. “Some ask, ‘why is Farrakhan so bold.’ It’s because I’m free from fear! ….Our problem is that there is too much fear among us and fear is what takes a man and makes him a punk!...Knowing God is what takes fear from your heart – a fearful people can’t be free.” *Leadership: “Any man in leadership who will not give his life for the flock that supports, feeds and clothes him is not worthy of being a leader… *Corruption: “….It grieves me to see how many of us are willing to sell out the future of our people…If you love God and loved your brother as yourself, nobody could give you enough money to make you betray yourself (or your) brothers and sisters.” *Politicians: We have to stop supporting and electing politicians who look like us but will not represent and serve our best interests. *Those vying for the upcoming presidential election he said are akin to whores showing their wares for some man to finance them.

He pointed to some $3.3 billion that was paid in the last few years by lobbyists to the White House. “That’s what makes this (election) a farce.” *In a special message to the LGBTQ community the Minister stated: “Those of us who are students of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad, we’re in love with our people. …

We don’t ask you what your sexual preference is, we love you. We’re not your judges, we want to work together to free our people completely. So to my LGBTQ family, you’ll never find us condemning you for what has become of us in our sojourn(in America).” *Minister Farrakhan encouraged everyone to read and consider the Nation of Islam program which has appeared on the back pages of Muhammad Speaks Newspaper since 1961. The Hon. Elijah Muhammad, he said always wanted the Muslim program to be brought before this House (White House). “I came to bring it myself.”

*“America has entered the time of Divine Judgment” he said referring to the Book of Revelation. “You’ve got to worry about the wrath of God that is to come… a great day for the righteous…a dreadful day for the wicked…” *He said that the Hon. Elijah Muhammad taught us 50-60 years ago about the four great judgments and what we could face: unusual amounts of rain and snow, earthquakes and hail.

These forces of nature, he said, would be used against America.

“America, you have a chance to stop the judgment or delay it, but it’s a vary narrow window of opportunity,” Farrakhan warned. *There are, and has been in the past, he stated, “Good White people who want to see you free but the politics of the situation won’t let that happen.” The responsibility therefore, lies upon us to take action. *Minister Farrakhan is calling for “10,000 fearless men” to train…we have got to stand between the guns, he said, knowing that when we go into our communities to clean it up, we will run into “rogue cops and wicked Black people” who profit from our misery. The war is on two fronts: to stop us from killing ourselves and to stop the killings by those sworn to protect and serve. *The Minister also called for “10,000 fearless women.” *He called for the creation of a Ministry of Defense and a Ministry of Justice and for all educators to help save our children from a miseducation system. *Black ministers “are the most important” he said; their involvement is key to helping facilitate this movement. *Minister Farrakhan urged his listeners to study Dr. Martin Luther King’s last two years of speeches and writings. “I’ve learned to love my brother,” said the Minister. “Dr. King was not a dreamer – he had awakened from his sleep and said ‘my dream has turned to a nightmare.’ Dr. King was a great revolutionary thinker like his brother Malcolm X.” We have to take Dr. King’s doctrine of love and non-violent towards White people and redirect it to Black people, said Farrakhan “to clear up the hate in the hearts of Black people!” We have to teach love for one another, teach love for our neighbors and forgive each other for acts of evil done under oppression.

Immediate Action: Putting the “Christ” Back Into Christmas African Americans take in between $1.1 and $1.3 trillion a year, noted Minister Farrakhan. Of that amount, $400 billion is spent during Christmas. “Dr. King wanted us to redistribute the pain” said Minister Farrakhan. “This Christmas we are kicking Santa to the curb” by withholding that $400 billion and “putting Christ back into a day which was supposed to honor Him,” making it a day for family, love and reconciling of differences.
