Democratic Statewides Win Big Delaware Statewide Democratic incumbents had a very strong performance easily defeating challengers in the primary and general election. Delaware’s federal delegation remains unchanged; led by Sen. Chris Coons who won the general with 64% of the vote, Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester who was not up this cycle, and lone Congresswoman Sarah McBride who won the general with 64% of the vote. Attorney General Kathy Jennings was elected to her third term with 64% of the vote. State Auditor Lydia York was elected to her second term and new candidate Ted Lauzen was elected Delaware’s Treasurer. All statewide offices have been held by Democrats in Delaware since 2018. Delaware General Assembly- House Democrats Pick Up 3 Seats Delaware Democrats picked up 3 seats in the state House (RD 4, RD 9, RD 34) and held their supermajority of 15 seats in the state Senate. This means a new super majority in the House with 30 members, over the two-thirds threshold to pass constitutional amendments without bi-partisan support. The Delaware primaries held on September 15 were notable with five incumbent Democratic lawmakers losing in primary elections to new progressive candidates. Retirements contributed to a significant number of open seats. There will be 15 new members in the General Assembly, nearly a quarter of the body.
