The social task that the Educational Centre owns is very complex and multifunctional to fulfill it. We, the professionals of the Centre, make an effort year after year convinced to help the families and the students who trust us as well as to help the allied businesses, public institutions, and the Church in Biscay. Being a solid reference in terms of education in secondary education and high school as well as the leadership in the different levels of vocational training is the ambitious goal that makes us being aware of the technical advances and new technologies, improving the training rooms and qualifications of the professionals who teach here every day. It is really exciting that the businesses of the region see us as a point of reference for the recurrent training of their workers and as the source of their new ones. This is what really pushes us to improve every day the quality of our training and the complementary services in terms of work orientation and employment. Innovation projects Blending Innovation for Automotive Education and Training “BIFA” The main goal of this project is improving the educative material we have in the automotive training course in order to be updated taking the new technological advances and the demands of qualification in the sector by the blending of the educational resources we own, the innovative technologies and the final products made among the partners of this project. The core of this material is the building-kit of a buggy. The most important characteristics of this unit are the four fuel cells in additional and replaceable packages (plug-in, plug out) together with central propulsion system of the buggy (diesel, electricity, or petrol fed). Every of these packages containing a different source of energy (electricity, GTL, hydrogen, gas) in a way that they show every kind of hybrid combination available nowadays in the industry. The plug and play system make the addition of the future technologies possible. The project is developed by two educational Centres (Somorrostro and Meka) Teknika, the Dutch initiative MAC (EU considers it to be the best training which joins work and education), Automotive Intelligence Centre (AIC) the foundation CIE R & D & R, Automotive division in the national department from Germany for the aeronautics and the space, and a college from Germany Carl-Benz Schule.

Regional economic recovery project The creation of employment in the area of influence of the College is one of our main objectives. The participation during this year 2013 has been permanent both in the “Zona Minera” as well as in the “Enkarterri “region. In both of them, we have collaborated with the local governments, development agencies and local businesses to design common strategies and share them to get better conditions for the creation of new business projects and greater employment opportunities. Namely, in the “Enkarterri” some special initiatives have created twelve jobs because of the implementation of new businesses.
Moreover, three new projects related with the
culture and customs of the region have been launched: • The consumption of local products or “Localvoro” with an agreement between the producer and the local consumer that positions the region in the area of restoration.

Innovational project applied to the SMEs (ASMAOLA+) The Somorrostro Educational Centre is member of the network for the innovation called ASMAOLA, formed by 5 educational centres of reference in Euskadi supported by the Basque Government with the Education and Competiveness Department. The aim of the educational centre and the Government is to the establishment cooperation with the SMEs to improve the competiveness of the businesses sharing our technical and human resources to look for tailor-made solutions. The ASMAOLA network offers the technical support shared among the various educational centre and expert and qualified

The project of scholarships to support financially the study One of the aims of the Centre is to give the same opportunities to all the people who want to study, to help as far as possible to get the formation and even more if they have financial problems. In that respect the Centre has collaborated with the city councils and businesses from the “Zona Minera” to support financially the students so that they can continue with their studies. In the year 2013, more than 100 families have obtained a scholarship to study a degree with all the costs included.

Exam to enter a technical degree All the studies made by public organizations and businesses identify as a main factor in competiveness, a bigger presence in the job market of qualified technical degree holder because the business in the XXI century is going to demand this position more and more. Because of this, in the Centre the students with a foundation degree have been encouraged to continue with their studies and to get a technical degree by means of an exam.
A great example of this is the Association of Businesses Enkarterri Group, a group of more than 60 businesses from the Enkarterri region whose main goal is to improve the competiveness and to serve as an scenario of opportunities to their associates. The Centre launched the creation of it and plays an active role as the member of the board of directors to collaborate more closely with the development of it.
Association of educational centres of vocational training “FPempresa” The past years the Centre collaborated in a project together with another 88 educational Centres of other Autonomous Communities. After the end of it the relationship among the centres continued and with that aim the association was born with any regulated centre no matter the legal nature of it. In the year 2013 the first assembly of the association took place and the board of directors was chosen for its management. During the assembly, the representatives of the rest of the centres and also Somorrostro Educational Centre are there to help to develop projects and encourage as far as possible the vocational training aimed at the businesses and the job market. Currently more than 120 public and private centres form the association located in Madrid.

The awards ceremony was headed by the “Lehendakari”, Head of the Basque Autonomous Government, Iñigo Urkullu and the President of the Regional Council of Biscay, Jose Luis Bilbao who was the one who gave the award and the certificate to Antonio Barrenechea, Managing Director of Tamoin. The jury which annually gives the award, has wanted to reward the great effort of Tamoin in the region, “Margen izquierda” and in Biscay. Although it is located in Erandio, Tamoin bet for the continuous creation of job and their internationalization has been very important for the jury to see Tamoin as the winner of this award.

The Summer Courses Muskiz FP took place from 17th of June to and 12th of July and reached their 4th edition. The acts of this year were made by six courses which have a nexus of union: The Energy. All the courses take place in the Somorrostro Educational Centre, organizer, together with the town government of Muskiz and
the organization Forlan (Employment Promotion Organization in Somorrostro). Muskiz FP is an academic, cultural, social, caring, innovative, environmental, business and employment initiative which creating synergies in the region wants to help to share and introduce an innovative, caring, respectful and sustainable culture, having Muskiz as a reference point.

