Chris lost his mother while still a toddler, and his aunt took him to live on her small farm near our Meru site, Kenya.

His aunt was struggling to afford her children’s education. She had to choose to keep little Chris at home. He spent those long days looking after goats and cattle.

But when Chris was sponsored through Chalice, he bolted from the barn to the classroom.

“Chalice stepped in and offered him [school fees] support which he desperately needed,” says Sr. Rosemary, Meru site director.

Not only did he love school, but he also discovered his calling to become a teacher himself.

Thanks to his sponsor, Chris just graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, specializing in Math and Physics. He is now teaching at a high school.

“The whole education journey of Chris... has been fully supported by the sponsorship program,” says Sr. Rosemary. “Now he is earning, able to take care of himself as well as supporting his family.”
