MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL CELEBRATES DIVERSITY The annual Multicultural Festival showcased the strength of community and belonging at Gibbons. More than 100 students representing over 40 countries participated, offering a unique opportunity for cultural exchange through student-led booths, traditional dress, music, and cuisine.

As I reflect on the past year, I am filled with profound gratitude for the many blessings our community has received. Our Annual Report tells a story not only of numbers and achievements, but of faith, resilience, and shared commitment to our mission of forming men and women of faith, service, and leadership.

This year, we welcomed a vibrant student body of more than 1,600 students, each bringing unique gifts to our community. With the guidance of dedicated faculty and staff, our students have continued to grow academically, spiritually, and socially. Their accomplishments—in the classroom, on the stage, in athletic arenas, and in service to others—are a testament to the spirit of Gibbons.

Our mission is made possible through the extraordinary generosity of parents, alumni, and friends. Because of your support, we can open doors through tuition assistance, invest in our mission, and create opportunities for innovation.

SPIRITUAL LIFE MARY’S GROTTO DEDICATION Our community came together to celebrate the dedication of Mary’s Grotto with a special outdoor Mass. Students, families, and educators gathered to honor the Blessed Mother, bringing flowers to lay at her feet in a gesture of devotion.

During the ceremony, Dean Monroe, assistant head of school for mission, offered words of gratitude to the generous families who made the project possible. This newly dedicated space provides a quiet place for prayer, reflection, and connection to our Catholic faith.

Led by Chaplain Fr. Luke Rawicki, the ceremony offered a moving time of prayer, reflection, and connection.

The courtyard, already a cherished space of remembrance, was further enriched by the dedication of a tree in memory of Patrick Newman ’24.

ALL-PARENT PRAYER BREAKFAST Our first All-Parent Prayer Breakfast welcomed more than 100 parents for a joyful morning filled with prayer, fellowship, and spiritual renewal.

ACADEMICS FOUR STUDENTS ACCEPTED TO PRESTIGIOUS GOVERNOR’S SCHOOL Four students were accepted into Governor’s School, a highly selective summer program for gifted and talented students from across the state.

ATHLETICS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Athletics celebrated a landmark year with 10 varsity teams capturing state championships across a wide range of sports. From undefeated seasons to historic firsts, studentathletes demonstrated sportsmanship and teamwork.

Championship Teams • Cheerleading: Third straight state title.

• Women’s Cross Country: Back-to-back titles with four runners in the top 12.

• Field Hockey: Ranked No. 26 nationally, secured second straight title.

WELLS FARGO CUP Gibbons earned the 2024–25 Wells Fargo Cup for the 4A classification, awarded to the top overall high school athletic program in North Carolina based on postseason finishes across all sports. This marks the school’s 18th Wells Fargo Cup— the most in state history.

ATHLETES OF THE YEAR During a special ceremony, Gibbons honored two exceptional seniors for their athletic accomplishments and leadership: • Hannah Rae Shaffer ’25: Female Athlete of the Year (Cross Country/Track & Field) • Liam Hickey ’25: Male Athlete of the Year (Wrestling)

• Women’s Indoor Track & Field: Snapped Cuthbertson High School’s seven-year streak to win the 4A title.

• Men’s Lacrosse: Seventh state championship after a 24–2 season.

• Women’s Lacrosse: Fourth straight 4A crown, eighth in nine years.

• Women’s Outdoor Track & Field: Completed a Triple Crown season with state titles in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field.

• Men’s Swimming: First 4A championship, seventh overall in school history.

• Dual-Team Wrestling: First NCHSAA 4A Dual Team title.

• Volleyball: Undefeated 22–0 season.

• Men’s Lacrosse milestones • Justin Conly ’25: Broke the school record for career assists (235), surpassing Gannon Morrison ’14 • Zach Kerner ’25: Broke the school record for career goals (173) • Liam Hickey ’25: Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award recipient from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, recognizing achievement in wrestling, academics, and community service.

• All-American relay team: 4x800m relay: Kaitlyn Estep ’28, Addy Mitchell ’25, Hannah Rae Shaffer ’25, and Maggie Whitham ’26 finished second nationally at New Balance Indoor Nationals in Boston.

