We have never been quite so excited to welcome a new class and say hi again to our old friends. We are coming back post Covid with a whole new energy; expect fabulous events, huge Shabbat and holiday celebrations, thought provoking speakers, meaningful social service opportunities, an extensive panorama of class offerings, and great fun, of course!

THE SHALOM STAIMAN BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY ERUV The Shalom Staiman Eruv encircles the Binghamton University campus, off campus housing, the Marriott Residence Hotel and adjacent areas in Vestal.

In cooperation with Binghamton University, the town of Vestal and NYSEG, the Eruv utilizes existing utility poles. Eruv has 7 sections and is checked every week, during the semester by student volunteers.

An Eruv needs to be inspected weekly to make sure it is fully operational. Sections of an Eruv can be impacted by the elements and may need to be reconstructed.

Did you know? Chabad Downtown started off on the West Side of Binghamton in 2005 in a residential home.

As a result of the student housing development growth in Downtown proper, Chabad Downtown relocated to Downtown Binghamton in 2017 where it now boasts a beautiful center hosting 100 students on Shabbats!

In January 1985, Rabbi and Rivky hosted the first cohort of Bing students around their dining room table in the Meadows for Friday night dinner! Rabbi Levi was 6 months old!

REMEMBERING 9/11 FRIDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 10 With Col. Jacob Goldstein, senior chaplain at “Ground Zero”.

SHABBAT, SEPTEMBER 11 “Faith and courage under fire, up close and personal with Goldstein, the longest serving Jewish Chaplain in the US Military.

Beginning his military career in March 1977 Chaplain Goldstein’s service over the course of 38 years of active duty includes Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, Operation Desert Storm in Iraq), and the JTF Patriot Defender Task Force in Israel. He also served in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait, and at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was Joint Task Force Katrina Staff Chaplain and was Senior Chaplain at “Ground Zero” for all military branches assigned to the World Trade Center. He serves as a Chaplain for the United States Secret Service and is the recipient of numerous medals and awards, and retired with honors in April of 2015.

MAASIM TOVIM FOUNDATION

Join Chabad’s newly expanded Mitzvah Corp and experience the joy of bringing cheer and assistance to others. Each week volunteers will visit Jewish patients in area hospitals, residents in adult care facilities and shut-ins. Volunteers will also make special pre-holiday visitations.

On average, 250 eggs, 80 lbs of flour and 25 lbs of sugar are used in the Chabad kitchen between Thursday and Friday each week.

COOKING IS FUN!

Come on over and help cook for Shabbat and holidays, prepare salads and more for a few hundred hungry BU students (no prior kitchen experience necessary) and meet some really cool and committed people.
