COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN INDIANA

Nicole Atkins CEO, Unique Management Services, Inc. Lives: Jeffersonville, IN High School: Jeffersonville High School (Jeffersonville, IN) College: Indiana University Southeast

Talk about your family... “I am married to Darryl, and we have one son, Darius. He is 20 years old and a college student at Purdue - Fort Wayne. He is a mechanical engineering major, with a minor in music. He also runs track and field.”

What do you like to do when you’re not working? “I love gardening. I also enjoy attending sporting events my son participates in.”

What is left to accomplish on your Bucket List? “I want to see my son graduate from college. And one day, I’d like to become a grandparent.”

Where is your favorite Southern Indiana hangout spot? “I don’t really hang out anywhere. Probably my home!”

How would you spend your ideal vacation? “I would love to be relaxing on a beach in Hawaii.”

Why do you support CFSI? “I believe in helping people and organizations prosper. Without CFSI, there would be several nonprofits unable to have the impact they do. Helping people requires capital, and CFSI helps donors that need a little extra hand.”

If you had unlimited capacity to fund one project for a cause you believe in, what would it be? “I would help the homeless community.”

What has been the most memorable part of your time (so far) on the CFSI board of directors? “Since I’m still new at this point, I would have to say getting the opportunity to meet so many great people.”

Rich Boling Vice President of Corporate Advancement, Redwire Space Lives: Floyds Knobs, IN High School: New Albany High School (New Albany, IN) College: Indiana University Southeast

Talk about your family...

Why do you support CFSI?

“I am married to my wife, Dawn, and we share two children together. Our son, Alex, is 32 and our daughter, Abigail, is 29.”

“Good things can happen in a community when you join with others in service. A single reed can be broke, but many bound together can be sailed across an ocean. The work of CFSI provides our neighbors with their best opportunity to create a lasting legacy that can continue to positively impact their community for generations.”

What do you like to do when you’re not working? “I like to travel with my family, as well as do a little auto maintenance.”

What is left to accomplish on your Bucket List? “I want to fly to space.”

Where is your favorite Southern Indiana hangout spot? “I’m a homebody, so being at home with my family is my favorite place to be. Outside of home, people-watching under the dome at the West Baden Springs Hotel used to be a regular activity for us when we owned our cabin at Patoka Lake.”

How would you spend your ideal vacation? “I would love any foreign travel with my wife and kids.”

What has been the most memorable part of your time (so far) on the CFSI board of directors? “Reading the proposals for funding submitted by area organizations has really impressed upon me the goodness and eagerness of so many in our community. Quoting his mother, Fred Rogers said, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people helping.’ Serving has helped me understand that there are far more helpers around me than I knew. Helping the helpers, and learning the names of the often unheralded leaders who represent the best qualities of our community’s character, has been memorable and personally rewarding.”

Education is the great multiplier. When you give someone the tools to build a career, you’re not just changing their life — you’re changing their family’s trajectory for generations.

Why do you support CFSI? “I support CFSI because it serves as one of the most powerful and trusted connectors in our region, bridging individuals, families, and businesses with the causes that matter most to our community. What sets CFSI apart for me is its permanence and its breadth. As a seventh-generation family in southern Indiana, I think a lot about legacy and long-term impact — and CFSI is built around exactly that. Their model isn’t just about moving dollars today; it’s about stewarding charitable intent so that generosity compounds for generations. Whether it’s a family establishing a fund, a nonprofit seeking a grant, or a business looking for a meaningful giving strategy, CFSI creates the infrastructure that makes all of that possible in one trusted place. That’s rare, and it’s invaluable to our community.”

I work with a great team and a fabulous board of directors that guide what we do. This is absolutely hands down my favorite job of all-time.”

What do you like to do when you’re not working? “Read, primarily mysteries. I also enjoy boating and hiking.”

What is left to accomplish on your Bucket List? “Iceland and riding in a dogsled in Alaska even if it’s on tires in the grass in the summer, I don’t care! I just want to do it.”

Where is your favorite Southern Indiana hangout spot? “Probably my house or Savannah’s house.”

If you had unlimited capacity to fund one project for a cause you believe in, what would it be? “I'd make sure every child has a safe place to live, enough to eat, a loving family, a big group of friends, and all the tools they need to be successful in life. Oh, and world peace while we're at it! ;)”

What has been the most memorable part of your time (so far) at CFSI? “I’d say creating the Floyd County Fund and almost anything to do with helping our donors set up their own unique charitable funds to accomplish their charitable goals.”

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN INDIANA

Kathy Watkins Director of Gift Planning, Community Foundation of Southern Indiana Lives: La Grange, KY High School: Sacred Heart Academy College: B.S. University of KY; M.S. The George Washington University; J.D. University of Louisville

Talk about your family... “I am married to my husband, Matt.”

What do you like to do when you’re not working? “I love to cook (my cookbook collection is a bit embarrassing and is still growing). I love to be outdoors – whether getting out for a good long walk or hike, or gardening at home or as a volunteer. I enjoy traveling, but I also really enjoy spending time just hanging out not doing much of anything with family and friends.”

What is left to accomplish on your Bucket List? There are so many places I would still like to visit: Egypt, Morocco, and Japan are really high on my list. I would like to get a cidery going if we can get a decent crop of apples and get all of that sorted. I would like to spend more time as a volunteer working with kids on reading and as part of the CASA network. I would like to contribute to efforts to improve access to healthy locally produced food, both in schools and elsewhere. There is more, but I'll stop there.”

Where is your favorite Southern Indiana hangout spot? “My husband and I used to really love New Albanian and Pints and Union in New Albany. Both Jeffersonville and New Albany have such beautiful historic downtowns, and it has been great to see all of the preservation efforts and investments in spaces that draw people in on the weekends. I have also been going to Huber's Orchard since I was a little girl (I have to get my winesaps every fall), so I can't leave Huber's off of the list!”

Why do you support CFSI? “The good work that is done on the part of the board, staff, supporters, and partners such as the IU AREC every day to improve lives.”

If you had unlimited capacity to fund one project for a cause you believe in, what would it be? “I would say it’d likely be food insecurity and access. For me, this is fundamental everyone should have enough food to nourish themselves and their families.”
