For most of us, the last year has been the most challenging and harrowing twelve months that we can remember. The world seems to have shifted on its axis, its moral compass faltering to the point that it has become almost unrecognisable. We look around us at friends, colleagues and others with a feeling of increasing distance and isolation, and a growing sense of fear and anxiety over the future.
At the same time, it is precisely at times like this when the darkness threatens to overwhelm us, that the glimmers of light shine brightest.
We have seen incredible acts of bravery, courage and resilience. Inspiring stories of friendship, comradery and kindness. We have become invigorated in our faith, our spirit, and our togetherness.
Chai is the embodiment of that spirit in the face of adversity, incandescent in the darkness. Chai’s partnership with the Royal Free NHS Trust and Marie Curie enables it to offer medical care within its flagship centre, rather than in hospital; so patients can get the physical treatments they need in a more warm and comfortable environment.
In the face of a diagnosis, Chai recognises that the psychological impact extends beyond just the patient. It provides therapies, counselling and support not just for the patient; but for their family, friends and loved ones.
The fight against cancer is relentless. In the UK, one person gets diagnosed with Cancer every 90 seconds. The number of patients that Chai now supports, has increased to nearly 4,500, along with their friends and family, across 11 centres all over the UK.
The demand for our services is now greater than ever, and we need your help to safeguard the future of Chai, in the face of even greater demand.
A very special thank you to all of our sponsors for their incredible generosity. Please take special note of the brochure sponsors and advertisers, and make a point of showing them your support.
On behalf of Chai, the patients and their families - thank you for turning your FoCus to Chai.

Driven by an insatiable passion for exceptional wine and whisky.
Our vision was to create an experience that would captivate not only our loved ones and friends but also whisky enthusiasts around the globe. Venturing across the scenic landscapes of Scotland, we meticulously handpicked rare, aged casks from remote distilleries, ensuring that each one held a distinctive tale waiting to be savoured.
At DS Tayman, our commitment to excellence is unwavering. As an independent bottler renowned for our craftsmanship, we meticulously select each cask based on its unique appearance, aroma, and flavour, ensuring that every dram tells a remarkable story. What sets us apart is our pioneering spirit—being among the first in the world to introduce a kosher wine finish to our whiskies, certified by three esteemed kosher authorities.
Initially inspired by a desire to cater to the discerning tastes of the Jewish community, our whisky’s exceptional quality and character transcended boundaries, captivating whisky enthusiasts in 19 diverse markets worldwide. Today, our reach knows no bounds as we proudly share our passion for whisky with connoisseurs across the globe.
Step into the world of DS Tayman, where tradition meets innovation, and each sip unlocks a symphony of flavours that leave an indelible mark on your palate. Join us on this extraordinary journey as we continue to redefine what it means to indulge in the art of fine whisky.

‘In the music therapy group, I can sort out the mess in my head, when words alone simply don’t work.’ - Beverley
'The art workshop is wonderful – a place where I can release the trauma of my poor diagnosis and express it through art. I eagerly anticipate every class and my spirit lightens knowing everyone there sees me as Susan, not "Susan with cancer".' - Susan
‘I look forward to my weekly session at Chai and gear my schedule around it. Besides hospital visits or illness, my time at Chai is non-negotiable!’ - *David
'My fitness suffered greatly after my illness and treatment. The physios worked with me to reverse this, propelling me on a new trajectory I couldn't have imagined. My confidence is restored!' - Sruli
From Hendon to Glasgow, Gibraltar to Hong Kong, in person or on Zoom, one hour at Chai can transform feelings, ease pain and bring joy. But don’t just take our word for it…
'I wanted to believe my husband and I didn't need help. How wrong I was! Chai is everything we need as a family, from therapies to financial and disability advice, to activities that reduce our isolation.' - Julie
‘Chai is the place I go to be truly "held". I don't have to be a mum, or a wife… I can just be taken care of for a change. Thank you!’ - *Amanda
'I love seeing Phil as he gives me time to concentrate on me. I sigh with relief as I express myself by writing songs and the time goes so quickly. This is a song I wrote with Phil.'
Taking me time, sharing stories
Making music, having fun
It’s a blast but it’s gone too fast. Being silly helps me out
Talk or joke or scream and shout
Then you see I can just be me, me, me, me, me
It’s a time to express my feelings
Be creative, write a song. That’s my jam, that’s my jam, that’s my jam.
- Josh, aged 7
'I cannot begin to tell you what a difference Chai made to Nathalie’s life. She so enjoyed coming to the jewellery and art classes, and her counselling sessions. Just being in the calm, comforting building gave Nathalie normality and social interaction at a time when all the "normal" aspects of her life were slipping from her grasp.’ - Steven on behalf of Nathalie z’l
'I'm always excited to see Phil because I might learn something new. I feel happy when we play the musical instruments games – and when I beat the drums! But best of all at Chai are the biscuits!' - Joey, aged 7
‘Every time I step foot into Chai, I feel the tension in my shoulders disappear. Ahead is 60 minutes of relief from the pain, anxiety and stress that cancer brings to daily life. From the client service managers to the counsellors to the MLD [manual lymphatic drainage] practitioners, there is compassion and understanding. I couldn’t wish for a more well-rounded support system!’ - Alex
'I arrive in pain at the jewellery group but I soon forget all my aches. Creating something beautiful in such lovely company makes my week so much better.' - Sheila
‘The bereavement group made me realise I could laugh again.’ Joy
'There are six of us strong-minded women in our music workshop, all at different points of our cancer journeys. The music therapist has such empathy and warmth for each of us. Being happy in the moment is transformative and makes us feel very special.' - Francesca
