CHABAD ON FULTON JEWISH STUDENT CENTER SERVING VASSAR, MARIST AND CIA FALL 2017 IN REVIEW

Connecting Y o u...

Digging Deep to Build Up What do our students need? College is very challenging with dangerous pitfalls. There are high levels of stress and anxiety. There are spikes in depression rates in students due to social media. Dalia and I thank you for giving Jewish students a welcoming home where they can navigate life and discover their identity. This semester has been surprisingly exciting with an influx of new faces and deeper student involvement. Yet, it has also been a tiring semester. We have had to dig deep for the emotional energy and time to be there for all of our students. It isn’t easy to build a supportive Jewish home away from home and it involves a lot of moving parts. There are the practical aspects of paying utility bills, keeping the fridge stocked and paying salaries. Then there is the deeper aspect of making a house feel like a warm, comforting home.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME Our doors are open 24/7 for the support and wamrth only a home can provide.

Thanks to you, the students have had a home away from home that is a healthy balance of guidance, emotional support, inspiration, and empowerment. Providing students the opportunity to advance themselves Jewishly and professionally.

The last two weeks of the semester, Dalia and I didn’t go to sleep without leaving a student studying in our living room. The last two weeks of the semester, Dalia and I didn’t go to sleep without leaving a student studying in our living room. Nor did a day go by that you didn’t share with them inspiration and the wisdom to help them see beyond the stress and anxiety of finals. This past semester, your support has been a rock of strength and a light of inspiration for the students! Thank you! We’re already looking forward to the next semester!

IT’S TWO YEARS LATER, JULIANNE IS STILL BENEFITTING FROM YOUR SUPPORT! Growing up in an area with a minimal Jewish community, I always struggled to connect with my Judaism and spirituality. In 2014, I was approached by the Rabbi Daniel and Dalia during my first week of school at a Jewish food festival in Poughkeepsie. I was a little apprehensive at first, but I am beyond glad that I was able to take the first step and allow myself to become a part of the Jewish community that they have created for the students.

Thank you so much for giving me a welcoming home with a special family that is there for me no matter what! During my first and second year at the Culinary Institute, Rabbi Daniel and Dalia welcomed me with open arms and helped me reconnect with my Judaism in so many different ways.

During my second year at the CIA, my father unexpectedly passed away. The Sanoffs were there for me from the minute I found out about his passing and provided me with a comforting familial atmosphere to grieve while I was so far away from my family in Florida. Now, over a year and a half later, the Sanoffs’ still take the time out of their extremely busy schedule to call, text, or email me to check up on me and I know that they will always be an important part of my life. I now attend Torah studies as much as I can and I truly believe that being a part of Chabad has helped me discover my Jewish identity. Looking back and thinking now, I know that the Sanoffs will always be there for me no matter where I live and what I’m doing.