37 STUDENT-ATHLETES COMMIT TO COLLEGE TEAMS Thirty-seven student-athletes committed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level, representing a wide range of sports and institutions across the country.

COACH HONORS • Nick Mangum ’99 was inducted into the North Carolina Track & Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame. Mangum was also named North Carolina Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

• Andrew Tuttle was named Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year by HighSchoolOT. 5

ROBOTICS ROBOTICS PATENT WALL GETS A NEW LOOK The Robotics program’s Patent Wall received an eyecatching upgrade in April. With sleek new branding and banners showcasing the team’s impressive string of state championship victories, the display now reflects the innovation and competitive spirit that define the club.

Adding to the excitement, the program celebrated its eighth U.S. patent last year—another milestone in its growing legacy of creativity and engineering excellence.

ROBOTICS TEAMS CELEBRATE AWARD-WINNING SEASON Team 2901 1st place – Connect Award

STUDENTS REPRESENT 25% OF HONORS BAND Band and percussion students made up 25% of the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools (NCAIS) Honor Band and Percussion Ensemble.

ALL-STATE ORCHESTRA HONORS Two Gibbons violinists earned top recognition. Anna Marie Bal ’25 and Hannah Tran ’25 were selected from a field of more than 400 musicians statewide.

AP ART STUDENTS EARN REGIONAL AWARDS Nine AP Art students were recognized in the Regional Scholastic Art Awards, receiving honors for 20 individual works and two portfolios.

OUTREACH WEEKLY OUTREACH • Tuesdays: Sophomores serve at Catholic Parish Outreach or Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC. • Wednesdays: Freshmen support Beginning and Beyond Child Development Center.

CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE The Toy Drive provided Christmas gifts to 96 children from the Beginning and Beyond Day Child Development Center. Volunteers assembled individualized bags filled with toys, clothing, and essential items to meet each child’s needs. Before delivery, the gifts were blessed by Fr. Luke in the Chapel.

• Fridays: Seniors partner with Habitat for Humanity on affordable housing projects.

JUNIOR ADVISORY OUTREACH As part of their Junior Advisory experience, the Class of 2027 designed and carried out a variety of service initiatives aimed at addressing community needs.

Each advisory group selected a social issue, identified a target population, and developed a project plan to make a meaningful impact. Students served more than a dozen community organizations, putting their faith into action.

Community partners • 1870 Farm • Boys and Girls Club • Corral Riding Academy • Habitat ReStore • Marbles Kids Museum • Miracle League • Second Chance Pet Adoptions • Special Olympics DRESS DOWN DAY FOR HUNGER The Gibbons community, through Franciscan Youth International’s annual Dress Down Day for Hunger, donated 5,704 pounds of food to Catholic Parish Outreach— surpassing 5,000 pounds for the second year in a row to support local families during the holiday season.

ST. FRANCIS INN SERVICE TRIP Eight students and three educators began their Midwinter break with a service trip to St. Francis Inn, a soup kitchen in Philadelphia that welcomes more than 150 guests each day with hot meals and hospitality.

Run by Franciscan friars alongside lay staff, the Inn provides not only nourishment but also community, with a mission rooted in affirming the dignity of every guest who comes through its doors.

Each morning, the group began with Mass in the chapel located directly above the dining room. Afterwards, they took on tasks such as sorting baked goods, chopping vegetables, and setting tables in preparation for the lunch meal.

LEARNING SUPPORT STUDENT IMPACT • 186 students served in Learning Support • 49 students enrolled in Curriculum Assistance TUTORING SUPPORT • Tutors cover over 60 classes across English Language Arts, Math, Science, Spanish, ASL, Theology/History, and Executive Function Skills.

• 1,200+ tutoring sessions, saving families an estimated $2 million through in-house services.

LEARNING SUPPORT PLANS Learning Support Plans have evolved from simple accommodations (such as extended time, seating adjustments, and standardized test applications) to Personalized Learning & Health Plans, which include goals, progress tracking, and eligibility criteria.