People and moral values “Gazte taldeak” are the Christian Groups in the Centre formed to spend their spare time. 120 students from the first course of compulsory secondary education to the second course of high school, together with 14 volunteer teachers showed once again that another use of our spare time is possible. We can enjoy weekend trips surrounded by nature, get together and think over the World and how to build a fair new one.
Bidezko Merkataritza (a fair trade) The Somorrostro Educational Centre wants to show another kind of markets trade forms and values to the educational community. By selling some products from “Fair trade” initiative our students bet for a fairer world showing a special awareness and sensibility.
“Disdirak” “Sparkles” of Sensibility are the chats that we organize with a social mood during the course. Some of them go beyond. It is the case of “ Bidesari”, which it´s an organization that was created by penitentiary pastoral care and works for the reintegration of prisoners. This organization touched a nerve of every student who took part In the project “ Metiendo el pie”. A football match in the prison of Basauri is a good manner to be aware of the reality in prison, unknown and full of prejudices.
Dantzatuz: social skills by means of dancing The group work, expressivity, cooperation, empathy, creativity, corporate… are human skills that sometimes are difficult to work in class. It´s a matter of imagination… why don´t we work them by doing something we enjoy? Maybe something different? why not at the school? So we took the challenge and we formed a group of dance in the second course of vocational training. Plumbers and hairdressers have gone through a different kind of educational process in group. Full of self-knowing, rhythm, findings, patience, advances, help, surprises…

People and values Projects of learning and services In the year 2013 many different projects of learning and services have been launched with our students´ help in the subject of religion for students of compulsory education, high school and vocational training. Learning and caring service is a methodology which involves service and help to the community by means of learning of knowledge, values and skills. It’s an educational project which combines learning and service to community at the same time. The members are concerned with a particular social problem and try to improve and solve them. Among the different projects in 2012/2013 we can outline the following ones:
RARE DISEASES A group formed by fourteen students of the first course of high school (1st BTC-A) has seen the tough reality in cases of children who suffer from food intolerance. Since the cases are very few, the authorities do not invest in investigation. This group let us show the affected ones and their families our solidarity in lectures of sensitivity, our collection of lids and the sale of bracelets. For this project we had the organization Garmitxa. LEARNING CENTRE Six students of the first course of high school 1st BHCS-B) have taken the case of children who are at risk of social exclusion to know what is done to solve their problem and what can be done. They were helped by the organization Tximeleta. They also published a blog where they write their experience and they suggest that the people from compulsory education collect school supplies to give it to the volunteers of this project.
Other projects have tried to make the rest of the school community aware of problems such as the coastal pollution, everyday waste, the fair-trade, the work of “REZIKLETA”, The consequences of the high voltage lines, the importance of the project “Agenda 21”… In the year 13/14 we have started 22 new projects. Among them we can outline: FOOD BANK, COMMUNITY KITCHEN, DOWN SYNDROME, RARE DISEASES (GARMITXA), LEARNING CENTRE, CHILDREN´S SHELTER, VILLAGE IMPROVEMENT, BLOOD DONORS, MEDULLA DONORS, AND AN ANIMAL IS NOT A GIFT, BALANCED DIET AND THE RISK OF THE INTERNET.
Community kitchen A group of students from high school (1ºBTC-B) has studied the reality of people without financial resources in our region and how to help them. Their study has included visiting a community kitchen and knowing how it works to make the school community aware of the importance of the volunteers in our society. After their work they have helped directly in the Community kitchen.

Educative projects Lehen Aukera 47 students have started working during this year 13/14 in some businesses in the region thanks to the program of the Basque government called “Lehen Aukera”. This project is only based in an internship for people who have just finished a title in vocational training given by the Basque Government. This scholarship is for the people who have just finished (2012/2013) registered in the Basque Country, and consists in 3 months of full time work with a salary of 500€ sponsored by the Basque Government.
The” HEZIBI” program (dual vocational training) In the year 12/13 the HEZIBI program work-linked vocational training began in the Basque Country and the students were able to continue with their studies and work in a business at the same time. It was the first and we had 5 students. It was a success and in the year 13-14 there have been 7 students in this advantageous project.
European students interchange program In 2013, 15 students from the first course of high school took part in an international interchange program that we made for the first time. They had the opportunity to live with Scandinavian students from Ange, a little village from Sweden, where they shared different experiences. They got to know their traditions, cultural differences, the weather, the language, their way of living…. Later on, the students from Ange had the opportunity to know and enjoy our culture and traditions for the ten days that they stayed here.
“Ekinez ikasi” We have been working for some years now with the students with special educational needs in a new project of inclusive education. The goal that we pursued with it was double. On the one hand, we wanted an improvement in their curricula and, on the other hand, the real inclusion in the school. The project started with a school vegetable garden and now we have a cooking class in which, making some recipes we, work to improve their curricula using a methodology based in the emotional learning.