YOUNG ALUMNI SUPPORT Now serving as Chair of Young Alumni Leadership, Norris is ADAM NORRIS ’10 When Adam Norris ’10 reflects on his time at Gibbons, gratitude rises to the surface. It’s that gratitude—and a hope for future generations—that inspired him to give back.

“I was moved to make a gift when I thought about future generations of Gibbons kids,” Norris said. “Our support affords students today, and into the future, the chance for the same—if not better—experience than I had at Gibbons.”

Today, what excites Norris most about his alma mater is its spirit of growth.

“There always seems to be a new club, class, or support resource available to students that wasn’t there before,” he said. “The school continues to grow and diversify its offerings, which means there is always something exciting 16

inspired by the momentum of his peers.

“It still amazes me that we’ve graduated more alumni in the past 15 years than in the first 100 years of the school. We’ve seen that boom reflected in young alumni who are eager to participate and give back to their alma mater, which gave so much to them.”

Norris looks ahead with optimism. He hopes to see more young alumni join the community, deepen connections, and carry forward the Gibbons spirit.

“Giving is a big part of what we do here, but bringing back a wide array of alumni who share the common bond as Gibbons kids really makes this an exciting time to be a young alum.”

MATCHING GIFT THE BRANIN FAMILY For Cardinal Gibbons parents Kevin Branin and Nicole Narcisco-Branin, giving back is about more than generosity—it’s about living out their values.

“Our family gives charitably—both through financial contributions and by volunteering our time—because we appreciate the opportunity to support our community and to further causes that we care about,” the couple said. “We believe in compassion, faith, and the importance of lifting others up, and giving allows us to live those values in a tangible way.”

When Nicole learned that her employer, IBM, offered a charitable matching gift program, she saw an opportunity to amplify the family’s impact.

“While we have known about the program for many years, we assumed that matching for education was limited to colleges and universities. This was a poor assumption, they said. “Our family now proudly gives to Cardinal Gibbons with a match from IBM.” For the Branins, the greatest reward is knowing their gift— multiplied through IBM’s match—is shaping students’ futures.

“Although we have only been part of the Gibbons community

PLANNED GIVING CLAUDIA GERAGHTY GRAHAM ’70 For Claudia Geraghty Graham ’70, faith and gratitude have always guided her path. After retiring with her husband, Peter, to Black Mountain, Claudia felt called to continue serving God and her community. She now manages the parish office at St. Margaret Mary and assists Fr. John Allen with parish growth, including a capital campaign for church expansion.

When planning their estate, Claudia and Peter prioritized their Catholic faith.

“We realized that everything we have is a gift from God, and when we die, we want these gifts to do HIS work in the Catholic church,” she said.

Claudia’s deep appreciation for her own Catholic education at Cardinal Gibbons—where she fondly remembers spirited basketball games in Fr. Price Gym, the guidance of the Sisters of Notre Dame, and a strong sense of family—led her to include Gibbons in her estate plans.

Her hope for the future of Gibbons is simple yet powerful: “I hope Gibbons continues to teach the essentials of high school life and, most importantly, continues to spread the Catholic faith,” she said. “It is the cornerstone of a Gibbons education, and I am grateful to support that with a planned gift.”

Through her generosity, Claudia ensures that the gift of Catholic education will continue to flourish for generations to come.

CRUSADER CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT The annual Crusader Classic Golf Tournament brought together over 130 golfers and 27 sponsors, raising nearly $63,000 in support of our mission. This community-driven event continues to be a powerful example of how shared commitment to Catholic education can directly benefit our students and their families.

GIBBONS GALA This year’s Gibbons Gala drew 460 attendees and raised $660,500 in support of campus parking upgrades. Backed by the efforts of more than 75 volunteers, event proceeds directly support the construction of two new parking lots, adding nearly 200 additional on-campus parking spaces.

The expanded lots will improve campus security with new lighting and surveillance systems, provide on-campus parking for all upperclassmen, and increase availability during school-wide events. The project marks a significant step forward in enhancing the overall student and visitor experience at Gibbons.
